    3rd Age random drops

    Hi, newb question.
I get a lot of random LI drops for other classes, and since there is no vendor value and they don't sell on AH, I have just destroyed them from my inventory. Is there any use for them at all if not for my class?

Also, I've filled my slots with random drops for my class. Is it best to decon them at 11 or keep them going for longer?

    Thanks for any help.

The ones you can't use, Identify them and deconstruct them for relics.

The ones for your class, if you have the slots spare you might as well level them in the background, the higher level they are the more and better relics you can get back when deconstructing.

the items u can't use - for sure u can't slot them, identify price is to high, so yes, delete them or try AH. if the item fits u, then slot it and lvl to 60 lvl, then deconstruct.

If they're not for your class, have them identified and then deconstruct them. You'll get a free T1 relic from it.

As to the others, it depends on what you're going for. If you want Item XP runes and relics, then leveling them to 11 and deconstructing them is your best course for the fastest reward. As you progress (especially in Moria) you'll pick up so many LIs and items that can be bartered for LIs (Khuzdul Tablets, Rusted Dwarf Tools, etc) that you'll never be able to use them all. I still have dozens of each.

On the other hand, if you level the LI to 31 you will also get scrolls back, one of which will be for a LI legacy from that weapon (that you choose) that can be used to replace a legacy on another LI that you don't want. That can be handy later in the game when you're customizing the legacies on your LI. You'll also get more relics and higher tier relics, and a larger item XP rune, but if you're after relics then 11 is where to decon.

3As not for your class will usually yield one T1 relic on decon, which is better than nothing. It's true that identifying them costs some silver, but there's a lot of money in this game; by the time you're using LIs, silver is probably not an issue. Having said that, you'll get more and better relics from quest rewards, repeatables and especially instances, so it really depends on whether you feel like hanging onto them till you reach a forge-master and spending the time to decon. They're always the first thing I'll destroy if I need the inventory space for a better drop.

Spares for your own class can be background levelled as mentioned above, but be aware that the IXP you receive from quests and mob kills is divided between all your slotted LIs, so your main weapons will be slower to level if you have others slotted. This will be less of an issue when you start getting some decent IXP runes, which will help level your weapons much faster than questing alone.

If you level a spare LI to 31 or over, you can choose one of its legacies to extract when deconning, which you can then use to replace a legacy on another weapon. (Major legacies can only go in a major slot; minors can go in either, but can't subsequently be replaced with a major.) The extracted legacies will usually have a maximum level (equip level, that is, not item level) at which they can be used, so whether it's worth doing this depends on what level your next weapon is likely to be.

    Hope this is some help!

Thanks Arty for raising this thread and thanks for all the replies here. I knew some of this stuff about LI's but not all of it so found this very informative. Especially answers from kmcferrin and Adastrea Good stuff. Cheers

Thank you so much for your help folks.

A lot clearer now on how it works!

Good point about the level of the extracted legacy. pretty annoying to take an LI to 31 only to find it's legacies are no use on my next weapon. Is it possible to check what it will go to beforehand? If I've levelled a 53 sword to 31 but moved on to a 55 or 57 by then, will they be useless?

I haven't enough experience to say this is always the case, but so far it has seemed that extracted legacies are valid up to the next increment of 5 levels (55, 60, 65 etc). So a legacy extracted from a level 55-59 weapon (equip level, not item level) can be used on a max lvl 60 weapon; 60-64 gets you a legacy good till 65, etc. Open to correction on this though.

I level the LIs, if a slot is free, to lvl 60 and deconstruct them. You can store the atributes, but consider, as above mentioned, they are just usabla for a max LI level, depending on the LI they are taken from.

If you destroy a lvl 85 3rd age LI with max level you can get xp runes between 300-900k and some tier 7 relics. I keep the 800 and 900k ones in storage and use the smaller ones for the next LI. This way you can max your 2nd/ 1st age LIs with one xp rune to lvl 30+, change the attributes to the ones you desire and keep leveling the LI to max.

The benefit from changing the attributes after reaching lvl 30 is, that you can raise the desired attributes while leveling your LI, not the random and maybe undesired ones.

Furthermore you will have the needed relics for your LI.
lvl 85 lm (main), lvl 85 champ, lvl 85 rk, lvl 85 hunter, lvl 85 minni
