Yule Encore?

The Event Schedule has been updated, but we're still working on a bunch of bonuses for the first quarter and beyond, so expect more to be added in the coming weeks.
Woot! Encore!
\o/
Thanks.
Normally (the last 2 or 3) Encores are 2 or 3 weeks after the main event, this one is one month and a half... Im asking, with respect, why?
I play festivals with 26 characters, all parked, during the event time, near the festival questgivers. When festival end i maintain the characters in the same place (and not the "normal" one for each character) because the encore is near, but now encore is a very long time after the event...
Of course i can to live with it, im only asking if there is a motivation.
Sergio :-)
I was specifically looking for the Yule Festival Encore. I don't care when it is, though waiting will probably be torture. :) It's my favorite festival of the whole year, and I look forward to it. All of my characters are still parked in Winterhome and probably will stay there until late Feb. I can't wait!
I have updated the Events Schedule for weekly events through the end of March, and put in the seasonal festivals and Hobnanigans through the rest of 2018. We will populate the schedule further to include more events later.
I just cannot believe that this April, LOTRO is 11 years old. I cannot believe that I've also been playing this game for 11 years. Never took a break and never played any other online game. I feel old.
Can we get the Fashion Maven event back?? I need the Hat of Shame and the Eye-Sore title!!!
I understand completely how hard it is to have an Event that's not really an event and have the staff on hand etc...
I have personal motive, I need my Eye-Sore title! LOL
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/lx...U=w581-h755-no
I know this isn't exactly the best place to post this query, but LOTRO events seem to be a lot better organised/viewed than DDO (probably because they are so much better) so I figured it had more chance of being seen here.
Is there any chance of getting (or being pointed towards) a similar easily read list of events planned for DDO? The DDO "Master Event Calendar" seems defunct containing only livestreams and I cannot find anything similar to this listing anywhere on the DDO Forum. Just a nice easy list of event names and start/end dates/times so we can plan ahead. Hopefully this will also clearly allow us to see that the bigger LOTRO events will NOT cross paths with the DDO ones (particularly the Anniversaries) so that those of us that play both games can get involved in all events without having to give up sleep.
TIA.
If this is on the cards, any chance of bringing back the Best House in the Neighbourhood too?
Perhaps you could run these occasionally on your +Cord of the Rings stream? :D
Thank you for updating - especially the time conversion tool is greatly appreciated since there tends to be confusion about the correct Austrian time with/without daylight saving time^^ Can you add this to downtime notices, too? That would be awesome!
Player-run events are not really relevant to me, personally, but I'm sure it's nice for people who do those. Probably quite confusing without a calendar.
Hey show some more love for game supporters no more VIP Event Boost weekends after 3/12 ? that needs to be every other month.
Thanks for posting the dates up. :)
Are there any plans for doing meta-quests for the other festivals like the Spirit of Yule one up in Frostbluff?
I know this is a bit early to ask, but what are the odds we'll get a Spring Festival encore?
Just trying to plan out how many tokens I need to earn per day in order to get all the cool things I'd like to get for my main and my alts.
Any idea when the events schedule will be updated next? It was last updated through the end of March and we're almost halfway through April. :) Been hoping to find out if we'll have another VIP weekend.
Good to hear that the schedule will be updated soon. :)
With more than the typical RL chaos over the last few weeks and the Festival Stomping Ground being overrun even at nights I could do with a Spring Festival encore. Please consider upgrading the token rewards for other festival activities to give an alternative to the stomping.
At this time schedule is still going (today start +25% extra exp(unfortunately for me)) but for a week, I think we need update. Personally I hope for Anniversary and Summer Fest encores (no for Spring) Second my hope we be know about encores b4 half main part these events ;)
The LOTRO Events Schedule has been updated. We would also say that we're tentatively planning to add a Spring Festival Encore due to community interest, probably after the anniversary event but before the summer festival, exact time/date TBA.
Thanks for updating the schedule! I love the timing of the VIP boost. I can take Thursday and Friday off and push my chars through Mordor over the holiday weekend. :)
Thanks for the update and the info about upcoming encores. ;)
Hope you can slow down a bit for the coming weekend.
So when mediocre casuals ask for completely irrelevant festivals you provide them, but when raiding community express interest for scaled 115lvl Rift you promised in the lotro stream there's not a single word about it in the Patch Notes.
