Warning! Empty your house before you transfer!!!!!

Hey I just wanted to let you all know of a nasty little bug I found when transferring. I had 9 characters on Arkenstone and 12 characters on Landroval. I moved two characters from Arkenstone to Landroval, including the character that owned my house on Arkenstone. I was under the impression that all decorations and all items in my housing chest would merge with my housing items on landroval since I was moving the house owner. When I went to check I could not find my items at the escrow broker or in my housing chest on Landroval. I then switched to Arkenstone and low and behold all my lost items were in the Escrow on Arkenstone... bad news is most of it now says "Bound to Unknown Player". I am wondering how to fix this as I don't want to move my shared storage or Wardrobe .... I'm not sure if I should transfer back? Do you guys recommend making a support ticket out? Anyways I wanted to let you all know. My fiance is having the same problem, though he has not checked the Arkenstone Escrow yet.

This is not based on experience, but based on beta reports.

If the items are moved to the new server, the owner should be able to extract them. This is also the reason for the move order, kin leaders first, house owners second, shared account next, then remaining characters.

However if you are never going to move shared stuff to the new server, then those items are pseudo-lost. You may transfer back, and the items should recognize their associated characters then, extract them, then transfer anew.

However be careful not to transfer shared stuff, as there's a two week prohibition against returning shared stuff to a server it came from.

    This make sense?

PS: Please do file a /bug report so they know what happened and can communicate proper procedures to players for future.

Imma disagree with RJ for a sec. While you may be able to reclaim those items if you move back, I'm thinking that may not be the case. The re move should pair up your char ID but the game may think that number is new to that server, having severed ties with it. I don't know if that is the case. I think /bug would be more effective as I don't think GM's are going to be able to transfer stuff individually. If you did not select the transfer all check box nothing but what you have in your personal vault and inventory should move with you. The only way to get housing items to follow is to check that box. All or Nothing.

Question: Do your Ark char have permission still to do housing stuff?

This is interesting. I took one of my storage mules
out to the house recently (they mostly hang out by
the Vault-keeper in the housing instance) and noted
that he has enough room in his packs to store all the
housing items when he transfers. Even the TWO
statues of Candaith; can't quite figure out how those
got there. I mean, I love Candaith like a brother,
    but two of him???

(And if the items turn out to be bound to my main, I
can shuffle non-bound things around till she has room
    for all the furniture anyway.)

I just went and read the faq on transfers concerning this - I was thinking there would be some kind of caveat about transferring a house owner to a world where you already own a house. It does actually say that doing so will be fine and all your stuff will transfer with you and if not enough room in the current house go to escrow.

So do put in a bug report so Turbine can fix their FAQ or fix this issue. If you had posted asking advice yesterday I'd have said for sure empty your house before moving and if you were leaving toons behind have one of them buy a house before you moved the house owner.

Sorry this happened to you. But it does illustrate why Turbine is starting transfers with transfers among what will be the remaining worlds. If bugs and problems pop up like this that will require hands on time from a programmer to make right it is best to have as few cases as possible.

I would hold off on doing anything. Don't move your toon back to the world of origin. Don't move stuff out of escrow with alts. Put in a ticket explaining what happened and see if a turbine employee can't just reach in and fix the situation. The less actions you take to cloud the issue the better.

Housing and shared storage are considered account items not character, so you as a player have two option here:

    1. You can move your character back and you should be able to reclaim your items.
    2. Transfer your actual account and not just the characters. If you transfer the account you then should see your items on the correct server.

    Just to be sure..
If I just want to move all my freep toons from server A to server B(where I don't have any house) while I wan't to spread some of my creep toons, will I have to do anything or should this go smoothly? (Unless something unexpected would happend ofc).

What complication do you have that you are checking here?

If in a kin, kin leader goes first.

If house, home owner goes before others.

Move shared storage (any currency will no longer be available to characters on original server).

    Then move remaining characters.

Note characters you don't move will not have access to shared currency that was sent to the new server.

