Why not allow us to use the skirmish traits to determine our heralds appearance?

I'd rather not have heralds mixed up in skirmish traits. It could work, but I would rather have the more direct version like the LM pet appearances.

Eh, the skirmish appearance traits (and appearnce trairs only) offer customizability that cannot be matched with the current system, and also gives us elf and hobbit heralds, something which has been asked for for a very long time.

There's enough differences between how skirmish soldiers and player pets function to make using the Skirmish appearance system require a hefty investment of time.

Eh well, it would be cool, but I can definitely see why that wouldn't happen outside of a major update.

    RockX,

I really love what you have done with the captain class, thanks for all your hard work. This proposed change for the armaments is also a very welcome upgrade to the captain class, in my opinion. I do have one question for you about the banners, however. I am getting used to targeting mobs when dropping the banners. When we drop the banner on a mob, and the square appears, I am assuming it is within that square that the effects take place (i.e. the +damage, -power cost, or +mitigation)? If that is the case, is there any way we can make them plant at our feet instead of at the mobs coordinates? For example, I run with a hunter and when I target the mob and drop the banner, the hunter is outside the range of the buff (the outlined box on the ground). If the banner dropped at our current location, we could better control where the effect took place.

Thanks again for all the hard work you are putting into the class!

I believe we are getting ground targeting soon. You might not be able to drop them at your feet but you can control where they drop.

Pies, much much better than banners (i really don't care, but it would be cool ). When we can have dorfs and men, why not hobbits?

Very nice. Is there a forum post or dev diary that talks about how this ground targeting will work?

    Thanks

Will there be an upgrade to oathbreaker heralds because to me they are stronger than human heralds?

IIRC the differences in potency came from the armaments. There were some modifiers on them to make the oathbreakers more potent. Now they should simply be a cosmetic option, instead of the best.

to me, this reads like the +armor bonus is going away? will they still be tailor crafted? will crit-crafted matter at all? as it is now, a lvl 90 crit-crafted armament is better than the 85 Oathbreker. armor wise.

In fact, if you are doing talisman type, please add captain appearances to factions throughout middle earth requiring rep to get (just like thorins rep one), it would be a wonderful way to help us customize our Captains. And yes, I've filed this under suggestions in the past: Here https://forums-old.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?p=6729400
Seconded! My Captain of Rohan needs a Rohirric herald.

I like the reputation-gated idea for herald appearance. Brilliant in its simplicity, and very appealing.

Wouldn't the simplest solution be to just put the stats currently on our banners onto the armaments instead? Although I guess that would result in there being a HUGE amount of outputs in all the armament recipes unless each appearance was assigned specific stats which would also be undesirable.

That's why I'd like to use the skirmish system appearance traits instead of going with an amulet based system.

Animals are simplistic enough with their skins that you don't need as many permutations as you do with humanoid sidekicks, thus the medallions work just fine there.

This is ESPECIALLY true when you have a game that is as cosmetically focused as LotRO is. Using the skirmish system appearance traits, there's a significantly higher moneteziation possibility here, since they can sell stuff not only to the captains, but also to everyone else, which means we're more likely to get more herald appearances faster.
