    Harvest Festival 2013

    Hey Sapience,

Can we get a date for the Harvest Festival this year? I don't see anything on the calendar yet, and with so many bounty tokens left to grind out for all my characters, I need to plan accordingly

    Thanks

You can say that again. -.- Riddermark only just hit the goal a few days ago. I've managed to save up around 4k tokens (without spending any at all). With such a low drop rate I saw pretty fast that it worthless trying to get the deeds done on all 9 toons so I just ignored them. When I first saw this Bounder's Bounty thing and then saw the WS cosmetic, I knew instantly that I wanted it for all my toons. Unfortunately, that seems pretty impossible at this point.

I feel your pain, I managed to get the deed done on my 16 alts, and now I "only" have enough tokens to get the mount on 1 toon, and if I am lucky I might get it on another.

I hope the tokens will be somewhat easier to get in the future events/festivals, so I could get it on more.

Steed of the Bat? First time I hear of it, did I miss something?

And yes, it would be great to know when to expect Harvest Festival this fall. Will it be before or after HD launch?

An ad for the steed was erroneously made part of the Farmer's Faire splashscreen.

O.O Only 16 alts, eh? Gee wiz, isn't it something like 2500 tokens per toon for the deeds?

Oh it's a store item. Did anyone catch a screenshot? Unless there's a prohibition against sharing before it's officially introduced.

Apparently folks at Turbine who are responsible for the festival calendar don't know anything about when things happen in real life(tm). Summer festival should be in late June or early July. Farmer's Faire should be during summer months, but probably around the 1st week of August would be best. Harvest festivals need to be in September, preferably around the Autumnal Equinox. It would be very easy to schedule one about every 6-7 weeks if they'd just line them up with the solstices / equinoxes. Spring needs to be around the Vernal Equinox, not in May. Yule needs to be around Dec. 22nd, preferably before and after. If they want to have a halloween thing, it needs to be around Oct 31st. Etcetera. You can have a Winter festival separate from Yule if you want to, but then it should be in February.

Currently there is no rhyme or reason to their events. It might be different if time passed in game, but it doesn't.

No, all we saw was a mention of it in the splash screen. No way of telling whether it is a store item or a barter item.

Who said it was a store item? I suspect that it's this years regular Harvest Festival mount.

The splashscreen only had the text; no actual picture of the mount.

Not necessarily true. RL location may play a part. I'm in the same general area as Turbine and I live out in the country. Not one single field has been plowed yet. Some parts of the fields are still green, in fact. Of course, some of that reason is because planting season is getting later as winter is taking longer to go away. Traditionally, harvest festivals come around the time of the harvest season, which has not truly arrived yet.

Furthermore, in the game one of the key activities is the haunted hobbit-hole, which fits in with a Halloween theme. Halloween is still almost a whole month away, and with festivals lasting roughly 2-3 weeks, I would not expect to see the Harvest Festival for at least another 2 weeks from now, so that it starts around a week before Halloween and goes until a week after Halloween (or some similar arrangement).

Whether we call them seasonal festivals (Spring Festival, Summer Festival, Fall/Autumn Festival, Winter Festival) or by their in-game names (Harvest Festival and Yule Festival, for example), so long as the event takes place during that season, it is technically not invalid. It would be silly, yes, but that's about it. Since Autumn lasts until December 21st, if Turbine really wanted to, they could just hold it off until then.

Of course, then we have the Helm's Deep xpac to take into consideration. They are undoubtedly gonna have the Harvest Festival well in advance (again, around Halloween) so that they can give players more opportunities to get the Bounder's Bounties (since that whole event is going away when Helm's Deep arrives).

Ah, now that makes sense - thanks for sharing. Thought it was a separate ad for the mount in the way that store items get singled out for advertisement, but yes now this points to it being a new festival reward. Looking forward!

Sounds nice on paper, but that just ruins a good friendship. I suggest blind dates and fake names.

I'm happy to see that the timing is going to work out just right for this year. Last year it was September 24 - October 14, which was disappointing. It kind of sucked to stand outside the Burrow on Halloween and just stare at a door closed until next year.

A person south of the tropic of capricorn would totally disagree with you.

One of the reason why real life (tm) should not have too much connection to happenings ingame, it is too complicated... ;-)

Same here. That's spring in Australia and South Africa.

Middle-earth was designed to roughly correspond to western Europe. So the northern hemisphere's dating schemes are perfectly valid in-game.

I do wish they'd be scheduled a bit more statically, though.

that's true, but one day in Snowborne I looked up at the moon in-game and realized something was off. the moon was upside down or as it would look from the Southern hemisphere. I haven't looked lately to see if it's still that way.
