Why is the Halloween advertisement STILL up?

This is an embarrassment. I convinced 3 family members to start playing LOTRO this past year. I did my best to sell it to them as a good game in the hands of active, attentive developers. But it's hard to explain dumb things like why nobody bothered to take down the 4-month out-of-date Halloween advertisement.

Get your act together. Stuff like this makes a terrible impression on new players.

That is not the currently-active advertisement. Some players are having an issue with getting updated splash screens and marketing screens.

They've had 4 months to figure this out and fix it. Pardon me if I have no sympathy.

The startup screens never seem to ever be updated often. Common guys, October is long gone. Or maybe leave it up. It will be October before you know it.

I saw a post on how to delete a folder that would force it to update the splash screens, but unfortunately my folder structure for LotRO is not the same. Seems I have a Steam install still. A whole new issue, not sure how to change that. Going to scrounge around in there and see if I can find something similar. Can't find the forum post on what to clear to refresh splash screen so I could link it here but hopefully anyone wanting to change the screen could search and find it themselves?

I'm tired of Halloween :-( Outside of customers clearing/deleting files themselves, isn't there someway to force the updater or launcher to look for a particular file name? Something nothing like the old splash screen images then from that day forward use the new name for splash screen? Or just simply increment the filenames, 1,2,3 whatever/however lol! I know that takes someone updating it once a month or two but geez, I'll come do it for free! :-)

I'd rather see the region spotlight: Enedwaith or Class spotlight: Guardian over this...

I followed the instructions that told how to remove them so they would download again a few weeks ago.

I ended up with one "join the community" screen and all the rest are the exact same ad for the Mordor expansion.

Not using Steam but also seeing Halloween adverts often. The other splash screen I've been getting a lot is Update 15 for Central Gondor (!) and Mordor expansion which is at least fresh.

Haven't seen region or class spotlights in more than a year (and are there even other class splash screens other than warden, guardian, and (very rarely) runekeeper?)

Is there some kind of plugin that actually shuffles between some obsolete but cool splash screens, like from previous epic quests or zones? That would have a historical appeal instead of being just obsolete seasonal events.

I have also had this issue. though it's not difficult to change our own splash screens manually, I have avoided doing that on purpose because i keep track of exactly how long this splash screen has been up for :P

So seeing as I'm getting the Bonus Points until January 1st add would US consumer law mean I'd have a case for the extra points if I bought some this year?

No, I'm not, but other's might be happy to.

PS. A retailer with dodgy price tag couldn't get a away with telling me not to look at the tag or throw the tag away myself to avoid problems honouring the price stated.

It speaks volumes about the complacency of the dev team.

As if they were saying: "We don't pay any attention to this game. We just sit back and collect the money while it runs on automatic."

It also suggests that none of them play their own game. If they played their own game, you'd think someone would have noticed the out-of-date Halloween advertisement and taken it down. If they're not playing their own game, they probably don't know what makes it fun and consequently don't know how to create fun content for the game. That's incredibly discouraging to a new player who's trying to decide whether or not to invest himself in the game.

Those are the two I get, on both desktops. They are completely different computers in all aspects except for the install type (standard, not Steam) and the route they reach SSG's servers.

Not been an issue for me. :-) Just the forum post where someone gave a folder to find and delete to force splash screens to re-dnload, I did not have the same folder structure.

I don't log in thru steam, just game is still there in their folder it seems. If it's not needed to log in, I'd like to know how to change that, without having to reinstall if possible. For now, it works, i'm using it :-)

The files are in [folder that contains Turbineinvoker.exe]\raw\en\logo (change en to fr or de for French or German). They are named lotro_generic_teleport_screen_ 01.jpg through lotro_generic_teleport_screen_ 10.jpg and can be deleted to force a reload of the latest versions the next time you run.

To move the LOTRO install out from under Steam folder structure, you just need to drag it elsewhere and edit your shortcut. The [folder that contains Turbineinvoker.exe] above is the root folder for the LOTRO install.

    1. Move [folder that contains Turbineinvoker.exe] to your new location. For example, I use C:\games for my game installs.
    2. Run [folder that contains Turbineinvoker.exe]\TurbineRegisterGDF.exe to (re)set the registry. (This might not be needed, but doesn't hurt.)
    3. Edit the properties for your LOTRO shortcut to point to the new folder location for TurbineInvoker.exe
    4. Test

The above instructions also work for copying LOTRO to a new or second computer.

I removed everything in the directory on Feb 11th. All I have is Mordor and Join the LOTRO Community jpegs now. Client downloaded with Steam back in 2015.

It's like the Super Bowl. Some people download Lotro to watch the commercials...other people enjoy the game...

I especially like the loading screen that Julia Roberts, Patrick Stewart, and Barbara Streisand tell us to get involved in the Community. Still haven't figured out that fourth guy.

I will happily take my time doing things in LotRO...
So long as SSG is being lazy about updating things, I will find plenty of other outlets for my money.

I can wait on my free 500 points per month.
Unless SSG has the same plan for LotRO as it did for Landmark......

thank you! with permission, Im copying your succinct how-to-guide to my kin's discord server.
I'll have to modify it to fit MacOS though. like if you run steam on mac, i dont think macos has a registry and it certainly doesn't have exe's - instead they're .app's