The issue in the original post is the person didn't want shared storage to go, not realizing bound stuff would end up in escrow, or the order, they moved stuff out of order/skipped a step, leaving stuff behind. It's not a big deal, they just transfer back, get it out of escrow, transfer over and done. None of that applies to you apparently.

The simple solution would have been to return bound items before moving for them. But that might be more work than simply transferring back and forth. However in the future, when transfers are actually open for use rather than testing, there might be a limit to how many transfers one may do freely (in lieu of a hard date deadline), that decision hasn't been made yet.

Do you mean do my moved characters have access to my home on Landroval? Yes. If you mean do the characters I have left on Arkenstone have access to my old house then, no, but this I expected.

@Frelorn I will definitely do #1, thanks for the reply. Thanks for the suggestions and the help! This is what led me to think bound items would follow my house owner to the new server:

    From: https://www.lotro.com/en/game/articles/world-transfers

    "Housing Transfer

When transferring a character who owns a house on a world, the belongings and the history of the ownership of that house will go with that character to its new world. This means storage capacity, Upkeep Prepayments, Ownership time and Grace period time will all be remembered and applied to the house you might purchase on your destination world. When you log into the new world with your Home owner, you will find an email that will inform you of your previous address and will contain an attachment of currency equal to the purchase cost of the house. All of your deco is now in Escrow Housing storage, and character bound items are returned to the appropriate characters. If you already own a house on the destination world the upkeep, storage capacity and items will be granted to the existing house on the account."
    Emphasis added.

I have read the FAQ site on turbine.com since transfering and that lays out a little better that items would not transfer (though I still find it could be made a little clearer.) Is the information above is incorrect? If so can the devs to fix it or to clarify that it will keep it in the Escrow on the old server?

And just to clarify my situation, I moved my house - owner + 1 other character. I had 85 items between my house chest, escrow and kinhouse (I realize why I lost the kinhouse items not worried about those). Of these 85 more than half were bound cosmetic items, bound housing decorations, and bound armour that were bound to the same house owner. These did not (and apparently are not supposed to?) transfer with the house owner to the new world despite what the paragraph above says. I just wanted other players to be aware that they either need to empty their house or transfer shared storage even if they move the house owner. I know I have seen reports of similar problems and my fiance (our kinleader) had the same problem, and was led to the same conclusion I was from the above page. I did bug it. I also sent a support ticket, but haven't received a conformation of this yet. If I can move back and reclaim my stuff though I'm not concerned, but I will reply to the bug ticket with the quote above in case they want to clarify it more. Thanks all for the help!

I'm certain you know what you say is a fact, and what you are saying is moving a toon that owns a house, does not move the house. That to move the house you have to chose an option (which I assume appears at some point in the transfer process) to move your account. However this is not how I read your FAQ which says:

    "Housing Transfer

To me this states that in order to move my house all I need to do is move the toon that owns the house. You are saying to move the house we need chose an option to move the account - the faq is clearly saying "When transferring a character who owns a house..."

^^ That's why I hope the devs will change the wording on that paragraph!

Anyways I tried the first option Frelorn suggested and had no troubles getting my stuff back! Everything rebound to the proper character and I was able to move back and forth within a matter of minutes. I decided to leave 5 items on Arkenstone because I simply had no space. Now I just have to figure out where to put all my newly acquired housing items and outfits on Landroval XD

Yeah, please verify if the official Housing Transfer information is no longer fully correct.

I read Frelorn's statement as housing storage items are considered account-based. The house and house info (like storage space) are still linked to the house owner? Some clarification is needed IMO, ta.

Also wondering, with kin houses - are the current kin leaders considered the kin house owner? or the original purchaser (which may no longer be part of the kin or exist on the server)? TIA.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding this, but does this mean when on the new server, we'll have to pay again to open the shared vault storage, or expand housing storage?

I'm thinking what is going on here is a combination of things tied to the earlier quote about a toon who owns a house and this one.

