Re: Rise of Isengard Update/Patching Discussion - OFFICIAL
Well it's a good thing I have an interview to occupy my time :)
Even though I am jonesin' to try out my Champion uber beast tank face melter I think getting the money to pay for the game comes first ;)
I think it's funny that not only did Turbine release the patch a day earlier that people think this is the only company this happens to. I remember FFXI, WAR and WoW having absolutely crazy wait times. I recall an entire day's wait (24 hours exactly) from when I got to patch FFXI once to actually play it.
Don't panic. There's other stuff to do on the interwebs!

But the funny thing is, that even if the game worlds went online now, I'd still not be able to log in, as I cannot get past Connect on the launcher, even if my client is patched :P
This is gonna be an interesting day :D
On the other hand, if the game worlds were opened, perhaps the lucky people would get out of the 'Patch server queue' and free up room for others?
If you are patched, please do not continue to try and log into the game. The game is unavailable. We will announce when the servers are live. Ever time you open the launcher it connects to the patch server to validate that you have the latest version. If you are patched, and still hitting the patch server you are probably taking up resources that someone who has not patched would really like to use.

I just hope they're not being unfair and are throttling certain IP ranges (US first, EU 2nd).

Big lol, why don't you recall times with abacus? Or midnight oil? :))
Today we have another world around. It is just your pipe is too narrow, this is the reason :)
I am in Internet since the beginning of 90-ies, so I know the difference :) We started then with BBS's and dial-up modems 1200 baud. Now I have 100 Mbit to world and what?

well then they should learn not to break they stuff, cause it worked great for me ... but of course at that time i only had access to dial-up :(

Been trying since 1pm GMT, and the launcher is stuck at Connect. why cant those of us in the EU connect to the patching server?

Oh yes, that too ... those 300/1200 baud modems, even sending colors would have slowed gaming but there even the ultra modern graphic games with ibm graphic charset and ansi colors in the best bbs! :D

Re: Rise of Isengard Update/Patching Discussion - OFFICIAL
first of all this isant a patch day, patch days are 6-7 hrs of downtime
this is an expansion day and the first of its size since proberly moria released.
expansions are usually 10-15 hrs downtime. usually starting at 3 am - 5 am US time. so dont expect much b4 3 pm US time

Nobody needs to re-download the client.
All you'd be doing is using valuable bandwith.

Why are there so many issues this time compared to the other expansions? Is there really that huge of an increase in players from Enedwaith to now? I have never heard of this many people having this problem on patch day. It sounds to me like somethings wrong and you guys just can't fix it yet.

We got the prepatch in Europe for Mirkwood release, I didn't hear any moaning about broken installs. If you're worried that people would use the patch before servers go down for update, then I think it could be solved by some sort of date/time check, or even online status check before it lets them proceed and update. I don't know how Codemasters did it back then, but believe me they were highly praised for doing it.

How do we know if we're patched?

Okies.
I'm no tech expert, nor am I privvy to how your servers work, which I reckon goes for most people, so maybe it is a good idea to put what you just wrote on the launcher?

How can I check if I'm patched or not?

Agree. This is getting on my nerves as well. Forget the damn contest for a minute. Drop everything and sort this mess out! Nearly four hours in limbo here.
Successful attempts to connect thus far: 0/240. What a farce.

..Which skin is this, and is there a link to download it?
Is it possible the game-servers themselves are up, but the they're not ready as the login gls-auth-server (which you must hit FIRST) is down?
I believe these sites just use the same status information generally available when you get past the autheticated login, the same way we could see whether or not bullroarer was up, down, open to people in IsenBeta, or just TurbineEmployees ;) (no I'm not about to list all of the appropriate tokens here, TurbineEmployees was a generalization)
Perhaps they should query the auth server to determine if it is infact up as well? Just a thought.

Yep I remember 300 baud modems. I could type faster than it could transmit :) and I do remember running and playing text based games on BBS systems. I even remember when the internet was opened to the general public.

It was actually rather quick. Most of the time I was downloading at my maximum bandwidth, which is about 10mb. I'm afraid I didn't take much notice of the actual time, but I'd say in the ballpark of 15m, 30 minutes tops.
No idea about the size, apart from it being 6200 files. They all went by really quick.

I doubt there are any more issues, it's just that the EU players are on here complaining too, instead of on the Codemasters forums where they were 'out of sight, out of mind'.

Moria? Not even close.
More like Enedwaith or Mirkwood.

It's not just EU players. I've never heard of anyone having this issue repeatedly for hours come patch/expansion day, especially not multiple people(Looks like a couple hundred on the forums at least, and there's a good chunk of us in vent). Something different is up this time it would seem.
