    OK, next:

This character spent most of his youth under-cover using false identities.

OK, next one (sorry for the delay).

This creature's name is probably based on a Roman god of the underworld.

(edit: I don't mean a personal name like "Bob" or "Boraxxe", but the name of the species like "human" or "Three-toed Sloth".

    Time for a hint:

In regards to this Tolkien wrote: "...not to be connected with...a name applied to various sea-beasts..."

I had quite a journey with this one although it should have been clear from the start. For some crazy reason I got stuck with a wrong Roman god of the underworld

Who are Orcs, soldiers of the Dark Lord?

    You got it!
I was worried I would end up with a long list of hints for this one.

    From Wikipedia:
Orcus was a god of the underworld, punisher of broken oaths in Italic and Roman mythology.

    HINT TIME !!!

Tolkien himself, back when in World War 1, was sick with trench fever & had called this collection of stories by this name, later to be called The Simarillion.
