Uh, Fredegar Bolger? That would explain the "not light on his feet" part, even though most hobbits are.
Except, no, he's isn't named for white.
hmmm.

Named because of white and named again when he got whiter,
Put into storage cold and dark though he was an eater not a fighter.
Couriers came and went at his word -- he led quick ones though not light on his feet,
His second name came when he went through disaster looking good enough to eat.
OK, I guess it's time to tell the answer for this one: it's Will Whitfoot, the Mayor of Michel Delving.
Named because of white: "whit" in "Whitfoot" is derived from "white."
Named again when he got whiter: after the Town Hole's ceiling fell in and covered him with chalk he was given the nickname "Flourdumpling."
Put into storage: Lotho had him mprisoned in the Lockholes, which were formerly storage tunnels.
He was an eater, not a fighter: Until he was imprisoned, he was the fattest Hobbit in the Westfarthing. (This is also why he was "not light on his feet.")
Couriers and "quick ones:" he was the Postmaster and, by extension, head of the Quick Post.
Went through disaster looking good enough to eat: another reference to the "Flourdumpling" incident.
Here is another one that should be somewhat easier:
Blood-stained, burned, slashed and cut, but still near my Lord I waited,
Twenty years and four, in silent room, with years of dust freighted.
At return of folk to ancestral home, by a Dwarf I was created,
But this return was doomed to fail, to fall to enemy hated.
So to Chamber I came and there I stayed 'til seen by another ill-fated --
Stories I told and grief I brought but curiosity I sated.
SL
Ahhh Will Whitfoot, that was a good one, to be certain.
I believe your new riddle refers to the Book of Mazarbul, the journal of the dwarven expedition to reclaim Moria.
We'd all be bored out of our wits if not for SL. I'll try to come up with a riddle sometime soon.
OK, here's another quickie:
That which was endless ended at me,
That which was immortal was cast down from me,
I who was lost was found then destroyed,
Upon the high silver when grey faded to white.
SL
Durin's Tower it is. I knew the whole "grey into white" thing would give it away.
SL
Darkness, absence, empty, alone,
Here evil did search in vain,
When at last 'twas overthrown,
In here it was cast again.
I shine after the manner of the moon and stars,
And through them alone I am seen,
Though I am not easily seen from afar,
A great welcome to friends I have been.
Sorry for these rather easy riddles I've been posting lately, hopefully I can come up with a more challenging one later.
been away too long:( wow lots of great riddles, keep em coming!
i wish i had gotten SL's Whil Whitfoot riddle, I was determined to guess it but it stumped me, even with all the hints.
/hangs head in shame,
/bows to Silverlocket's riddle-ness
who's up next? SdaorssOrc? J2me?
Here's a silly one:
You wanna see stuff? I got stuff to see.
You can't have it, because somebody wants it, but they loaned it all to me.

Okay okay, I've finally come up with on that I'm not embarrassed to post. Hope it's not too easy.
Tavern gossip, local fool
Fells the tree, a wizard's tool
When travelers return to stay
He blows his horn and runs away
I agree with SL's guess; Ted Sandyman. Nice riddle SdaorssOrc:)
and for SL's... a mannequin:D lol
Bah. You are both correct. I'll try to make the next one a little more of a challenge. :)