Can you stop favoring people who spend time roleplaying pumpkin in the Shire and focus on fixing and developing things that ACTUALLY matter (PvP, challenging end game instances, class balance, lag, 64-bit client)?
Extending festivals and giving encores are relatively easy to do more of a matter of just changing start and stop dates. I believe they said before one of the issues on scaling Rift and older stuff is that those who wrote the original code no longer work at the company and messing with it in some ways could ruin the code. Fixing bugs, working new areas, fixing classes and so forth take time and it all can't be done at once. There was talk about upcoming things a week or two ago, if you look at Youtube you can find the video. Not everything can be fixed right away. Takes time to do it and resources, turning a festival on takes little time.
Oh and the 64 bit client is most likely not in any kind of near future. They would have to either divert the programers away from any other kind of work or just put it on the back burner. You cannot get both at the same time.
Thank you so much for this!

Encore advocate here! :)
Festival junkies and the time limited alike thank you.
To be fair, adding an encore to our events schedule is much easier to do than extensive development work to scale a raid, and doesn't actually involve anyone from the development team to do the work. I don't recall us "promising" a scaled raid, either. It's a cool idea, but not something I am aware of us intending to do any time soon.
Cord he is mostly referring to lotro's favoritism towards casual player. That's definitely whats coming off when ssg chooses to respond to mostly role playing forums instead of REAL issues like the dwindling raiding community because of the massive lack of instance content.
I just hope the ssg team realizes that by answering mostly role play questions it makes the team come off as bias and the raiders feel like casuals are getting favoritism, this creates a war between casuals and raiders. This has basically happened already since us raiders are getting the impression that u dont care about us.
But responding to raiding forums exclusively would definitely not make it appear like favoritism towards raiders. Because of course there is absolutely nothing more important than raiding -- its the only real type of gameplay that exists.
Didn't Cord just say that responding to stuff like festivals and roleplay stuff require little to no dev xp? Easy things almost always get done. Has nothing to do with favoritism.
This just in - you can make valid points without being nasty and disposing anyone who still is willing to listen towards the opposing perspective.
Calling persons with a different perspective "mediocre casuals" rather than "casuals" just closes ears and does not enhance your argument. Likewise saying your issues are "real" but by implication other people's issues are not real just closes ears. Granted most ears are already long since closed this deep into any thread.
I view myself as somewhat neutral. I rarely raid but I play quite a bit more than the typical "casual" and I recognize the value of keeping raiders playing LOTRO.
And I know the "casuals" have made similar comments about raiders over the last 10 pages and deserve a slap on the wrist for them too but this is what I see looking at the last page for what is new in the discussion.
The thing is theyre not. They are not responding to raiding forums at all even when they are discussing very serious subjects like the fact that helms deep is happening again. (Serious lack of content)
Cord idk if your reading this but everyone in the raiding community currently things that YOU only care about casuals. We feel unrepresented and attacked by the ssg devs -------https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?663465-Trade-channel-b
And mar i want you to go to the dev tracker folder, look through it. There has been more then 6-7 forums about raiding yet the responses are exclusively about festivals and fiddles.
Yeah SSG hates raiders that's why they make multiboss raid just 4 months ago and will make another small raid this autumn. What an incredible hatred!!!111
To be serious. Don't you think that devs talk much about festivals because huge one is incoming? No? Obviously no. Raiders are the most elitist, arrogant and egocentric game audience, they think only about themselves and often be rude to other players.
Told you bro, because of ssgs favoritism we hate yall thats why we're so rude and arrogant towards yall. Yes, they love us. Thats why they: ignore our questions and concerns, Ban us when we talk about major issues and shady things they are doing, and decide to make quest pack for yall and leave the raiders for a full year with 1 3 boss raid that can be done in less then 2 hours. (Btw no one believes theyre gonna drop another raid in autumn, they're prolly gonna push it to like January)
Here's another vote for a Spring Festival encore.
Bro how small do you think this game is? There are atleast 10+ raiding kins in ark alone if we say there is 100 people in each kin (about 3-4 pages) that means there are 1000 raiders atleast in just one server and pls for the love of god try to put this in prespective, imagine if you only had one festival for the whole year while ssg kept only talking to raiders asking and only doing what they wanted. Imagine all the streamers were hardcore raiders how would u feel if u only had something you can do once a week for an hour or 2 at best
Just make the shrew stomping festival event a raid...complete with all raid gear as prizes.
