One question:
I have a "placeholder" kinship with MY kinship name on Arkenstone.
How long after disbanding the placeholder kinship should I wait to initiate the transfer? Will it free up immediately?

It should be available almost immediately, but i would wait just a couple of minutes just to be sure.
Thank you, that is helpful. One more question:
I am quite proud of the "join date" of my leader character, as that is the creation date of the kinship. I am the founder, and I never left the kin, ever. It's in 2013, and the kinship is over 2 years old. Will this join date remain on the kinship list when I move the kin? Will others that have that kind of history retain the same join date when they migrate and re-join the kinship?

One detail I've not specifically seen mentioned that we are unable to test on Bullroarer as of yet, how are join dates handled, are original kinmates' join dates (back from 2010) retained?
PS: Along with that, will the kin list on the new world appear as it does on the old, complete with "retired" members, or will it appear only with those members who have transferred over as they arrive?

Since we cannot test this yet, and maybe will not ever be able to test it, I have a question. I have made placeholders on the remaining worlds to be able to know which of them will face name clashes. When the kinship leader moves, will these placeholders that have the main name held automatically be added to the relocated kinship? I am sure that I am not the only one that will see that scenario.

Your assumption doesn't answer the question, the list may show as it does now (good, with members dating back half a decade), or it may be blank except for the leader and those who have arrived, I'd like to know which ahead of time to be able to prepare my members to screen shot the kin list prior to move, if folks who haven't played since 2010 will not be displayed despite their ability to return at any time in the future to join us in our new digs (some of which have in the past, returned after multiple years of absence).

No. That is a completely separate kinship that just happens to have the same name.
You need to disband the kinship before you move, and then make the move a few minutes later (see Frelorn's response below). The kinships will not "merge". If you don't disband your placeholder kinship, your migrating kinship will be named "Kinship Name-1".
The right steps would be:
1) disband the placeholder kinship.
2) Log out of the server that kinship is on, then log in to your old server.
3) transfer the existing kinship to the new server by transfering your leader. ONLY transfer your leader, none of your other characters for now.
4) log in on new server, test kinship, see if it is there, etc. (You should be alone until the first other characters transfer in).
5) log out, log in again and transfer the rest of your characters that are members.

That doesn't mean Frelorn knows everything. If there are questions, he needs to go back to that project member (or other team member) and get the right info. Saying that he doesn't know and that he needs to check back with his colleagues is the right approach. He also wants to make sure he gives the CORRECT answer, i'm sure.

Milarien Cardhra of Lorien (Minstrel), various other Mils et al(Minstrel: The Tootsie Roll Pop of Middle Earth!)Ring Guard of Rivendell (Gladden, formerly of Elendilmir), founded in beta (on Meneldor)
Milarien, et al (Hunter, Minstrel, Rune-keeper)
Better Biscuit Bureau (Treebeard)
Will the "founder" title also transfer for the character who originally founded the kinship?
What about an edge case where the founder is no longer a member, the kinship transfers, and the former-member (and founder) then follows the kinship and rejoins?
Put another way: Currently, a former-member who is the founder of the kinshp gets the founder title back after he returns to the kinship. Would this still be the case after both the kinship and non-member founder transfer to the same server?
Best,
H
While I don't agree with Snowlock's criticism, logic compels me to point out that he surely meant that Turbine should have anticipated this question and either answered it in the dev diary or had the answer ready and at the CM's fingertips.
My own feeling, however, is. . . we're not splitting the atom here. Everyone's doing a decent job and this project seems to have been handled very well so far. So chill.![]()

Placeholder characters that are not members of a kin will not become members of a kin.
Names have nothing to do with it, the ID of the character (not shown to players) is what associates someone with a kinship.
So, if you have a character with X name on the new server as a placeholder, and you have a character with X name on an old server in a kin, when that kin leader moves, the kin disbands on the old server. When X from old goes to new, it becomes X-1 and is in the kin again. X remains unaffected/unassociated. If you delete X and rename X-1 to X, then voilà, you are back to how you were on the originating server.

Well, if they're working with a PM, part of the PM's job is to manage a communication plan. That would be included if the PM new his stuff, and new about the game. It looks very obvious that there are experienced people on this project, but not experienced project managers. Maybe as part of the data center move (hopefully, almost certainly) but not this piece and there should be. These are easy questions to anticipate (actually, risks) by someone who is trained and experienced in anticipating questions (risks).
Phrasing! Doesn't anybody do phrasing anymore?
Thanks for a quick reply. It is not a big deal, but we have an alt in our kin that has not been played in 8 years and it is just a fun thing to keep seeing the "Days since log-in" keep counting up. I am hoping this means when he gets transferred he will keep his count running
