Would the answer to the second riddle be Formenos? If I recall correctly Finwe was slain be Melkor (the Darkness that entered there) during the theft of the Silmarils (the great treasure) from Formenos (with Finwe being the lord of the Noldor to the tune of 9000 years he'd qualify as a great lord).


I'm still chewing on the others but I haven't given up yet!

Yes, there are many places with treasures and lords being stolen and slain, but none of the guesses have yet happened during a time of celebration. I thought that riddle was going to be easy... maybe I'll give you guys a little more time with it and if you can't guess it I'll give you a hint.

LA I concur with a guess made by someone yesterday, (can't remember who sorry) for your riddle:

The guess was Forlong the Fat. He came to Rohan's aid at the pelennor fields, was probably pretty sure he wouldnt win hehe, and he was famously great in girth:) ...not sure about the red serpent...
anyway im not taking credit for the guess, can't remember who originally said it:(

oh and I must celebrate my 100th post....again woohoo

Well I believe the red serpent is the standard of the Harradrim, to whom I believe Forlong fell. So I think you're correct.

That was my guess. I guess the reply got lost in the forum rollback (I assume that was what happened to my posts yesterday). The red serpent was the banner of the Easterlings, whose king Theoden killed in battle - which is why my first guess was Theoden.

The answer is indeed Earendil's ship, Vingilot, the "Foam Flower" hehe
made from the birchwoods, (white trees)
bearing the silmaril brought to Earendil by his wife elwing in swan shape (flame from white winged bride)
the dark trackless sea being the night sky
the garden being valinor
etc..

anyway well done as usual:)