Cinch!!!
As a former raider (non hard core) and now semi-casual raider, I'm certainly a fan of SSG continuing to put in the occasional raid. Raiders need love too (even if the hard core raiders barely deserve it :p ).
Never the less, you do need to keep in mind the sort of audience LOTRO largely appeals to, which I suspect to be a more casual crowd, who love the world of Middle-earth, love the story, love the lore, love the characters, love going to new and varied landscapes ( ideally sprawling for those of us who like to explore and look around every tree, rock, and hilltop to places others rarely go).
And so things that appeal to casual players, role-players, and the like are likely to take priority.
As someone who advocates for more raid and group content to also be included, I still understand this.
And that sir is how you kill a game appeal to the people who don’t take the game seriously (I get that it’s a game you know what I mean by serious????) I’m not gonna start a “raiders bring in more money then casuals argument cause it’s pointless, but I hope you understand that rn Lotro is losing its raiding community several Raiding Kins have quite the game. So realize that we need each other to survive and by tilting the balance towards casuals u lose your raiders and in the long run the game
Will the Scavenger Hunts only be available during the Anniversary Celebration (and presumably the encore)? Last year they rolled out over ten weeks, extending beyond the end of the Anniversary Celebration proper.
Whichever way it's decided, it would be good to make it clear in the schedule.
So... I went back and digged this up because I like to have something concrete instead of just saying willy-nilly, "ARGH you promised us something!" without any evidence.
https://youtu.be/T5eIHS6ynB0?t=46m20s
It says that there will be a scaling up of one of the bosses from The Rift of Nurz Ghashu raid and putting it in as a scaling instance during the Summer Festival.
I think that some players just took this snippet and assumed that it meant "we're making a scaled-up raid". Can you clarify?
Ah nice, that bit of new info slipped by me! Yes, we are scaling up one of the bosses from The Rift of Nurz Ghashu and putting it in as a scaling instance during the Summer Festival. That is a different thing than scaling up the entirety of that raid, though, but yes, we are doing the thing as a scaling instance during the Summer Festival.
Care to say abit more about this? Can we except T2 version of that boss scaled? Is it worth for raiders to be hyped for this, or is it gonna be T1 faceroll boss that you can do with any random group?
Please don't make it easy, make it actually very hard to finish and challenging!
Any information would be nice to hear from this topic please.
Now this sounds interesting. Having run the Rift frequently back during SoA, I can already see several potential candidates for this -- but it sounds like this is going to be an instance separate from the actual level 50 raid. If that is the case, I think it is the best solution overall when it comes to scaling the Rift itself.
Is this new scaling instance intended to be a difficult one, or at least have a T1/T2 set of difficulty options? The way the Rift worked made sense back in the day, but all the skill changes which came with Helm's Deep -- along with the 86-95 and 106-115 stat jumps -- I suspect would leave the original mechanics outdated. And after the Abyss of Mordath, a proper "lair" raid boss seems like a nice change of pace.
If we can get rewards unique to this specific instance in some way (such as from completing a Challenge of some kind), even better. I don't see too much incentive to run traditional scaling instances other than Featured Instances since Mordor was released, due to Light of Earendil gear mostly leaving other scaling instance rewards outdated in comparison, so something like a decent source of Anfalas Star-lit Crystals would immediately make it more attractive at level cap. But what I think might work best would be to have the new scaling instance drop special barter items alongside any standard rewards, and update or add a new barter NPC somewhere who would trade unique consumables for them -- there's already an NPC (Ruinestel) in Iorelen's Camp just outside the Rift of Nurz Ghashu entrance who offers Imladris Miruvor and Ringnen Salve for Rift-iron Coins along with other consumables, so giving another reason to return there seems thematically appropriate. Perhaps level-appropriate versions of the Potions of Ringdirith/Ruindirith/Lachdirith/Nordirith (temporary mitigation boost against a specific Tactical damage type) which were potential rewards for the Ithildin Coin quest released with Mines of Moria? We haven't seen consumables like those for a long time. A small percentage bonus along with any rating bonuses to a specific mitigation type would immediately give this instance something new to offer not seen elsewhere in the game, and doubly so if the items do not Bind on Acquire.
