Re: LOTRO Player Feed Fedback.

I edited my post above because I forgot that this posts as status updates (comments) and not app feeds so it can't be hidden from news feeds. It's not really that intrusive, I think, because it only makes maybe a couple of posts; one to say you are now playing LOTRO and then the one that comes after you've been logged out 10-15 minutes. I don't know if I'll keep using it because it's something that isn't important to me, but I like testing things out.

Carridwen is correct, although the actual character accomplishment posts are able to be hidden.

Note: We are aware that end session status updates and news feeds are not posting for many users right now. These feeds are delayed but not lost - they should be posted soon and subsequent feeds will show up correctly. If you install the application and choose not to grant extended permissions, please remove the application completely.

This looks really neat. I'd just like an option to be able to tell it when I want feeds sent to my facebook and when I don't. There are times when I'm playing that I don't want people to know I'm playing (leave me alone time). If there's a way to do that, then I'll be all over this.

Hmmm, I can't stand the spam from other things myself, so I probably won't be using it. It's a good idea from a marketing standpoint, though, and if you could just make it a Facebook "box" that fits on your profile, like the size of the accomplishments thing on my.lotro.com, it would be awesome and I would use it.

Thanks for pointing that out as I did not know.

Hmm, it actually hides the whole thing from the feed. Just checked with someone who hid the LOTRO Player from the news feed and it hid everything that the LOTRO Player posted. Of course, they still see it when they visit my wall, but it doesn't show up in the news feed.

This is what I see on my wall after using the LOTRO Player today:

Not at all spammy or intrusive, like some are worried about. The only time it might be spammy is if you log on and off a whole lot of times throughout the day and there's at least 10-15 minutes in between play times. Even then, it doesn't post big pictures or anything like the apps so it's easily overlooked by those that could care less. At least, this is my take on it.

    Re: LOTRO Player Feed Fedback.

We've identified an issue where users who remove extended permissions after adding the app can cause other players' updates to not get processed. We're working very hard to fix this and we'll update you when we've posted an update.

As for feedback, we hear you and are already thinking of ways to improve the app in the future. Being able to select whether or not to have status updates displayed will absolutely be in the future - and we may consider other alternative ways to tell when you're in the game as well. There have been some good suggestions for a profile box and are definitely worth looking into.

What about a small widget box that displays a green Online orb, or red Offline orb when you are in/out of the game? Feel free to post your suggestions here for improvements!

Make it a ring and that would be awesome. Maybe a glowing ring like when you have a quest to turn in can be online and a dull ring can be offline.

Kudos on the first incarnation of this, it's pretty neat.

Really like the glowing ring idea. I'm looking forward to this being expanded further on.

What if you have two LotRO accounts? This appears to only track one. Any way to enter account information for more than one account?

    Red ring?

    RED RING?!

...I believe the gamers, world over, have seen enough of the red ring.

One thing I would like to see is the ability to take an in game screenshot and publish it to FB directly.

Hmm, I'll have to give this a try. If nothing else, it'll get my Farmville-playing friends and family members curious.

Plus, finishing deeds and completing quests sounds infinitely more impressive than finding lonely brown cows.

That's a great idea, Gharet. Also, if possible, it would be cool if the feed could let one's friends now when a "major" accomplishment takes place---downing the Watcher, the Balrog, or that creepy guy on the flying lizard who hangs out in Dol Guldur. Alerts like that might actually make non-LOTRO players curious enough to try the game out for themselves, no?

Another game company another FB feed, it's a great way to get your friends to ignore you but I understand the business side of it, you get a lot of exposure for very little investment (once you build out the connection to the platform). Every marketing person at every (game) company in America is pushing for a FB feed of some kind.

Better yet - Make it show whenever somebody completes a dungeon by defeating the final boss. That would cover all those and more.

Does that mean you gave me rep?

    *checks*

    Drat.

On a more serious note, it would be some great advertising to the game if these two suggestions were implemented. If you just do the raids, then lots of people won't have those showing up on their profile box, but if you do any group instance everyone should have a fair few.

Did you receive an update correctly the last time you did play? It may have been that due to the bug that is backing up user updates, yours was stuck in queue and only now got posted

I think it's a pretty silly application. All those facebook apps like Mafia wars and farmville and stuff are just spam, annoying people who use facebook just to keep track of friends from other colleges or distant family etc.

This lotro app is silly, and I don't see why my friends need to know what i'm doing in lotro.

My lotro friends: I can talk to them about what i'm doing in-game or on our kinship forums.
For my few RL friends that I play lotro with: I'll talk to them over ventrilo or in person when we're away from game.

Update: We have updated the app in an attempt to fix the issues with sessions ends and feeds not being posted, and duplicate (and seemingly random) play start updated. This involved purging existing data but not subscriptions, so if you are currently logged in your session may be lost. New sessions started after this update should work.

    Re: LOTRO Player Feed Fedback.

Question. So I've installed the player feed. I'm interested in posting characters level, deed, and all that but I don't want it to keep saying "Ben is now playing LOTRO" and "Ben is finished playing LOTRO." That is just going to piss everyone off on my friends list.

I told it not to originally, but the feed is doing it anyway. I know how to switch what characters have posted info, but not how to turn the other part off. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Could it be made so that the app (widget or status updates) is only visible to other people with the app?

My facebook account is part of my public face to the digital world; I can't have clients and potential employers researching me online and seeing that I just downed a balrog

Honestly, I've stopped checking my Facebook page because I'm so annoyed by everyone's Farmville and Mafia Wars and other ridiculous updates. I'd prefer not to annoy others with info from my Lotro play.
