World Transfers

Testing the service on Bullroarer makes allot of sense. Let us spread the word in our kins and on the servers we play on. Let's get as many people as we can to test the new service. Let us work with Turbine, to make the transfer transition as pleasant as possible.

2. I have lots of low-level alts which I log regularly, because they hold outfits and stuff. However, if someone from another server comes, is level capped and active, and finds their name taken because of one of those vault-alts, will I be able to rename it in favour of that incoming player? This was probably asked somewhere but couldn't find it, so sorry for repeating it.

Though if you submit a support ticket you might, be able to get them to add a -1 to the end of the affected characters names for free. You'd still have to buy a rename token if you wanted a proper name again but it would free them up.

The new Transfer Service will become available with this patch. You will be able to access it through the launcher at the World Selection screen after logging into your account. There will be a button that says “Transfer” underneath the “Play” button. Beginning August 3rd the service will be available for copying characters to the Bullroarer Test World. Free moves will begin later in August between the ten worlds (5 US and 5 EU) that will be remaining available after the end of this year. This is just the beginning of the process.


I guess we wait for 16.3 /1 or something.

I understand that a business needs to make a profit. I understand that sometimes cutbacks are needed. Today I found that my server (Riddermark) is one of the servers slated for closure. All my toons there have unique names that will easily transfer, minus one. Greystone. I looked on Landroval last night and found out that there is already a user there named Greystone. It also appears he/she was logged in this past April as a level 13. So, my question is this. As an almost 5 year user of that name on Ridder, why will I get punished for having to change servers?

You are not being punished for having to move. You did not take advantage of the opportunity to make characters on all available worlds and claim your name on them, which was open to you. I've been on Nimrodel for 5 years and Dwarrowdelf for 4 years. Not all of my names are going to make it, either; but that's life, for it was my decision to not claim my names then.

2) For those concerned that your server will be last to move, you can still create new characters on the remaining worlds. So you can still reserve character name, Kinship names, and houses using a new character or one already on a remaining world if this is a concern for you. One house per account per world, means your items from the previous world will just be added to your placeholder house once your server is opened for transfer.

It's good that we can reserve character names, etc. I have one question about "reserving" a house using a new character, though:
The account I've got a personal deluxe house on, is a premium account. I paid one month of VIP, and thus my Gold cap has been removed for the characters that existed at that moment. However..... My new character to reserve things with, didn't exist yet back than. Hence.... she has a gold cap. And thus I wouldn't be able to "reserve" my deluxe home unless I would pay another month of VIP.

Is there a way Turbine can help players who are forced to move with these kind of issues, i.e., remove gold cap for the placeholder character on the new server, so that the character can actually buy/reserve the house this way? (I'm on Nimrodel and thus forced to move). Same goes for Kinship houses (I know that would have to wait another 3 months, but still).

I guess you would have to pay 395TP for the account wide gold cap removal.

If you are/were VIP or Premium then you have 2 more character slots granted in this patch. If you are f2p then you have to buy another slot or delete a toon...

Yeah, That is possible.... But since Turbine forces us to move..... And Vyvyanna said we could "reserve" a house..... It would be nice if we could be granted those 395TP for gold cap removal. I know, the chances are slim to nothing, but couldn't hurt to ask, right

Looked under the button titled PLAY, and saw no button. No button that says Transfer, no button at all. It's. Just. Not. There.

I think you can do this without buying a rename, if the fates allow. Transfer Oldname off your current server to one where you can keep your name (one of the other surviving servers), create a new Oldname on the old server, then transfer the real character back to become Oldname-1 with a free rename token. Of course if your new name is not available on the old server but can be supplanted, you'll need to do another do-si-do to another server to bigfoot the new name there and then transfer back.

The potential chain looks like it can get pretty long. I looked into this for a whimsically-named character on an EU server whose name would not pass muster on Laurelin, but who has a Steed of the Hunter and a Dusk-watch, so I don't want to just mulch him. Looks like a lot of people also took this name on the top five EU servers, though, so it'll make it hard to do the transfer with name change delicately. The one on Laurelin is really old, so if I transferred there directly I'd get the unwanted name. Maybe I should do that, then send the GMs a challenge on the lore-inappropriate name.

Well, that would work, but the problem is when you want a name already taken. For example, suppose I am on Brandywine. Someone else is Oldname. When I originally transferred to Brandywine, I got Oldname-1. Rename tokens used to expire, so by now, that option is long gone (or I used it to get a different name entirely). But now that we can claim priority over names against inactive characters, suppose the current owner of Oldname hasn't logged in for 2 years. How can I get Oldname from them, since I'm already on the server? The name priority only applies during the transfer process. So somehow I have to get off Brandywine, change my name to Oldname, and then transfer back to push the current Oldname out of the way.

Ugh, what a mess. It's so convoluted it's hard to make heads or tails of it.
