No. It was a bug. When I logged in there were approximately 370 players online (not anon) in the entire world.

You take off the area filter on the social panel, then start sorting it by class. X burglars, X minstrels, etc. There's usually more than 100 hunters and 100 is the max it will count, so I look at how many hunters level 1-50, then how many 51-100. Add the numbers, and you'll find out how many characters are on the server that are not anonymous.

Today our internet provider fought with their whatever until they finally just took the access away from all their clients for 6 hours. When we called we were answered by a recording "We are aware that your internet connection is not available at this time. Recently there's been some problems and we are working to resolve them for your pleasure and safety. Your service will be restored when we have completed our work." (Translated) The internet came back up just a few minutes ago and we are back to our previous experiences of last month. Apparently it was not Turbine's fault. Please accept my apology, Turbine.

Well, in my case the line was up, according to my router log. Regardless of that, Maiar booted me two hours ago, right in the middle of an instance belonging to the first volume of the epic quest line.
