Highest mountain/best view in LOTRO?

Hi all,

Being a geography geek, I wondered what the highest accessible (and perhaps non-accessible - there's a challenge!) place is in LOTRO?

In a similar vein - what's the furthest you've ever seen in Ultra High graphics mode from a high point?

For example, from the Colossus, you can see the Fields of Fornost, Lake Evendim, and the very north of the Shire (near Dwaling) in one view. Anyone seen further?

Interesting question. I know that Ost Baranor gives you a great view to the Barrow Downs and Bree but both block seeing any further. Looking West from Helegrod also is an incredible view but again the lay of the land defeats seeing too much. I am sure this is intentional. Weathertop is probably the least obstructed view that I can think of.

When you first enter into Rivendell. I love the view of the entire Valley. Either that or some of the deeper chasms of Moria are pretty neat, but Rivendell is still one of my favorites. I also like standing across the river in Tuckburough and looking out to Hobbiton and surrounding areas.

The view from the top of Nar's Peak is really, really pretty.

So is the view from the pinnacle of Orthanc (snapped a screenie while in the session play as Grima. ;D).

I just thought of another. I am not sure if Veteran characters are able to do this one though as I noticed it when making a new character through Evendim. You get a quest to go to the very top of the giant King Statues. The view up there is amazing.

For pure esthetics I love Ost Baranor. You can see so much of Breeland from up there and you are always alone (except for the boars and bears).

Yep - that's the one I mentioned in my OP, aka Colossus. Outstanding views.

Oh cool. I did not know the name. I have a few more. Just generally speaking, if you use some of the Kegs that port you to specific locations there can be some pretty neat views. The Moria Keg has one that sends you way up top of the 21st Hall in some little bar. Kind of cool to see.

i agree completely!! I remember the first time I saw Rivendell and I thought it was breath-taking, and everytime I pass through there it still strikes me as one of the best views in any game ive played

Whenever I am running an alt through V1B2 epic and stand on top of Weathertop (which has a great view), I still shudder...

At the memory of a bunch of us from the Kin deciding to head up there and take some screen shots for the web site we had at the time. We got there and someone asked if it was possible to survive the fall from the top. Who can resist a challenge like that? 8 resurrections later back at the circle, we realised we hadn't actually taken any screen shots!

There are several good places to view the lands of Eregion, but the view from the top of Mirobel is one of the best.

View from the Colossus is indeed great, though I guess I mainly rate the views differently. The first time I completed the Ridge-racer deed in Eregion, reaching the top of the Hollin Ridge, I thought that's a good view too. On later visits there, I hardly paid any attention; it was just another deed. I guess many places feel great when you reach them the first time.

I don't really care about heights, neither in game, nor in real life. I prefer beauty. One of my favourite locations is at a very low spot - Araniant in Enedwaith. On the very first time after the release of Enedwaith, when I was doing the quests in quite a rush with some kinmates, I couldn't resist stopping on the bridge, just looking around and taking screenshots. And I still seem to stop there whenever I wander nearby.

I'm not really sure why it always catches me.

There are some very nice views from the different towers in Eregion. Also, in the Misty Mountains in the giant town, there's a particular wall section up on the mountain that offers a great view of the valley.

Lastly, there are various ones, and I haven't quite decided which is better, but a high point overlooking the bay in Forochel at night with the Northern Lights is very pretty.

I've always liked the view from the top of Barad Guldur, on the Lieutenant's platform. You can see right out over Mirkwood to the mountains above Moria.

The Trollshaws and lone lands seem to have very clearn, sharp stars. If you can get up on top of something in those areas, you can see some neat night skies. Try some of the mountains in the southern Trollshaws.

Theres also, of course, Weathertop, though theres no real one spot to see all around you(oddly!) because of all the ruins.

Does anyone know the name of the lookout in the south Trollshaws (it's a destination in one of the quests down there) that gives you a really nice view of Eregion and further south. When the sun is setting it's a neat view, also you get a very large night sky.

There's a spot in the Northern High Pass of the Misty Mountains that isn't really high up but offers a beautifull view over the pass below - especially in the dark when it's snowing. I used to stand there for long stretches of time back in the early days when I leveled my first char from 46-50 killing Wargs in the MM and collecting craploads of ancient iron ^^ Sometimes I even miss Sulmog

There are some nice viewpoints in Ettenmoors too, though even with highest draw distance on, the structures like Tol Ascarnen etc don't seem to be visible from much of a distance, which is a shame.

If you bounce off things a certain way....yes you can .

My dwarf has a past time called dwarf diving...if there is a ledge I jump it and try to live.

You would be surprised how many falls a hairy screaming wrecking ball can survive.
