  1. [Forums] Make posts compatible with Google Translate

I know this may be a bit of a fringe thing, but perhaps it wouldn't be too difficult to implement.

When I feed LOTRO forum pages into Google Translate, they come up blank. This is a real shame, because there is a long history of German and French players coming to English-speaking servers for events, and vice versa. The Player Events forum is shared, so there are posts in multiple languages. There's no easy way to get a translation.

    Here is an example:
    http://translate.google.com/translat...er-Wochenblatt

It would be awesome if the LOTRO forum posts didn't mind being displayed in an external frame/window, so that Google Translate could do its wonderful work.

The link seemed to work for me.

Have you tried it in a different browser? Could be some sort of Javascript incompatibility or something.

It does not work in my version of Firefox. I use:
    http://translate.google.com/
paste in the text of the post.

It works fine. If you are having trouble, drop the s off the URL type and make the url http:// instead of https:// then it should work.

tested both in IE and Firefox. http works, https doesn't.

When using forums.lotro.com, both browsers select https automatically, even when entering http manually - so every link copied will end up with https.
If the link is copied without https:// google translate will automatically assume http:// and it will work.

In order for me to get it to work. I fail once because of the https. I have find the S and manually remove it.

I am not sure which is faster. My way - which is to copy and paste the text into a Google translator browser window. Or go thru the hassle of manually editing the URL.

It is too bad that https pages are not supported. I have no idea if this is a Firefox or a Google issue.

I guess it is a double issue.
Firefox defaults to https if available. This can be considered as an "issue" or a "feature". The reason behind this behaviour is to to protect users by using encrypted communication rather than unencrypted one. This is on one hand patronizing, on the other hand maybe a good idea as many users are not aware of https and its advantages.

Google translate on the other hand is not translating https content as you would not want to send encrypted content to google via a public channel anyway (according to google representative postings). It seems there are some workarounds and even a Firefox plugin, but I guess removing the "s" or the "https://" is the easiest solution.
