Hints & Tips for Draigoch

Draigoch is the newest Raid boss in The Lord of the Rings Online™, and he's quite the challenge! This guide contains a variety of suggestions, tips and hints designed to help players new to this 12 or 24-person Raid find success when facing the grisly dragon.

Note: Draigoch is only available to LOTRO players level 75 .

A Smattering of Hints & Tips

The following hints and tips have been designed to provide a spoiler-free assist for LOTRO players stuck or finding difficulty when facing Draigoch.

While journeying towards the dragon's lair, you may see a warm light (pictured above). It's rumored that many have been fooled by this inviting light, never to be heard or seen again.

There's a safe area waiting beyond the path where Draigoch searches; a raid can safely gather here until everyone is ready.

Draigoch is a habitual creature when it comes to moving from perch to perch; heroes who pay attention to these habits will find success when fighting the dragon.

Battling massive dragons requires a significant amount of cooperation; heroes would do well to designate a leader and follow their orders.

Draigoch's breath attack is a hot wave of fire and unpleasantness. Watch closely for tell-tale signs the dragon is about to cough up a big wave of fire.

Suggested LOTRO Store Items

While use of these items is entirely optional, we've put together a short-list for any players interested in getting an edge in the fight against the mighty Draigoch.

  • Morale Potion (Tier 8): Drinking this potion restores 576-720 Morale initially, then 120-150 Morale every 2 sec for 10 seconds.  This potion can be used simultaneously with crafted morale potions and the effects of both will stack. Cooldown is 20 seconds.
  • Power Potion (Tier 8): Drinking this potion restores 576-720 Power initially, then 120-150 Power every 2 sec for 10 seconds. This potion can be used simultaneously with crafted power potions and the effects of both will stack. 20sec Cooldown.
  • Regenerative Food (Tier 8): Eating food increases Morale & Power regeneration rates: 185 in-Combat Power, 250.5 in-Combat Morale, 4044 non-Combat Morale, 3240 non-Combat Power. Effects last 5 minutes.
  • +5 Hope Token (30 min): Increase Hope by +5 for 30 minutes. Hope provides players with more Healing, Damage and Morale as well as combating the negative effects of Dread.

Class Equipment Suggestions

Below you'll find a list of what character stats to favor for each class. In Rise of Isengard the Skirmish system now rewards the first four pieces of Tier 1 raid armor, making it even easier to start experiencing high-level content.

Armour Up!

Use the Skirmish system to earn Superior Fourth Marks and barter them to acquire four pieces of tier 1 raid armour. (Hint: Many of these armours will meet the below criteria for each class!)

  • Champions: Wear equipment with Might for improved Melee Offense and Physical Mitigation and look for extra Vitality (when possible) to add Morale. Guardians: Prioritize equipment with Vitality (adds extra Morale). Ideally, a Guardian's morale will be over 12k without buff spells.
  • Hunters: Prioritize Agility to improve Ranged Offense and then focus on Vitality to get Morale to (hopefully) around 9k without buff spells.
  • Burglars: Prioritize equipment with Agility to improve Melee Offense and look for extra Vitality to snag some additional Morale.
  • Captains: Wear equipment with Might to improve Melee Offense and, ideally, equipment that also improves your Heal rating.
  • Lore-masters: Prioritize Will to boost your Tactical Offense and then Vitality for that tasty Morale.
  • Rune-keepers (Healing): Prioritize Will for a boost to Healing; having at least one dedicated healer (Minstrel or Rune-keeper) is essential to successfully defeating Draigoch.
  • Rune-keepers (Damage): Prioritize Will for the Tactical Offense increase, and then look for Jewellery with Vitality to raise Morale.
  • Wardens: Prioritize equipment with Vitality so that Morale is (ideally) over 12k without buffing spells.
  • Minstrels: Prioritize Will to boost Healing and Tactical Offense; having at least one dedicated healer (Minstrel or Rune-keeper) is essential to successfully defeating Draigoch.

Suggested Virtue Traits

Click here for a refresher on Traits and Deeds. Ideally, if you're joining a 24-person raid group, all of the below Virtue Traits should be Rank 12 when you go to fight Draigoch.

  • All Classes: Justice, Valour, Zeal and Innocence
  • Wardens: Loyalty
  • Guardians: Loyalty
  • Hunters: Determination
  • Loremasters: Wisdom
  • Burglars: Determination
  • Champions: Discipline
  • Minstrels: Wisdom
  • Captains: Discipline
  • Rune-Keepers (Healing): Wisdom
  • Rune-Keepers (Damage): Wisdom

We hope you found these hints and tips helpful in preparing you for Draigoch. Remember – even armed with this knowledge, dragons are dangerous creatures that don't go down without a fight.
