Actually, I thought they acknowledged the feedback and implemented or started to implement changes very well. New Vault 1.0 was almost universally disliked, but that's not the case with new Vault 1.1. After a few days of using it, I know prefer the latest iteration of the Vault, and after some initial time put into some re-organisation the new Vault saves me time.

well...those of us who HATED the old vault (and there were many of us) we had to wait 3+ years for a solution.

be patient im sure you will get what you want..eventually.

inability to adapt does not equal barely usable. you may not like it in its current form, but it's functional.

I beg to differ. It may be functional for you but it's not functional for me. It'll be barely functional once the update hits. It'll be working again once we can manually sort and see chests side by side again. The vault, in its current form, hinders play for me incredibly. I don't care how many people say but... but... there are filters!! I don't care about the filters. I don't like the filters. I never had to use a filter to find what I was looking for before because it was right there where I left it. I'm delighted that you, and people that like you, are happy with the vault. I'll be delighted when I, and people like me, are back to having a usable vault as well.

You can beg to differ all you want, but functionality is not a subjective thing.
    functional (adj):
    1. of or pertaining to a function or functions:functional difficulties in theadministration.

    2. capable of operating or functioning:When will the ventilating system befunctional again?

    3. having or serving a utilitarian purpose; capable of serving the purpose for which it was designed:functional architecture; a chair that is functional aswell as decorative.
The vault is 100% functional. It serves the exact purpose for which it was designed and does so in the exact manner in which it is intended. Just because it doesn't function the way YOU have gotten used to in the past does not make it any less functional.

I'm not a fan and hope there are more improvements coming than just 'named-chests'. I've actually been giving it a go in the last few nights, and it's painful for me to use. I spend a lot of time just trying to figure out what I have. Even with the filters.

The difference is clear to me in this way: Before I could see everything at once and it was icon / location driven for me. I didn't have to know exactly know what something was or even if I had it.

Now basically I have to have an intimate understanding of my inventory and names before I even open up the UI (since we don't really have 'chests' anymore). The filters are really only helpful if you know what you are looking for and what it is called. And the discrete pre-defined filters lack something useful: 'group' classifications. ex: 'all armour', 'all crafting', etc... Can I just see all my armour? No. Can I just see all of my crafting mats? No. Yes, I can take twenty or thirty minutes to go through my inventory and slowly whittle down things into different 'chest' (aka sever side tag filters) but that really is a PITA if that's what's expected when the previous UX was 'what you see is what you get'.

I appreciate that this solves problems for Turbine. But the UX is so fundamentally changed that it's hard for me to get past. I dread using my inventory now. Likewise, I guess I'm going to have to make a flowchart or spreadsheet so that I can internalize what can be dragged and dropped where and what cannot (between bags, vault, shared storage, and wardrobe).

    No.

You can't say the vault serves the purpose for which it was designed unless you have a copy of the design document describing the purpose of the vault.

Go ahead, get it out, I'll wait.

    /pause

Now that we've dealt with that, unless the purpose of the vault was to dramatically lower the usability of the vault for a significant portion of the players, then I think we can say that it is, in fact, NOT serving that purpose. So there's merit in the position that, as currently implemented, the vault is not 100% functional.

lol. nice try. I'm pretty sure the basic purpose of a vault is to hold your stuff that you don't want to carry around in your bags. It does that. It just doesn't do it in a way that everyone wants it to. It still functions AS A VAULT.

That's not gonna happen. Despite their hopes & dreams, even the most fervent Turbine fanboi doesn't actually get any inside information.

Wait, how can you say that it's not serving it's purpose if (by your own argument) you don't have the design document either?

He didn't claim knowledge that it wasn't serving its purpose. He demonstrated that the person claiming that it served its purpose couldn't prove the claim.

Although I still hate the redesign, I actually used the alphabetizing to my benefit today: it was the easiest way to see whether I had duplicate recipes in my bag. So it's not all bad. I guess.

    Re: New Vault

The ONLY thing good about the new vault is they fixed the bug with the shared vault with dragging an item to a stack when all of the slots are full (used to have to drag an item out to make an empty spot, and drag it in to add to the existing stack, and drag the other item back in) (but that was also only a bug fix).

I am baffled that manual sorting is not even really on Turbine's radar.
    1) Stretching the window horizontally
    2) Manual sorting
    3) Pulling bags out in a separate window (viewing multiple at once)
    4) Hiding names
Those four should be the top priorities (in my opionion in that order). One can only add in so many auto-sorting options that SLIGHTLY diminish the utility of a manual sort, but it only covers a couple cases while players have countless reasons for putting things in certain orders that the developers will never fathom (thus the need for a manual sort can never be eliminated or replaced).

#3 could actually be mostly eliminated by stretching the window horizontally, hiding item names (showing rows of icons), and maintaining separate rows of icons for each bag; resulting in showing all of the bags at once but without mixing them all together.