    "Shared Items Transfer

This new checkbox in the World Transfer interface will allow the transfer of all account level items that are shared between your characters on a world from one world to another. These items include the following:

o Account Shared Currency (Mithril Coins & Skirmish )
    o Shared Storage
    o Housing Storage
    o Wardrobe
    o Destiny

The Shared Items Transfer will always be a free service and will be available even if you have moved all characters off of a world, just in case you moved a character and left some account level items behind."

I'm thinking in order for the house and its bought storage to transfer you need to chose both to move the owner of the house and to mark the checkbox to move all account items. Meaning you can't break out the house and its storage but leave the wallet and marks behind or move the house and storage to one world with the house owner and the wallet to another world.

Doing both of these will move the house with the owner. But this is just a surmise.

I have to agree at this point clarification is needed especially concerning your question about kin houses. Though I imagine the kin house is tied to the kin leader/kin name controlled by the kin leader, not the person that bought it

I'm a little confused over storage chests. I bought a deluxe house way back and ended up with 2 chests. After a previous housing revamp these 2 combined into one chest with 60 slots. But now I lose that house and have to buy one on a new server (I understand that the gold for actual house purchase is reimbursed).

So does this mean I lose my 60 slots with no reimbursement and I'll start off with bare minimum again?

As I understand it - and hypothesized above. If you move the toon that owns the house at the same time as checking the option to move account items you will have the amount of shared storage you currently owner had on transfer. That is when buying a new house on your new server you will get your 60 slots back. If you simply move the toon that owns the house but not account storage you will on buying a new house only have the 15 slots or what ever now comes with a house and have to buy the extra ones again.

I am not sure when it comes to housing storage (the gold based, I am fairly certain mithril based you keep), but for shared vault storage, no. Shared vault storage is account-wide across all servers. You have the same amount of slots on every server.

Ok, thanks! That's good. I can endure the repurchase of housing slots, but having to re-buy shared vault storage would be annoying.

This is worrisome to me, because I have characters on Imladris and was contemplating moving them to Landroval, where I already have a main with a house. She has her 60 storage spaces, as does my Imladris main. If I move my Imladris character to Landroval, does that mean the Landroval house gets 120 spaces? I created a F2P house mule so that I could give the Imladris character a house as well and I understand that I would have to buy storage separately for that house since that is a different account, but I am wondering how this is going to work, since technically, beyond that 60 you're paying MC for slots. So my question is-do I get to keep my 60 slots that I bought on Imladris or am I going to have to give up on the idea of moving to Landroval at all, if I don't want to lose what I've already purchased?

I'm struggling to get my head around this. I thought my transfer would be simple due to owning all the items in my house, but I have a question about ownership.

On Eldar my house is owned by Lilka, and on Laurelin by a placeholder character called, for argument's sake, Dilbert. I had Dilbert buy my desired house but I haven't bought any space expansions. My Eldar house has all the space expansions.

When I transfer, I thought Lilka would just be houseless, but instead I see that my Eldar house info - payments, for example - will merge with the Laurelin house. So Dilbert will remain the owner? How can I take ownership off Dilbert and give it to Lilka? Will the items be in Lilka's escrow or Dilbert's, or shared? (I don't think I've ever even used escrow.) If the payment and history goes to Dilbert but I delete Dilbert and have Lilka buy a fresh house, she'll lose all the purchased bonuses, right? Should I delete Dilbert now and have Lilka buy the house fresh on arrival?

Yes, Dilbert would remain owner, with extended maintenance applied from the other world, and more storage capacity.

You can't simply take ownership from Dilbert and give it to Lilka. You'd have to abandon the house.

Escrow is shared, but bound items may only be removed by the character they are bound to, so if there are bound items, you want them to go to the same server as the character for them not to be lost. Note also unbound decoration items will be placed in the first/main chest/tab, so it can help organization to clear that in expectation of stuff going in there.

I've never deleted a homeowner, sorry, I don't know the ramifications of that. Lotro-wiki has this line, "The upgrades for personal houses are specific to account and server. Once purchased, they remain available should the owner buy another house." Since houses are by account, it sounds like upgrades would be maintained.
