Monday downtime - Columbus Day

For that matter... were any businesses closed today? Or schools? Just because the name is marked on the calendars doesn't mean businesses close their doors. My workplace is open on Halloween, and that is a heck of a more "celebrated" holiday in the US than Columbus Day.

Just anything associated with government mainly (so yes, unfortunately that includes schools), not much in the real world is affected though, unless some private businesses choose the close on that day for whatever reason.

Speaking of holidays, will a splash screen advertising the Harvest Festival be going up soon? I'm still getting the splash screen for the Farmers Faire.

Well it sounds like the Boston kids got a day off. Not sure about people in my area. My family homeschools. My dad works for the school district but he has until tomorrow off anyway because he decided to take a mini vacation.

Dear Turbine;

I think you should schedule your next update/maintenance on a Saturday. I will be at work, because I work retail and don't understand people getting upset about Monday updates, but I'd like to see how many conceited people get their hobbit britches in a twist for the inconvenience of keeping the game running. We'll call it a social experiment. Everyone who does something productive instead of whining can get TP or consumables. I thank you for your consideration.

I agree as I also work in retail. Sunday afternoon would also work for me, I'll be home by 5. Remember folks, in retail there's no such thing as holidays or weekends!!

I think you should schedule your next update/maintenance on a Saturday.

They have weekends off, buddy. That's why there are barely any closed threads, bans, etc over the weekends.

Turbine puts forth a lot of effort to run this game... Let them have two days off a week

We had a number of employees bring their kids to work today. It worked out really since we had the entertainment crew in yesterday to put up some Halloween decorations and the kids got a big kick out of it today.

I logged in several characters today: 3 85's, and a few underleveled characters, none of their login times took longer than 45 seconds, most were about 30 seconds in fact. Great job! Hope you enjoyed the holiday even at work.

Somehow I doubt that those in retail (ie: those who regularly work weekends?) are the majority of the playerbase. Scheduling maintenance on a weekend would be a pain for a lot of people because the average person has the weekend off.

I'll state it clearer once again:
Some holidays which affect a major part of the player base. This is not the same as every holiday in every country.
The last sentence is a hyperbolic argument, and it is used as #1 in all of the discussions about holiday maintenance.

Let's talk about holidays of 10% of the user base. Wouldn't it be worth shifting maintenance by one day for them?
(and yes, maybe Columbus day wouldn't hit those 10%. But this has already happened with a 20% treshold)

Some holidays could be part of their schedule. I am working in a company that takes holidays of customers and cooperation partners into account, even if we don't have to.
This is a matter of choice, and not a matter of circumstances. Circumstances can cause schedule deviation, but they do not control the choice in this case.

I guess this is one of the threads in which the defenders of Turbine did all the things people criticizing are normally acused of:
Negativity, hyperbolism, irony, sarcasm, soft harassment, not reading before writing ....

Of all thinkable workplaces, I guess Turbine would have the least problems of entertaining a bunch of kids without throwing tons of hamburgers at them. Which company has an entertainment crew? We certainly don't...
