Can anyone confirm whether or not the increased rates are active? I know there seemed to be late start last time.

We just had one it seems a couple of weeks or so ago. I got more than 20 boxes over 4 characters and 2 keys. The boxes got dumped because I will not buy keys from the store nor from the gougers on the AH.![]()

By "gougers", I assume you mean people selling things for their normal market price. I understand that the price may be out of your range, likely because it's the same keys that open boxes for rich L95 players and poor L10 players and everyone in-between, but let's not resort to spouting nonsense because of an inability to grasp simple economic concepts.

The big question is, is there an increased drop rate of keys along with the additional chests? If this is just a way to milk more TP by loading us up with chests without a lot of keys to open them, then forget it. I will never buy keys on the store.
Gawd Ive become cynical about this game lol...
I'm guessing you missed this week's free coupon item.

There will always be more boxes than keys in the game. The system wasn't added to make players happy, it was to make them money. They're filled mostly with stuff you buy from the store, so it's basically advertising. And when you get a higher tier stat tome, of course some people are going to be persuaded to hit the store and buy previous tiers.
Just open boxes you can with the keys that have dropped for you, and destroy the extra boxes or sell them to a player less opposed to feeding the lottery-runners.

I hope you're joking. You have to know that a sample size that small during a time of increased drop rate for both is nowhere near representative of the actual drop rate.
Conversely, I've been boxing to collect rep items and powerlevel some f2p characters lately. I don't deal with the AH, so I just open what boxes I get with the keys I have drop.
I have looted and used up 50 keys, and I still have over 200 lootboxes in storage (over 250 total drops).
Mine is anecdotal, too, of course. But a 5:1 ratio over 300 drops is a little more likely to be accurate, or closer to it, than trying to judge from 8 drops.

While I stopped tracking the totals for all the events combined a long time ago. The drop rate is nearer 1:1 with the more time you put in. I'm boxing as well. Usually I have 4 or 5 boxes left unopened after each event and taking into account the 10% on a key return from each opened box.
Maybe keys are just one of the things my characters have luck with. They certainly dont have it with anything else.

Well if it's variable player-to-player and you know someone who gets many, many more keys than boxes, send them to me. I'm too frugal to destroy them and too lazy to put them on the AH (and don't want to encourage spending real money for the sturdy key lottery), so storing them is already becoming cumbersome.

ive played lotro for over a year and i have like 8-9 keys dropped but literally only 3-4 lootboxes at best.

Consider also, grinding low level mobs for keys, and tossing boxes that aren't in a level range that has anything you want.

Anyone like to share their super secret spots to get them?
I put down around a hundred elites (Nar's peak repeatables - Giants and Gwibers) and 200 Orc's (a camp by floodwend) last night. Got loads of Legendary third, quite a few scroll cases, no keys or loot boxes.
Well, for starters, you're doing it wrong by focusing on killing elites. IF the mob can drop loot at all. It has the exact same chance to drop it as any other mob that drops loot.
Sig, Elite, etc, doesnt matter. Level doesn't matter. I've gotten keys and boxes in the introduction. What matters: If you're after boxes, the level of the box is determined by the level of the mob
Boxes:Find where you can kill as many mobs as possible quickly in that level range. (IE killing L90 mobs rapidly, instead of focusing on L95 mobs, etc)
Keys: Find someplace where you can get a good loop going with a fast spawn rate (Sarnur is a popular choice.)
OR
Work on cleaning up deeds and take what you get while you're at it =)

It's why I moved to Floodwend. The Orc camps are 76-78 there, green and teal but still in the Riddermark level. It's where I got all the Legendary and scrolls.
Loot Boxes were never good to me. To put it in to perspective, I have 5 characters that are Angmar era, 2 that are Moria era. We got a 3 key gift box from the 3 year? I had 21, I still have 12 of those.
I believe that instances have a slightly-increased drop rate as well - I've especially noticed this with GB instances. This is also anecdotal, of course, but on the last weekend like this, I did a Sammy run with 3 others - I got 2 keys, someone else got 1 key, and someone else got a lootbox (lvl 90). (And there was one unlucky person who didn't get anything.) I don't know if it actually stacks with the increased drop weekend, but I'm probably going to run some instances and see what happens.
As someone with 5 different accounts on the bounders statue, mostly from instance farming, (I suspect that should lend some credence to my anecdotal evidence) I felt like I had a pretty good idea what the actual drop rate for the bags was. During that time, I didn't feel like we saw a higher rate of keys than from normal landscape, but best of luck! Sadly, given how low the base rate for keys and boxes is, there was no way I could log that level of data to get a good idea what the trend was. (I probably killed 10s of thousands of mobs for that event.)
Personally, if I'm not looking for something mindless to do while I've got something else going in the background, I prefer to clear out my deed log during these loobox weekends.

If you post in GLFF looking for a key you can usually get one for considerably cheaper than AH prices. For example, if the running AH price is 15g, people in GLFF will generally be selling for 10-12g.
I too have found many more keys than boxes. I think it's just a matter of killing lots and lots of stuff. The more loot you get from any mob of any difficulty level, the more chance for a box or key. Also, I don't find a massive difference in loot quality between box levels, so I tend to open anything from say, level 40 or 50 and up, and I get just as much great stuff as I do opening up the top tier boxes. No need to waste tons of gold on those when lower level boxes will net just as much good stuff (and junk, as the case may be).
On that note, for a fun exercise, what's the worst lootbox reward you've ever gotten? For me it was a tattered hat and 5 legendary fragments. From a Eorlingas box. No joke.
What about you?
