"Reminder of Captivity" should be destroy-able. Don't want be forced to play boring Isendgard a third time..

I'm on my third character... I've played the Isengard content two times already. Please make "Reminder of captivity" destroyable. I don't like being forced to play content that I don't like, for a third time, just because "Reminder of captivity" can't be destroyed and will be stuck in my inventory, for ALL eternity, unless I play those same, lame, boring quest chains on each of my characters. <EOM>

Originally you could destroy the Reminder, but the number of players that destroyed it and then couldn't find their way back to Under Isengard would surprise you -- that's why we ensure that it doesn't go away.

Since you've played it before, my advice is to drop the quest chain before you complete Volume III, Book 4, Chapter 18 ('The Captive'), and then you can safely ignore the parts you find lame and boring. Seems like a decent solution to me!

    Thanks for the advice!

Here's an idea.... Rather than make the Reminder permanent, maybe make it destroyable after 10 Levels, with a note on the item stating as such? "The Captive" is a level 72 quest and I doubt anyone is going to go back to Isengard underground past level 82. If they do have a reason to, that far into leveling, then they probably know how to get there on their own.

If we had the ability to do that it would mostly solve the problem (although not entirely -- we can't guarantee when players are bringing their characters through here), but Destroyability is a Yes/No characteristic; changing that would take some time from an Engineer, and they've got much more important things on their plates.

The Reminder itself was actually a compromise! It was either giving you a way to teleport back to Under Isengard or preventing you from leaving it entirely, and nobody realistically thought it was a good idea to *actually* trap you there.

I don't know if it would work or not because I've never tried it, but, if the quest is able to be cancelled, through the filter options, then you could probably delete the quest item after filtering/cancelling it.

    My two Eurocent.

The shackles are working the same way as whistles do which are used to conjure a NPC in order to tag along with you. Imho they should still be an item within the inventory, but maybe the need to carry them along all the time (and later this map) can be circumvented. In case they aren't there any more, you may instead use a horn outside of Isengard that makes the two entrance trolls club you (What are doing here, maggott? Back with you where you belong!) and drag you back to your cell, where you wake up and can start wandering again. When the quest line is done, the horn will no longer work. Or maybe in a different way, by giving you the Prisoner of Isengard cosmetics again, if you had deleted them.

"unless I play those same, lame, boring quest chains"

Has it even occurred to you that this may not be *quite* the best way to get a positive response from a developer?

Maybe just saying that you don't want to play the same quests a third time would have sufficed - just as some of us have asked that the session plays be made skippable after the first time or three times or five times per account - as good as they are the first time.

I thought about that a few hours after I wrote it; You're not wrong, but too late now. The comment stems from a huge amount of frustration I have with some of the "on rails" choices the LOTRO team has made in later years of this game.

    For instance...

    1. Tying trait points directly to book quests rather than by level.
    2. Certain quests that I simply cannot remove from my quest log.
    3. Being stuck with items in my bags, unless I complete an extremely long (and frankly boring) quest chain, or if I don't cancel the chain at just the right time.

and as you stated, others have requested that session plays be skipable after the first time through. For me, that would be a "nice to have" but not a must.

My overarching point is that players who have multiple characters, need some additional flexibility to play in new ways and not always be forced into doing "Book" or "mandatory" quests.

What is the point of adding new zones to the game, if players will end up with a character that is far from optimal, if they don't follow a very specific path.

deboot - I agree with pretty well everything you say. I have been playing since release, with breaks, and things that work well or are at least acceptable the first few characters get old after a while. So do I for that matter but that is nothing the devs can help with.

I disagree... Game developers make changes all the time. For them it's a matter of priorities (As MadeOfLions stated earlier in the thread). I point out things in the game that bother me, so that maybe I will get a response with a work around (which I did), or maybe they will be fixed in current content, or kept in mind for future content.

Read what I said again, a bit more carefully, and you will see why the devs cannot help the problem I mentioned <chuckles<.

I don’t see how destroying that parchment would be an option. No matter how many fail safes you have, you are still gonna have people throwing a fit because they can’t go back.

I get it though, I really do. I’ve been through Isengard like 10 times, maybe more, so I totally get what you’re saying. I agree with you.

I think a better solution would be to have a super fast speed boost that lasts the entire time there. I think it’s the running back and forth that makes it tiring. Even the 10% run boosts aren’t fast enough when you’ve been in Isengard 10 times.