    Re: New Vault

Every time I visit a vault keeper, I /slap them, /angry them and then finally /cry as I click to see my vault.

Within 3 seconds I used to get my crafting stuff out I needed.
Now I can put stuff into a chest, and then click chest 1 and grab everything out, but then I need to grab my scrolls in another chest.
When I go back to to vault after crafting I have to choose chest 1 and then move any completed stuff to another chest, and oh which chest was my scrolls supposed to be in?

Yeah.. giving up crafting till stuff changes =\ There are some good suggestions in this thread, hope they get implemented.

It seems so many things have lowered usability.
The character select screen, the forums, the community site in whole..

Turbine should hire a reputable company to come fix things aesthetically, and create better usability. The team they have has failed.

I finally sorted all my stuff on my main into the new chest scheme last night and I LOVE the system. Once I can name the chests so I don't have to remember which they are, it will be an awesomely easy thing to use.

The new layout is fine IF...

    1. We can add section breaks for each original vault chunk and name them.
      .
    2. We can resize the entire vault window horizontally as well (too small, can only resize vertically right now).

    Re: New Vault

After using the new vault for a while I can say I now love the system. Personal vault space, shared storage, and the wardrobe have changed how I manage my inventory.

I purchased shared storage up to 50. This is where I keep much of my resources, crafting results, recipe drops, rep items and anything that more than one character can use. I'm better able to manage those items because they are all stored in a central location and not fragmented out to various characters where I'm not sure who has what.

The wardrobe cleared the cosmetic stash out leaving my personal inventory for just those items that are character usable only. Now when I'm on a character I know that everything they need is in one of my three vaults and only personal items are in my personal vault space. It has really reduced the amount of alt swapping I do.

Vault performance is also much better than the old system and I don't have to deal with duplicate stacks. Overall this has been a huge improvement for me.
Centuries ago, in primitive times, before the dawn of civilization, there were things that would be inconceivable to us today; such things as poverty, disease, violence, senility, and love.

Glad you're happy with it. I'm not because I can't see my entire vault at one glance. I can never fit the 120 spaces I have unlocked with my main on the screen at the same time. Before I could visually spot where I was and what I had for items, whereas now I'm guessing, scrolling, sorting, etc. to find out.

For those of us who kept our vault space meticulously organized this new layout is a kick in the gut. I want to be able to toggle back and forth if Turbine can't give us horizontal resizing and section breaks to reflect original chunks of vault space.

    Re: New Vault

I'd like to see something like an option to add bold lines along the borders to show how the items in the chests are divided when you are using the 'All' chests view.

Let me see if I can make some Ascii art to demonstrate.

    M = main chest
    1 = chest #1
    2 = chest #2
    etc.

    M M
    M M
    M M
    M M
    M|1
    1 1
    1 1
    2 2
    2|3
    3 3
    3 3
    3 3
    4 4

I know how bad that looks, but I think it'll express my thoughts well-enough. It would also be nice if there was an indication, perhaps on the tool-tips, that states what chest they are in, rather than right-clicking it and looking to see which chest you can't move it to to figure out which chest it's in.

    Re: New Vault

I'm unsubscribing from this thread after this post, because I'm quite frankly tired of reading all the posts from those who can't be bothered to read it - even the last few pages.

For the record, the devs have said that the following things will be included in future updates:

    1. Resizing of vault and shared storage windows horizontally.
    2. Custom-naming of individual vault chests
    3. Option to turn off display of text names for items in the vault

    As well, they've said this:

    • THE "OLD VAULT" IS NOT COMING BACK, NOR CAN IT BE MADE AN OPTION.

The technology has changed. The implementation of that technology (including software) has changed. The old vault system cannot, and will not, be restored. Ever.

    Get over it.

Please at least read the posts by the blue names before posting - I know it's a long thread but it will save you from asking for things that are already coming.

Here's a summary of things coming (so far) for the new vault in the next major update (barring any unforeseen issues):

Resizing the vault horizontally - confirmed here
    Renaming Chests - confirmed here
Turning off item name display - confirmed here
    Surprise improvements - confirmed here
Tabs/chest icons instead of a drop down list - confirmed here
Button added to vault window to open shared storage (possibly wardrobe too) - confirmed here

Software is software, and the reasoning you state isn't necessarily true. Your first part of the post was correct. The second part is just flame baiting opinion.

Already done that in the past. I'm asserting what would make me happy as a customer. What devs say is coming and what is actually here are two different things. Plans can change, so I'm reasserting what I prefer as a minimum. No need to try to slap others' hands as if you're moderating the thread. But I do appreciate the links since I did not know of "surprise enhancements".

I wasn't trying to slap anyone's hands or moderate the thread, and my post most certainly was not directed at you, in fact when I started my post, your post wasn't even there. It took a while to track down the links, and I made some hot chocolate too.

I was just attempting to catch everyone up, especially those asking for the specific improvements that are already on the way.