If the boss in question turns out to be the final one of the Rift, I'd love to see everyone's reaction to an updated version of that fight, as that was one of the only bosses I know capable of causing up to 10 Dread. As we already have the ability to revisit the fifth (the "lava lake") and seventh (colosseum) boss arenas in the Rescue in Nurz Ghashu skirmish, I'm hoping the scaled instance will take us to a different section of the raid instance.
Please maintain the thread clean for news and discussion about the Events Schedule, there are plenty of space in other forum sections for general game discussion. Thanks.
Sergio :-)
How long is the anniversary event running (not the encore): Schedule says
"11th Anniversary 4/19/18@10am 5/9/18@3am"
but the LOTRO Beacon Issue 57 and a (new?) loading screen say it runs through May 13th
".... LOTRO Bonus Days brings you LOTRO's 11th-anniversary celebration now through May 13th...."
Just asking to plan accordingly. :)
I have added the 11th Anniversary end date change to the initial post. Just to make sure it's put somewhere "official": We have extended the 11th Anniversary event through May 13th.
Any chance for any info on whether the scavenger hunt is extending past the end of the anniversary fest like it did last year? I've seen the question both here and in general discussion, but I haven't seen anyone give a knowledgeable answer. :/
thanks
Cord
Thanks for the latest Beacon - you always do a great job especially telling us about things we might not hear about.
Just a tip to avoid the usual unnecessary crying and wailing... you might want to edit that Beacon (Issue 59) where you state the dates for the Encore and Summer Festival:
In place of:
- Upcoming Festivals: Anniversary Encore June 7th - 18th & Summer Festival June 28th to July 17th.
may I suggest an edit to:
- Upcoming Festivals: Anniversary Encore June 7th thru 17th & Summer Festival June 28th thru July 16th.
I realise your version is "accurate" but I think my suggested edit may be more "helpfully communicative" :D
Just an idea. I mean many if not most of us consider 3am server time is about the end of a day rather than the start of a new one ;)
Fate
Hey Fate,
OliveYew here, Cord has passed the Beacon onto me, so thank you for your feedback! I'm always looking for ways to improve the quality and clarity of the Beacon for our readers! So I'm really happy you pointed this out, and I have changed it accordingly. Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any more suggestions for the Beacon!
Please review this with Cord. This change has come up before and is not helpful. As I learned in the service, "Consistency is better than correctness." :) The worlds are used to end date meaning 0300 Eastern on that date. This change has been tried before and the feedback was not kind. :) Plus, I understand that through in this context has a different (confusing) meaning in non-American English. 11 years of (mostly) doing it one way is an excellent argument for "ain't broke; don't fix it." :)
Is there going to be an encore for the Spring Festival?
Yep, tentatively. So hopefully that still happens.
And I believe we will also see an encore of the Anniversary festival, since that is told to include a low-end version of the scavenger hunt for lowbies.
The LOTRO Events Schedule has been updated! In addition to filling out some further weekends for the year, we've added a Spring Festival Encore, which will run from 5/18 @10am Eastern until 5/28 @3am Eastern. This overlaps with two other bonuses; a Lootbox Weekend and a VIP Event Boost. We have also reduced the frequency of Hobnanigans to approximately the first weekend of every other month, rather than approximately every month. This change is being done due to feedback on the popularity of the event. If we hear player desire to return to our previous frequency, we'll consider it.
I hate those encores! I see why you are doing it, but I think the repetition kills the specialty of the event that is there - and then is gone. Imagine Christmas (or any other important festival) Encore every year! What would that do to the feelings we have about it?
If you want to give people more time to finish deeds/barter for items, why not make the festival longer in the first place? Or, if need be, extend it like you used to do in the past?
I haven't played Hobnanigans in a long while. I liked the game as such, but in order to have a chance of winning, I for one had to concentrate extremely hard and found it very stressful to do it like that for 10 minutes. Especially, because you aren't done with one or two (winning) games but have to play (or rather - win) many times in order to gather enough tokens for a barter item. I always felt so worn out after a session of several matches that I gave up playing Hobnanigans altogether.Quote:

I think I would start playing it again if the duration of a match was considerably reduced (halved?).
Thanks so much for that! I was too busy last month to do the festival and many of my friends were as well... I'll let them know that we can all do it now that we have more time!
