Lottery giving the game as the prize

I think it's a terrific idea to award the premium edition of the game to someone as a lottery prize.

However I feel like Turbine not having a suitable alternate prize for those who already own it is , effectively, thumbing their nose at their loyal customers. IMHO An interesting way of acknowledging their most pro-active customers.

If you already have the preorder, you do not have to enter. You could win it and give it to a friend, but there's no reason Turbine would need to offer an alternate prize in a drawing such as this. They're not giving away a physical item, they're giving away a digital product.

Eh, I figure they'll either refund my pre-order (unlikely) or else I can give it away - most likely to one of my kids who plays LOTRO sometimes. Either way, I won't be complaining if I were to win .

You will be receiving a key code. You could sell it. Give it away. Or use it.

    The price of ignorance

Actually, the original poster does have a point. Anyone who hasn't already bought helm's yet, is now DIScouraged from purchasing it. Wait and see how many of these giveaway lotteries are going to be run first. Only when all hope of that is gone - and/or Nov 18th arrives, will you shell out your hard-earned. Having already bought helms myself, I am choosing not to enter these lotteries ( which is a little frustrating, they are the only ones running for long enough for me to catch them ) in an effort to encourage the prize to find a better home.

LOL... EVERYTHING they give away is digital... and has to do with the game... your point eludes me. Anyway, I know I can give it away... that's really not the point .... is it?

I've already purchased HD I figure IF I did win I'd create some sort of kinship contest to give it away. It's highly unlikely that I will win but it doesn't hurt to do something for someone else every now and then. It's not too say I'm not a bit bummed to not win it for myself but hey at least they are giving it away. Not many games will do that. Maybe they will offer I dunno the legendary edition before we get the launch. Good luck everyone <3

Not everything Turbine does is some vicious attempt to screw over their "loyal playerbase". They could just be trying to do something nice for the community, giving players who can't afford the expansion a chance to win it instead. Personally I've entered daily for exactly that reason - to try and help a friend who can't afford it right now. If the lotteries end before the deadline without a win I'll still probably buy it for her, but why not try the free route first?

People need to stop looking for insult when there isn't one. Otherwise, this is a fantastic community, just very easily offended by Turbine/WB.

Quite the opposite. A good number of our players have commented on purchasing HD and then having to wait to purchase for a spouse, child, significant other, etc. that this is a perfect reward for those who have pre-purchased one copy and are waiting for funds to free up for the next. The majority here have even expressed this as a great way for someone who has already purchased to be a kind of "hero" to their kinship by providing the code for a give away, surprising a friend in game with a free copy of the expansion or any number of acts of kindness that can be done with the spare code.

As someone who pre-ordered Helm's Deep, I don't have any problem with the lottery. I entered both, and, should I win, I will gift the code to a kinnie or create an in-game contest.

Yes, it is always nice to get free stuff, but I personally have no issue supporting this game with real money, given the many hours of enjoyment I get out of it for a fraction of the price I pay on other pastimes.

I couldn't agree more Bel. No problem supporting the game with $, and I do, often. Just a random thought when I saw the current lottery that, even though I supported Turbine with $120 (wife too) of my $ for 60 days interest free, I thought they could reciprocate in kind.

Sadly, since the recent financial strain on my family has doubled and I'm the only source of income in my house hold. I will not be able to pre-order HD. These little giveaways Turbine is hosting are the only way I can get the game. That or wait for my TP to build up... that could take awhile.

Thanks for the opportunity at least Turbine.

This is me in a nutshell. Going through tough times right now and this lottery is a good thing.

"Winner's will be notified via an in-game e-mail".

A bit of clarification needed here, I'm assuming this means an actual e-mail sent to the address we used to create our Turbine/Lotro account, or an in-game mail waiting for us when we log on. Surely it wouldn't be a case of having to log-in with the winning character and having to wait on a GM to receive the code via a PM?

From what it says, they'll be sending the winning code to the character that won. Presumably, we'll be able to see which character (if any) won under the Lotteries page, then log into that character and pick up the winning code from his or her in-game mail. Seems a bit strange (and perhaps rather annoying if anyone "wins" on a deleted character that's still in the list), but for most people it shouldn't be a problem to do.

I enrolled on the previous helms deep lotery by accident & i was just concerned if i resulted winner after i already bought the expansion if i can give that new code to a friend in need that may not be able to buy it. I didn't won the lottery but im so glad that this is possible.

I refrained from the first lottery as I thought it would be horrible to win having already bought HD. Now, thanks to this thread, I've entered in the new one knowing that is a code that I can gift to others. Very happy to know this. Even if it wasn't giftable, I have no problems with lotteries that benefit different folks on different occasions.

I am just glad Turbine provides the chance to win an expansion through the lottery, they don't have too. Okay I can admit there is always 'buyers remorse' when someone else receives the same product as you purchased, for LESS. But it happens all time!

Should I feel slighted that Turbine gives away games on Twitter & Facebook and I have no account on either? No, it's all their method of marketing to as many people as possible. I'll bet Turbine gives away close to 100 HD games of various editions through promotional giveaways - I have no real idea, but it's a whole lot more than a few dozen IMHO. That doesn't mean the odds of winning one are very high though.

How about a follow up lottery awarding this:

Why is it this lottery says I have no eligible characters? I have lots of characters in the level range.
Freeps: Venusia (Guardian), Silya (RK), Dwayr (Champion), Nissys (Captain), Filodon (Burgler), Tyveil (Lore-master)
Creeps: Venusiel (R7 Weaver), Tyveilakh (R5 Warleader)

Check if it's the right server. The lottery is listed for each server.

...some of us are also dismayed at the direction of the game and, while loyal subscribers (not lifetime, mind you, but still paying), don't plan on buying right now. A premium win would feel like a just reward for the money some have already spent to get the game to this point. I like the idea. I wish I had more eligible characters! (Only need to win once...per paid account, of course).

Well, good-luck to anyone who entered, I'll probably be disappointed when I wake up tommorow (finger's crossed though)
