Your Mac doesn't need a scanner, but if you use one, read this.

Your Mac doesn't need a virus/malware scanner. The only way you are likely to get "infected" is via a social hack, i.e. somebody gets physical access to your machine or you grant remote access on purpose or by getting tricked to do so. And no scanner is going to protect you from that. Naturally, if you are playing LOTRO on a computer owned by someone else such as an employer and that employer insists that you use some scanner, then you need to keep using it. Otherwise, you are going to be better protected – and protected from a lot more than a malicious attack – if you perform proper backups regularly and frequently. (Proper backup methods are beyond the scope of this forum post.)

If you feel better running a scanner, good for you. But if you are using Crossover, your scanner is going to eventually **** it up. You need to properly whitelist all the Crossover components, including your LOTRO install within its Crossover bottle. Or you need to keep your scanner disabled; or delete the scanner from your Mac.

If you want to whitelist your Crossover and LOTRO stuff so you can keep using your scanner, read this:
    https://www.codeweavers.com/support/...al/bitdefender

Even if your specific scanner application is not covered in those instructions, you should be able to get enough hints as to what to do with your scanner application by carefully reading the instructions for the applications that are covered in that note.

If you can't whitelist all your Crossover and LOTRO stuff and you simply must use your scanner for whatever reason, at the very least you need to turn it off while you are installing Crossover, while you are installing any software into Crossover, and any time you are running Crossover (which means anytime you are going to play LOTRO). You can turn on the scanner when you're done playing after you've quit out of the game and shut down Crossover. Although, without whitelisting, your scanner will still eventually **** it up if it performs scans in the background on your files – so figure out how to whitelist the Crossover and LOTRO stuff on your Mac or disable/delete that scanner.

Thanks as always. I have twice submitted online help tickets and had them rejected because "We don't support Macs." Not a satisfactory answer, but we appreciate you taking up the slack.