Please keep the encore's coming for every festival! It really helps those that don't have as much time, regardless of what other people feel, these encores don't harm anyone. Spring goes from March to June, so the encore makes perfect sense... specially since until 2016, Spring Festivals happened in May.
If the festivals were longer, people would be burned out by the end and not log in as much. By putting a space between, it gives people a mental break from the festival so it seems fresh and they get more logins. But I second the vote for no encores, short of technical problems where a festival doesn't work properly the first time around.
Since the summer festival has been acknowledged as having a festive "skirmish" of sorts, perhaps Hobnanigans could be converted to this format? It would save the trouble of checking the fields in hopes of finding a group going. If you made the players go up against an NPC team, it would also remove the multi-box farming component, though some may not like that. Probably a better solution to farming is reducing the number of tokens you need considerably.
About Hobnanigans... it really needs a total revamp... the matches are way too long and items are too expensive. The game itself is pretty fun when played fairly. But the lack of interest is probably related to items being too expensive and matches being very long, making it very boring.
I am a vote for festival encores. They're nice breaks from the main game and they are an opportunity for people who, for whatever reason, could not log in during the main festival dates.
The great thing about festival encores is you don't need to participate if you don't want to.
That said I get what you're saying. And perhaps you're like I can be often... if it's there I feel like I have to do it because then it won't be back for another year. :D Still nobody is forcing you to participate.
Honestly I'm not sure how I feel about just having a longer festival time vs. having encores. I guess either is fine with me, but then Vilan has a point about having the break in between.
After noticing that we had originally schedule the Spring Festival Encore to turn off on Memorial Day in the U.S., we're extending the event through May 30th! It'll now shut off at 3:00am Eastern on the 31st.
\o/
:)
Anniversary encore: does this include festival only, or also the Anniv Event with "yearly" quests from Party Tree?
Dunno if anyone already asked this
Isn't supossed Buried Treasure Hunt is each 3 months? Why only on July? Should be one around october
Oh, and I suggest for the Tale of the Shipwrecked Mariner event... perhaps a level scaling for the prizes? The higher one is lvl 35 >.>
And maybe a questline just for fun?
And a parrot pet!

Sergio :-)
Just wanted to add my thanks for the choice to have festival encores. I have a lot of characters and not a lot of time, and knowing there's an encore takes a lot of the stress off of me to get everything done on everyone and helps the festivals be fun for me. Thank you!
Made my own google calendar to keep up with the events. #GoogleTeacher
I will update when I see changes on this thread . . . unless anyone wants to help manage it. DM me if you do. Also, let me know if the link doesn't work right. I'll have my husband check it from his computer whenever he chooses to be awake again. :D

I totally agree! Please revamp Hobnanigans. It has not to be a totally other event but it would be great if you can do it solo oder the time is reduced oder the costs of the pets are reduced. At the moment i ignore it completely because it is not possible to find people.
Love both, & I think the encores are a great way to catch a few more tokens, or to get that one more item you really wanted, but barely missed, whether it is on a main character, or a fav alt. But cannot find out when our next one is , because the calendar is missing those key dates. Can someone please let us know when they are happening, pretty please with sugar on it?? :)
Thanks for the schedule info Cordovan!
An idea: do you think there’s any chance we could see the weekly offers further in advance? Personally it would give me something to save for, or not, depending on what is coming up. A bit like Xbox live tells people the games for gold in advance.
For example, I wanted to buy the Eriador quest bundle that was on sale a couple of weeks back, but couldn’t as I was temporarily VIP. I know there’s an element of wanting people to stay subscribed business wise and I get that, but if I had known it was coming on sale I would still have gone VIP for that month for other reasons; I would have just waited a couple of days, bought the quest pack first and gone VIP after. At that time I wouldn’t have bought 4K LP at once, but would have spent money to get the sale item.
Thanks!
Seems it is all there after all, at least til end of year. The dates are on the first page..thought updates used to be somewhere in the post as they were changed. Oops..oh well, they are there!!! Thank you for keeping them updated! :)
There is a mixup on the calendar, and the Farmer's Faire is officially underway as of 10:00 AM Eastern today! The event runs through September 10th, turning off on Monday, September 11th at 3:00 AM Eastern. I will update the main calendar shortly.
