I'd be willing to host a bittorrent seed on my 100M server if there's a standalone patch executable.

Interestingly, patch.lotro.com (which the Launcher tries to access every time it "retries" the connection), currently redirects to the maintenance page, which I imagine is why the Launcher says the connection attempt failed. I've tried it from a few geographical locations and it seems to be the same situation everywhere.

I can understand things being broken and give slack, but don't tweet about how everything is sunshine and unicorns while most people still can't seem to connect. In fact, Turbine shouldn't have anyone tweeting anything until the game works.

Hmm, mine seems to be failing to connect. I'll try it later tonight when I get home from work...or tomorrow morning before I go in. xD

From what I gathered in this thread, people are getting the best results by starting their Launcher, letting it run for a while, and restarting it from time to time if it hasn't connected yet. Maybe every 20 minutes or so. Eventually they have gotten in.

This didn't work so well for me, but luckily I had one computer already patched, so I copied that patched game folder over to our other computer, manually patching it as well.

That said, add my Win boxes to the list of ''A connection attempt failed'' every 60 seconds, plus client restart every 10-20 mins ... for hours ... with no love.

Hopefully in the launch post-mortem, Turbine will get the hint that purchasing a LOT of extra bandwidth on launch day would have greatly decreased customer dissatisfaction. While I can't imagine many (if any) people are going to /ragequit over not being able to play a day earlier than first expected ... I CAN imagine the grudge carrying on to reduce LOTRO Store sales.
they might trash pando as well it dont work.

if it wasent for torrent site 3rd party i couldent download Lotro.

pando worst #### ever on the surface of the world of internet.

    I don't miss that, tbh :P
I remember the days when there was no patching at all, because the only thing you did on the client side was run the telnet client of your choice. Of course, the MUDs were all text then...

I think people just want to make sure they themselves aren't bugged in some way. The questions on twitter seem to be asking stuff like "should I be restarting my client if X is occurring".

I personally would have liked to know whether I should have restarted my client after I downloaded the patch and could not connect to my world. If the distribution system is torrent-like then patched people like me not seeding slows other people's updates down.

Sure there are going to be some fanatical people out there. Let's do our best not to let crazy win.

Absolutely. This is something Turbine should consider for future updates. It saves so much trouble being able to download the patch beforehand. Also it's "just" a patch anyway, a simple update of files on local computer, there's nothing complicated about that. Also as you said, release using torrents is very simple, for sure much simpler than now when everyone's trying to update through launcher at the same time.

I seem to remember, from the EU migration, that you get redirected to the maintenance page if you can't connect due to congestion. I'm sure someone will be along to correct me if I'm wrong

When I opened the client earlier, it downloaded and installed a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. It seemed to install properly, but now my client fails at the Connect phase, not Examine Programs like some have reported - is this still normal, or did something go wrong already?

actually from what i understand as it is a patch server and not Peer to Peer people who are patched logging in is still checking with the patch server to make sure they are up to date and thus slow things down ?

Anyone with a bit more technical knowledge know for sure there ?
