Sounds like this new area will not dissapoint.
And the tongue-in-cheek journal entries at the end were the very best part!

Why are there moose? Moose is North American. They should be elk, shouldn't they?

As I understand it, what are called moose in North America are called elk in Europe. (Their official name is Alces alces.) And what are called elk in North America are called red deer in Europe. (Their name is Cervus canadensis, and if I can trust Wikipedia the European red deer have only recently been shown to be a genetically different species.)

Re: Book 13 Dev Diary Feedback: Crafting the Content of Forochel

that's cool ... im glad to see that the Dev's are trying to listen to all the whining that goes around ...

Personally, I don't see an issue with finding groups ... what I see is a community that has spurned grouping with people they dont know ... and with plenty of good reasons ... Some people who play just have NO idea how to work in a group or how to think of others when grouping ... their thoughtlessness usually leads to death for the group.

Then you have those who's focus is greed and their only interest is in using the people around them to get the stuff/quest they need and then *zip* they're gone.

As a community, if we want more people to have the opportunity to group and feel good about the game ...so that they stay and give money to the devs that then translates into more time and money put into the content that we play .... we need to start thinking about maybe once in a while being available for people and be GOOD groupers ...

I want to take this chance to Comment Findurin and Ranaquinga ... on windfola for having been people who really were Good at being there for people who needed an extra hand, regardless of what they themselves are doing ... This doesn't mean they are niceity nice people ... Findurin's a pretty gruff guy (at least in the moors ) Yet he's one of those people ,that are scattered through out this game, that's willing to help those who honestly need it and know how to be appreciative ...

.... Sorry for the rant ... I don't know what came over me ... I guess I don't want the the devs to start making TOO many books that are focused on the Solo players.

... and I know that some solo-players can be changed around ... my small kin is almost completely made up of people who prefered soloing

.. Oh yeah, And the COntent looks great! i love the stuff I see so far .. can't wait for book13 to come out ...

This looks so great to me! My friends and I often play 'alone', but try to gather about 2 times a week.

We love zones with lots of quest lines that terminate in fellowship quests because it gives us lots to do when we aren't together, and focal points when we are together! This zone 'feels' like it's going to do that. (Love the Angmar update in this regard as well!)

I love the reputation system idea! I hope it doesn't ever get to the EQ1 style of 12 hours of straight grinding to get from hostile to tolerated and another 18 hours before you can interact. It doesn't seem like you guys ever want to /make/ a patient player grind, so I'm not actually worried.

Mostly I just love love love the idea of having 'more to do'. Our group despises repetitive play (like having to grind a dungeon multiple times , with the exception of helping a friend who needs it the 1st time). If this new zone can compete with north downs or even the new angmar for 'things to do' - then woot! Evendim was pretty good for 'things to do' and was a really nice change of pace - but it just didn't /quite/ nail it, though I'll be darned if I can quanitfy 'why'. Maybe it's just that it doesn't seem to flow quite as well and the 'third' quest hub is so much smaller and inconvenient to get to.

Re: Book 13 Dev Diary Feedback: Crafting the Content of Forochel

After a few trips to the hospital, a visit from Human Resources, and the hire of a few replacement employees, we came up with a fairly comprehensive list of new monsters and skills for Forochel.
I can see the staples and pens flying over chair and table barricades now....

Sounds like some cool stuff. I remember hearing something about frost affects from a video on youtube, if thats true even cooler. I also have to say that the mammoths are pretty cool looking.

I just have to say that Ive been with LOTRO for almost 2 months now. Im a veteran gamer of 15 years. I have been very impressed with turbine. They are pushing out more content in 2 month's time than Ive seen some games push out in half a year. By the time youve sunk your teeth into one new patch, you are already reading these exciting write up's, interviews, and tid bits about the next patch- Its just excellent. Turbine is doing everything almost perfect to make a game hugely succesful- Keeping the hype up, releasing high quality and plentiful content on a very solid timeline. Keep up the awesome work turbine.

I know. Moose is from an Algonquin word, and I don't suppose Tolkien would have used it if he had written about moose/elk. The animal itself seems appropriate, given the fact that there are moose/elk in Scandinavia, and Tolkien was influenced by Scandinavian mythology, folklore and language. I just think the word moose is inappropriate. I'd say elk rather than moose like reindeer rather than caribou. I know it's a little nitpicky.

Last i remember they already have elk in the game don't they? I thought they were in the southern part of Evendim.

Forochel will provide a mostly solo experience for players from level 44 through 50
Finally more quest I can do solo at higher level.
These quests can only be acquired after players have reclaimed one or more locations for the Lossoth, fighting back the invading Gauredain, an event that occurs periodically throughout the day.
The new daily reputation system almost sound like a PvP system.
But more importantly when is the release date?

Will we ever find out in Book 13 if Arvedui ever got a better signal for the Palantíri on the ship?

I don't remember if they're actually called elk (I seem to remember the word "hind" being involved), but they do make the sound that North American elk make. Anyway, I'm not about to go to Evendim to find out. That place just makes me angry.

Taking a brief glance over our files, none of the creatures that use our new Moose artwork are called "Moose". They go by the usual naming conventions that many of our "grazers" go by - some sort of herd-name.

Wow. Now I'm really glad that I joined this game. I've just been here for a couple of months on the Landrovel server. But I'm amazed at the amount of patches that are put into this game. I'm a long way off from Book 13 (just started Book 2) but I'm already looking forward to the newest entry. This and Mines of Moria has me really excited to progress faster (but not too fast) in the Epic story. And I especially love winter environs.

Thanks to all the Devs. Keep up the great work and you'll continue to get my money.

Book 13 is looking really good I can hardly wait.

I have always been intrigued by those same 6 paragraphs in the appendix dealing with the loss of Fornost and Arvedui's escape with the Palantir into the frozen north of Forochel. As a matter of fact at one time, many years ago, I wrote a short story about Arvedui's escape and his meeting the Lossoth who looked after him and his Dunadan while they waited for the ill-fated ship that would be their end.

I'm so excited you folks have also hooked on to that small reference point to build into our Epic storyline.

But more to the topic at hand:

Mind ya, moose bites can be veri nastii...
    DINIDAIN DIRGESINGER, Bandleader
    The Dirgesingers
"From Silverlode we brought our dirge, a song of want and woe; To Landroval we now call home, with songs of joy and hope!"
