    Infinite Crisis RIP

    https://www.infinitecrisis.com/en/ne...gust-14th-2015

    And there you have it.

    Anyone surprised?

The only good news about this...maybe (just maybe) Turbine will refocus all their resources on LOTRO (y'know..the game that pretty much funded Infinite Crisis).

This is not good for this game. Very not good. When a body part gets septic you hope cutting it off will keep the necrosis from spreading. Sometimes it doesn't work.

Sig looked hideous so I sent it to its room. It can come back and
show off after it has thought about what it did.

Hmm, good point. Definitely not a good day for Turbine.

Aw, shucks. No way I would play an MOBA with superheroes,
but I was hoping this one would succeed and bring in a lot of
money for Turbine. Sic transit gloria mundi.

TBH I thought the only reason Turbine was updating their hardware was to reduce the lag in IC - crippling for a MOBA. Is this still now planned?
Remember there's always the mobile games in development to bleed money into. I still don't hold much hope for increased resources being spent on Lotro.

Does Turbine *have* another game in development?
    Does anybody know?

I could have sworn I heard some crazy talk about the developing a Game of Thrones mobile game (cringe)

I'm hoping that they (finally) learn from past mistakes and focus on the game that is actually paying their rent, etc. (LOTRO)

Well.. considering Rowan moved to new project, and Turbine has been looking for mobile developers.. it's very likely they have a mobile game in development.

Well, that sucks, hopefully LotRO doesn't get taken out by the splash damage from IC going kaput.

But really, the MOBA market is oversaturated at the moment, so when coupled with steam stats that look like this (http://steamcharts.com/app/345520), this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

Its hardly surprising, seeing as this was the only place I ever saw the game mentioned, and that was prior to release.

Unfortunately with the development focus on mobiles, I'd look to more layoffs at Turbine - not everyone at IC would be able to be accommodated elsewhere. Plus Turbine may not want to lose some of the talent at IC, meaning staff elsewhere (in particular Lotro and DDO) may lose out to incoming IC staff. Sad times for all the staff involved in the uncertain near future.

Yes sir, that looks like the newest restaurant in town when the market has overbuilt and the customers have changed their tastes or their budget is tight.

One takeaway that I have from this is that WB has no qualms cutting losses when the actual return isn't and doesn't look like it can match the IRR goal. That says, to me, that LoTRO is currently profitable enough, today. Tomorrow, who knows?

In my opinion, very smart to shut this game down now. I would say I feel bad for the staff, but they probably knew a long time ago during their years long beta that it wasn't going to be a successful game.

I am sorry for the staff involved, but somehow I thought this won't turn out well when infinite crisis (the name itself is a mission statement) was announced.

Now if only I can stop thinking about how many broken features could have been repaired in LotRO with all these resources ..

I think this speaks well about LotRO's value to Turbine, an 8 year old game still getting a steady stream of updates. Whereas this completely new game was developed, launched, and is being shut down only 4 months after launch. I had the impression it was supposed to be their new big money-maker.

It's sad to see any game fail, but it was an absolute and utter flop, pretty much nobody was playing it. I don't think it's been dropped because of massive money issues, just because the game was a failure.

Bad news, very bad. Infinite Crisis doing well would've meant expanding staff, translating into some much-needed spillover attention to Lotro. Do not be surprised if some Turbine devs split their time between the two games, and keeping IC alive meant keeping some of them working on Lotro too. Now there will be even less staff, and less resources.

The remaining Turbine resources (including lotro store revenue) are getting pooled into mobile/tablet game development. Just look at all the active job opening with Turbine, they are all in mobile development.

I'm guessing the phone closures this week at Turbine customer service mean a team meeting where much of the future will be decided. My sincere condolences for those who are being let go. Terrible news for Lotro.

Unfortunately in any part of life, not everything can work out the way we would like. With that said, the closure of Infinite Crisis is not going to have any impact on the plans we have for LOTRO as they are two separate franchises. We are still moving forward with our hardware upgrade and datacenter move, as well as all the content and features we have planned.
