    Archet landscape changes.

In previous incarnations, Archet was cut off from the rest of Bree by high, impassable cliffs; with an invisible wall at the top, to stop you falling in from outside.

This all went, and invisible barriers stopped you from getting out (not sure about in).

Now the barriers seem to be down - - however I was using a high level character; is there anyone IN Archet, or who has just left who could confirm they were kept back from wandering into Chetwood or the East Bree Fields without going through Coombe??

The barriers (invisible walls) are level dependant as far as I know and are just intended to keep people in who haven't finished the Intro Quests. Once you're over a certain level they just disappear.

There seem to be a number of new pathways that didnt exist last time I looked, I wandered into the Barrowdowns today, not using any of the entrances I knew; then later wandered from Chetwood to Archet and back, then up towards where those rather high level mobs are located, on the LoneLand border. Another place where the unclimbable cliffs have vanished and a gentle slope has appeared.

I have jumped into Archet over the hills on the north side on a level 12ish character before, as well as moving in and out of Chetwood via gaps in the wall near the brigand HQ in Archet.

Yes, a lot of changes were made (by Scenario I think) round the Barrow Downs and the Old Forest. Think it was around the time of the Archet changes.

How long ago? I was in there recently with a L12 alt, and the wall stopping me from heading towards Chetwood was there.

I have a couple of L0 alts in the vault, I might drag one out next week and get it started just to see what the situation is for newbies right now.

I know a lot of landscape bugs have turned up in recent updates, I managed to get completely off the map in several different places in LoneLands, to the point the game shut down and plonked me in Archet L0 position on restart; although I have never managed to find my way into the hidden parts of Bree Town.

Two or three months maybe? I’ve only been playing a year and it was on my low level hobbit minstrel alt. I’m pretty sure I was 12 but was definitely no more than 15 max because I was in the middle of doing the low level slayer deeds for brigands and spiders in Bree Land.

OK, thanks, I didnt really note what level my alt was at the time (I thought it was about 12), when I start the next one I will try to escape as soon as I am allowed out of Archet, and see what happens, then continue to test after each level up event.

    EDIT

OK scratch that, I just logged back in to the L75 character I left in Archet - the wall is there (to the right of the footbridge across to the Hunters Lodge), but there is a hole in it. Fairly certain there was NO wall when I logged out.

Hasn't that been open for quite some time now, about the same time that Southern Barrow Downs was opened up to Bree Land?

I've not been that way other than for a new alt doing the Archet training quests in many months, which is why I was asking the question. I am fairly certain all the cliffs are still there inside the training instance; but sections (but not all) of the barriers are missing for my other alts..

Thanks, they still havent fixed those misbehaving reeds btw; at least the ones in the Midgewater marshes are only distant imposters and vanish when you get close enough, the ones in Archet are REAL, you can run right into them, and a blurry as f, so dont look good at any distance.

The reeds get fixed and then some how get unfixed after a couple of months. It's a pesky issue that continues to be a headache for me.

This is how I see Scenario at work fixing the "reed bug":

How about replacing the area affected entirely with something else - a fountain with a cherub squirting water through a trumpet for instance??

Failing that, nuke it from orbit - it is the only way to be certain.

    Not entirely innaccurate.

So... you want giant cherub fountain distant imposter bugs?

I haven’t noticed the ones in the Midgewater Marshes, but I rolled a new burglar the other day and there were some in the water near the hunting lodge in Archet. When I got close I thought I had been transported to Minecraft! I hope they aren’t spreading; we don’t want a “Red Weed” scenario (no pun intended ) ...

The old invisible walls are mostly gone, but beginning characters in Archet are in the introduction/prologue which is like an instance. So there's no wandering out of the intro at level 2 into Chetwood etc. Once you finish the intro/prologue instance and enter the in-game-world version of Archet, the walls are gone just like for everyone else.

    OK, thanks.
