Can We Have a New Background Image for the Forum Login Screen?

    The title says it all.

Since the background image for the forum login screen has not been changed in a very long time (when Rohan came out I think), could it be replaced with a different image?
The examples I am thinking of are distant screenshots of:
    Evendim
    Dol Amroth
    Cape of Belfalas*

I think that it would be a very nice change, especially since it is the first thing you see before getting onto the forums. I would not want to see a monstrous face before writing about pleasant adventures in beautiful surroundings.

*Speaking of the Cape of Belfalas, I will soon write about what I think about the quests and provide some suggestions.

As much as I'd like to see something more appropriate for where we are in the game at this point, I will literally take anything you have to put up there, just so I don't have to see the Rohirrim (presumable Eomer?) holding the misaligned sword one more time.

I was looking into this last Friday, but unfortunately it looks to be a not-easy change to make, and would require enough of a web site update that it's unlikely to happen. Sorry.

How about nothing?? So we dont have to sit for 5 seconds, waiting for the image before we can click on "Log In" ?? Staring at the "Log In" button, waiting for the blank rectangle to sprout words is bad enough.

Seriously, the forums have felt like they were being run from a 90's BBS on dial-up recently.

This is a truly remarkable claim.

Somewhere, there is a file with the image that is currently being displayed. Replacing that file with an identically-named file containing a different image of the same size should not require the IT equivalent of a brain surgeon.

It's hard to believe such rudimentary technical know-how is lacking in a company whose business is based on the internet, but we'll have to take your word for it...

Its more likely the same lazy programming skills used to keep the game going were used to create the forums, ie the image call is actually buried somewhere in the middle of the code; and they would have to trawl through the code to find where it is, then use that information to locate where the image is stored, assuming the image isnt burried in the code as well.

A lot of "professional coders" are too full of themselves to create proper records of what various parts of their code do - THEY know, so why bother; then the people who inherit the code dont have a clue what half of it does - hence the weird side effects every time they change something in the game.

Actually, as if yesterday evening (GMT), the image is failing to appear at all for me, so perhaps they have already deleted it (by accident).

That's actually pretty pathetic. SSG is so bad and unprofessional it's unreal.

No chance of just overwriting https://www.lotro.com/sites/all/them...helms-deep.jpg with something else?

That was done in Turbine's time.

What about the forum remembering us?

Nope, it's even worse - to replace that one file, they would have to delete the whole internet and start over from scratch!

No, No, it goes deeper than that!!
