Looking at the new list of account wide mounts I ask if you already have purchased one of these mounts will they automatically become account wide or is it only for new purchases?

I dance for cookies!
They will not become account wide. All account wide pricing has been different in the past as opposed to a single mount price.
Example: I have bought the fleet-footed goat on three (maybe even four) characters in the past, but I don't have it on any of my 7 characters on the Legendary Server, nor on my 18 other alts elsewhere that do not have the goat.... I don't expect my 3 goat purchases to "convert" to account wide.
I am however excited to buy that goat account wide! My characters already get 17 horses each upon creation (some from pre-order bonuses, some from special events, some from purchases), but none of them is a goat....so this will be #18, and it will be a goat!

Where are you guys seeing new account wide mounts?
Will our payment for character-only versions of these mounts be refunded upon purchase of same account-wide mount -- as it should? -.-
In any other business model this would go without asking, but LOTRO has proved to be frought with greed. And! It's not difficult to accurately refund the cost of individually purchased mounts; I just know it won't happen. But it should - we're talking about our REAL money payed out for these things; money that keeps SSG in business.
Tread carefully SSG...

I'm thrilled about this addition and hope we get more account versions of the store horses (+ warsteed colors please!!!), but yeah, the originals should absolutely be refunded.
Some of the mounts listed are also bundled. Its the mount and matching warsteed cosmetics for a single character. It is doubtful they will expand previously purchased to account wide, though I'd love if they did. LOL More warsteed cosmetics!
It is funny that many of the ones currently discounted are also ones that will now have Account-wide versions.
It is logical, in view of the times in which we live. But to be logical is not to be right, and nothing on God's earth could ever make it right!

I'm not sure why you would expect this to happen, or why you say "as it should". It doesn't happen out in the real world, and I doubt very much it will happen in this game. If I buy an item, let's say a TV in a store, and later they offer that TV with a sound system as a bundle, I'm not going to get the price of my TV deducted if I decide to buy the bundle, and they are not going to reduce the price of the bundle so that I can buy only the sound system.
They reduce the price of quest packs, and bundle them up over the years, but nobody gets refunded the difference later on. They bundle mounts up into packs quite often, and that doesn't mean you get the price of one mount in the bundle deducted if you have already purchased it.
As someone who bought steed of the hunter a very long time ago on a single character, then later bought all class steeds, on an account bound basis, I can confirm, there are no point rebates.
Sometimes, no matter how hard you look, there is no best light.
It's not real money. It's Lotro Points. You could have gotten them without a single penny spent. I've deeded so much in the last 4-5 weeks or so, I probably got 1500-ish points from in-game rewards. And that is the thing with virtual currency, you can BUY virtual currency with real money, but it isn't WORTH any real money. If you decide to stop playing for whatever reason, they don't become something you could sell to someone else for real money. As a matter of fact, you don't actually legally OWN the points, you merely "lease" them from SSG. They own everything, including all those goats....
I bought 3 goats in years past, and 1 goat during the recent sale. You bet I won't get my points of those purchases refunded. And while there are businesses that would be kind enough to refund you the sale difference when something goes on sale, there are plenty of other businesses that don't. I actually asked this question to SiriusXM. I was ticked off that a year's subscription was so expensive, so I decided to cancel it.... then on the phone they offered me a deal, which was like 75% off the price I paid. I said okay.... how about I get that discount applied to the year I just paid a few months back..... but nope. That was paid, that was done. It would apply for the NEXT period of 1 year. I told them to go stuff themselves, and I cancelled my account.
And with that said, I bought the fleet footed goat account wide.
This was a community wish by the way, the community have been wanting more account wide horses for a while.

Why? You want to see players purchase something twice? Even if new mounts counts as new purchases, it's still same mounts what some players already have.
I'm glad that there are more account-wide mount options now and (hopefully more to come) but the timing is a bit - let's say - unfortunate - with some of the single mounts on sale and now the new account-wide option.
I prefer account wide mounts but I don't pay for the same mount twice on the same account.
An upgrade option from single mount to account-wide mount would be nice and something I would gladly pay for for some mounts.

They would likely make MORE money by not making the horses account wide.
I have 25 or so toons on Arkenstone (4 of which have the fleet-footed goat)
I have 7 toons on Anor (1 of which has the fleet-footed goat from the recent sale).
If they DID NOT put this goat in the account wide option, I would likely spend a lot more on getting this goat on other characters. Now that they released it as account wide, I am done. I will never have to purchase that white goat ever again. There is a very good chance I would have bought this goat for some future characters on Anor, especially now that Moria will be coming our way in a few months....
Having the option available likely SAVES players money, and SSG probably could have made MORE money by keeping horses as a single purchase.
Am I bummed I just bought 1 goat on sale only to be presented with the account-wide option afterwards? Yes. If I had known ahead of time, I would have waited.
Do I really care in the long run? No, I immediately jumped on the account-wide goat, and called it a day.
