So I remember during winter when I played that we will get new forum at some point.
It would be nice to have reaction on posts like "like", "happy", "sad" or something like that, but don't give us angry emoticons, it would turn out to be very misused and lead to negative impact to forum posters. Reason why I ask this is that some of us need to quote person to say that we agree, this could save us some unnecessary postings on threads. And since it is internet maybe it would be better to keep emoticons anonymous? Even though I don't mind if someone see my reaction.
What community say about this? Would you like to have sometimes ability just to react and don't need to quote person just to say "this"?
You cant quote people anymore with the default mobile skin. Anyway, sounds like a good idea to me, we used to have the ability to sort of do that (only positive +1, but it was something).

We have a few basic emotes already enabled at LOTRO:
Very Happy
Cool
Happy
Wink
Blush
Sarcastic
Mock
Confused
Don't like
Sad
Angry
Some others are also used as post icon that may be introduced as text as well since they are already represented at this forums. Will not hurt to add even more emotes as long they are universal symbols, simple & very specific to certain feeling. Shouldn't add emotes that means insults, that will create a undesired negative impact. Shouldn't use very country specific emotes since will not get the message through as there are people from all over the world playing LOTRO.
On a slightly related note, that rules of allowing only 5 pictures per post, i get it to prevent players from overloading the LOTRO Forums with too much data. It shouldn't count the tiny emotes barely bigger than the font symbols.
They sortof have this already, though?
(I used the angry one just because...I'm not actually angry. I've never actually used these...)
I assume you mean, like, under the post and not having to add a comment to do it.
I sortof like the thumb's up thing...I think these forums used to have that actually but my memory is foggy.
Didn't these forums used to have forum rep? Like people could up or down vote you for rep?
I didn't like that system. People created alt accounts all the time to cheese it.
(If it was another forum I'm thinking of, I'm sorry.)
I like reactions, don't want a rep system based on it, though.

Yeah, exactly that. Like thumbs up, or heart, or something... Similar like you can react on some social media posts.
Sry people maybe I could have explain myself better.
I only dont recommend angry emoticons for that kind of stuff because it at least seems to me that people misuse it.
There absolutely has to be a 'disagree' reaction. Sometimes it's just better to agree to disagree on a post you have contention with instead of going out of your way and spending several minutes writing a long post no one is going to read anyway, and if they do arguments are likely.
It doesn't have to add to negate to any score like reddit or Xenforo templates, it could just be a thing to agree or disagree on a post, brevity is something in short supply here.
If there's just positive reactions then what's the point? Facebook?
Integrated into a notification system is optional (but should absolutely be a feature for replies in the new forums). But it would increase the likelihood of people using the forum actively, something about receiving notifications to scour through seems to hook people into social medias.
I understand the community on the forums is sensitive and would probably have great contention with anyone putting a thumbs down or whatever on their post, but that doesn't represent the wider and more earnest Lotro community. I think that sensitivity will change when more than a vocal handful of people use the forum actively. Something that will probably happen if the forum is modernized.
Also a heart reaction would be kinda cute ngl

I saw confused emoji on GW2 forum, people use it mostly for disagreement. There is valid point in what you said that it would be nice to have some kind of disagreement. I also like reddit system with downvote and upvote. But I didn't explore science when comes to forum reactions. Good that you mentioned maybe their UX/UI designer will find some conclusions about that in their designer circles and media. And also I agree that we could have notifications system.

With a reaction feature or whatver, I could have given you a thumbs up to acknowledge that I read and liked the post without having to post again if I didn't have anything else meaningful to add.
I'm sure the decision will ultimately boil down to how SSG sees the community and whether or not they'll be trusted with such a huge power

What LOTRO forums used to have, im glad that got removed & i hope that never comes back was a system to vote on each individual poster reputation. The system got abused as a way to harrass other players.

LOTRO forums already have a notification system. Click on "Thread Tools", then "Subscribe to Thread". Be sure that you have receive email notifications enabled at LOTRO & actually added the desired email on your profile, where you wish that it gets sent.

You can already vote on each individual thread at LOTRO forums. Click on "Rate this Thread" & choose what you think of it.

I am referring to forum notifications similar to inbox notifications for anyone who quotes or responds to a post. So if they are logged on they can see a notifications inbox along with an easy to access list so people can quickly catch up with conversations. This is different than oldschool subscriptions via email and I think it would be a neat feature along with maybe also reactions.
With a redesigned forum, I think it should come with more modern features. This would encourage more people to use the forums more actively.
I understand those who grew up with older forums. I did. And change can be strange. But I also understand the need to get people active on the forums and a little bit of convenience can go a long way in this regard. It's why the subreddit seems more actively posted on than the forums even if Reddit is clunky in its own regard.

Show me where you can receive notifications for people quoting or replying to your post throughout the forum.
There is a difference between subscribing to individual threads and being notified automatically if someone replies to any of your posts.
All I'm saying is that it's not 2005 anymore, some modernization would be appreciated.
Hell, we could even go Twitter mode and have an @tag system for usernames that notifies the person if tagged.
