@Cord - Yes, LotRO will run on the Steam Deck!

    Hi Cord,

So whilst the steam deck does use linux, valve have been working on compatibility software called Proton which runs windows games on Linux. It's via this software that Valve intends to run games on linux, on the steam deck. I can confirm that LotRO already runs extremely well, in some cases better than on Windows 10, using this software as this is the way I currently play the game.

SSG will need to do nothing to get support, and Valve themselves are recommending that players go to them for support, not the game developer.

So yes, LotRO (and as far as I know, DDO too) will run on the steam deck without problems!

    Well pending certain things.

If a Player would use the Steam Deck and the Steam Deck Dock (which is sold separately and currently as of October 22nd, 2021 has no pricing) would be the most optimal way to play LOTRO on the Steam Deck.

This Steam Deck Dock can connect to a Monitor, peripheral devices (Mouse, Keyboard), Ethernet Jack, etc to turn the Steam Deck into a PC which would be the best way to play LOTRO especially on a 1920x1080 Monitor.

Handheld Steam Deck Mode at least ahead of anyone actually getting it, playing LOTRO on it and then giving their Review + Footage of such is up for debate of how good on a scale of 1 to 10 of it's Performance both in terms of Hardware (which does seem more than enough for LOTRO) & being on such a device with it's inputs to play.

Edit: Steam will also be having a Rating System for every game when it comes to the Steam Deck for how well it does on said Device, especially for it's Handheld Mode. Granted more than likely not every game will have this Rating at launch but with time more games will have such.

Another thing is which Model a Player might get, the Base Model Steam Deck has only 64GB of eMMC Storage.

I personally am excited for the Steam Deck although not getting one myself anytime soon but it is too early to judge with any certainty how well LOTRO will do on the Steam Deck right out of the box ahead of it's initial launch.

Does the in-game store open within the game, or are you forced to use an external browser?
Moved from Riddermark to Arkenstone on 9/29/2015!

While I am not interested in the Steam Deck, my computer is an older one that I rebuilt in 2015. I cannot run Windows 11 on it and I am not in a position to have to buy a new machine or new parts to rebuild one at this time just for the new Windows version. So, Windows 10 is as far as I can go at this time and that's fine while Windows 10 is still supported. I have dabbled in the linux world for years, often dual-booting my desktop. I found a non-systemd distribution that I like. Steam proton works very well running LotRO on PCLinuxOS. Only issue that I have is that launching the game glitches at times and I have to kill the launcher and restart a few times to get it going. Just like tapping that old vacuum tube TV ;p. The bullroarer client runs adequately, as is, in a generic WINE bottle. Any tips on getting better performance from generic WINE, I'd be interested in getting. Interestingly, I could not get Crossover to work on PCLinuxOS, 2021 version. As stated, Steam Proton did work.
