What are skirmishes?

Skirmishes allow you to instantly dive into adventure with friends or customizable AI Soldiers in scalable instanced battles. When you start a Skirmish you're transported into a scenario with a specific setting and objectives, such as defending the Prancing Pony in Bree-town or braving the shadows of the dead in the Barrow Downs. Skirmishes even feature random boss fights to add variety to each new fight!

You can personalize the difficultly and scope of your Skirmish, and play them as much as you want, when you want, where you want.

When and How can I play a Skirmish?

In LOTRO, once you reach level 20 you receive a piece of in-game mail directing you to the Skirmish camp near Bree-town. You're only required to go to a Skirmish camp at this time to complete the tutorial; otherwise Skirmishes can be started from any non-instanced area in Middle-earth.

Why should I be interested in Skirmishes?

Skirmishes grant experience, making them a great leveling alternative if you don’t want to quest.

As you complete Skirmish objectives you also earn gold and marks. Marks can be spent to upgrade your character or their Soldier in various ways.

Marks can be redeemed for armour, weapons, crafting shards, jewelry, single-use recipes, reputation items, cosmetic items, decorations, relics and both minor and major class quest items.

Marks are also used to build your Soldier into a more effective combat companion by unlocking a variety of active and passive abilities that you can equip on them.
