What does F2P mean to PvMP? :/

I'm concerned about the PvMP community with the announcement of Free to Play. What kind of effect do you think it will have on Monster Play? Before this turns into a complaint thread, I encourage those who may have a positive spin to speak up. I can't think of any. :/

It just means i'm going to have to work the streets of bree with my black horse for coin.

Ok that sounded entirely too wrong.

    Fewer creeps?

Seriously though, I'm unclear as to whether it's strictly monster players that's affected by the FTP thing, or if they bar non VIP freeps from entering the moors too. There are lots of creeps out there that are lifers, so I think we'll still see a few vets. Probably less casual creepies though.

Re: What does F2P mean to PvMP? :/

well im not sure it matters terribly. if a player is totally f2p meaning they didnt purchase any updates, their level cap will be 50 and they dont have access to creep side. i wouldnt expect raids of level 50 freeps to be running around.

so unless they purchase, which means they are investing in the game, i wouldnt expect much of a difference. now if they purchase all that means is the community goes up a bit, which depending on the server is good or bad i suppose. but we shouldnt have rampant kids running around in the moors, or not for too long as being level 50 in the moors isnt too fun.

Nothing really is going to change, you just wont have Trial-account greenies running around.

Besides that - I think everything will stay the same, maybe a little more focus on PvP? *crosses fingers*

Oh my good lord... they do not know what they have done. It is like having open season on rookies in PVMP. If I read this right a freep can get as high as 50 with only 2 traits availible... in other words worm food in the moors. The kicker is that while they can still roll a creep and play as a 65 monster, they can only EARN, not SPEND Destiny points. So green dots apply only please. Please my brothers and sisters on both sides warmly welcome the poor fodder that these free players will become.

The lag is going to be horrible, and note they allude to you VIP people getting first crack at logging in to the game. What have you done Turbine? Do you think your servers can handle this? We lag on E now, start feeding the squirrels the premium blend food now, they are going to need it.

...maybe my eyes deceive me when I read the VIP faq sheet, but if I did, it said "monster play" is unavailable to anything other than VIP. Or maybe there is contradicting statements in some of the other Q/A links.

Just checked, yea still showing unavailable. I think creep side will be safe from influx, i think you will see a lot more weak freeps in the moors, unless they too are barred from pvp....which would be interesting.

Unless you are a VIP you can not participate in monster play at all freep or creep. So unless you are a lifetimer or a subscriber you can not enter the Ettenmoors.

This must be their solution to fixing lag in the 'moors. Reduce population.

This won't have any impact on PMVP. I'm still going *sublimate creeps and get *explodinated.

Frelorn cleared it up nice and simple. We will not being seeing an influx of lvl 50 freeps or 65 greenies into the moors that are F2P accounts.

VIP are pretty much the peeps that play now, and will play later. The new comers will be assimilated into the moors should they subscribe, like all of us currently.

Thank you SO MUCH for clarifiying this. Would it be possible to amend the VIP Chart to make this fact clearer?

Perhaps instead of saying "Monster Play" it could read "PvMP Combat" or "Ettenmoors Access".

Re: What does F2P mean to PvMP? :/

Imo it should be great for pvmp future. When new pvmp content is released, a small fee $5-$10 will be required to enter the new map/pvmp armor/traits/etc. This will show the popularity of pvmp and accumulate some income, and just like any company receiving income for a specific branch of product etc, they most likely continue to expand as long as its popular and earning its keep.

From this platform, anything under the sun is possible so long the people continue to play. Also if a new map was made which even VIP players had to pay for, it will show the real numbers for pvmp. Once those numbers across servers is tallied and population realized, a completely unique pvmp server could be created to accommodate...well maybe not, just an idea that anything is possible under this new system.

At least lotro will now have the selling point as the greatest F2P game online = more people = more money = good for pvmp.

This is what I am afraid of...I don't want to see less freeps or less creeps. Greenies are necessary to the lifeblood of the game.

Also, I certainly hope Turbine adds content to the Moors if they expect people to pay for it. I don't want to see it dry up because everyone gets to a high rank with no new blood and no new content.

If you like chocolate, and one shop sells the best - id pay a little more for it.

If they gain more money from pvmp, they'll continue to pour money back into it and a great cycle begins. In the past, lotro wasnt able to clearly see how much income was possible from pvmp but now they do.

Imo, this will make or break pvmp - but my guess is many former players will be keen on seeing whats on offer and pay.

Soooooo, can we finally get a quote from one of you guys how this would benefit the PvMP in the long run? I mean whats your solution to bring in new players to the moors, now when its locked even for a sneak peak? Something you had the option to do as a trial account wont exist anymore as far as Ive understood it.

That's fair, which was my biggest issue with the change (it sounded like creeps had to pay, freeps didn't).

Hopefully this means you'll put compelling incentive for both sides to play, in order to lure new customers to PvMP as well as keep those on the fence from just dropping to Premiums and abandoning PvMP due to the lack of reward for freeps and quality of life for creeps.

Re: What does F2P mean to PvMP? :/

Why not allow Premium accounts to PvMP. I think it would be genius if you sold PvMP ONLY accounts on the store. You can purchase a lvl 65 freep with PvMP armor, weapons, etc and you can only play that toon in the Moors. If you want capped traits, that will cost you extra. Then you would really have a divide in populations. The PvE people can do their thing and the PvMP people can do our thing.

However a purchased PvMP freep would not be as strong as a capped PvE freep this way you don't take the advantage away from VIP members. The raid armor, loot jewelry, etc will still have better stats than the PvMP gear you obtain when you buy a PvMP slot.

Just an idea for another revenue source for Turbine. Guild Wars does this for free but Turbine could charge a fee at their online store.
