Pando Media Booster potentially hijacked by malware

According to a thread on Reddit, the now-defunct Pando Media Booster software is pushing out updates containing malware. If you have this installed on your system from the days when LOTRO used to use Pando, you might want to consider uninstalling it (I still had it on my system!), since LOTRO no longer uses Pando.

    Switch to steam.

I thought LOTRO still used PANDO. The steam client doesn't.

As far as I know Pando has become Reloaded Technologies, which is still being used by LOTRO.

    LOTRO uses Happy Cloud now.
If you give away gold bars, someone will complain they're too heavy.

For the steaming downloader, but if you choose the regular one you still get Pando.

Hum. Really? I was under the impression that they'd phased Pando out completely. Oh well. I've had it removed from my computer for years anyway.

We keep getting forcibly interrupted with Pando requests for an update. I tried removing Pando from my PC and I keep getting
these interruptions for updates and I keep saying NO. My wife's PC has the same probelm but I haven't deleted her Pando yet.
I have run a scan with our Avast virus removal to no avail.
How can we get rid of this nuisance software that interrupts the game or anything else we are doing?

It interrupts us about once every half-hour or so demanding an answer to whether we want to update Pando media Booster or not?
We keep saying no of course because the first time my Avast said there could be a virus or something bad with the update!

Did you go into control panel and install un install?? to Uninstall it. Or did you just try and toss it in the trash. Tossing it does not work and pretty much screws you because uninstall will often not work if you tried tossing it.

I used the Control Panel and told it to "Uninstall" it.

There should be a way on your PC to deny Pando Media Booster access to the internet. There should be a way to deny the program the ability to run on your PC. There should to prevent any pop ups asking for permission to run. These options will depend on your OS, firewall, router and or anti virus programs.

Once you have successfully downloaded and installed LOTRO, there is no reason to keep pando active, or even installed. The game will update using its own launcher. You can safely remove pando without impacting your ability to play or patch LOTRO.
