Question LoTRO 11th Anniversary Ending On 9th Or Through 13th May ??? Conflicting Information ???

Not sure but I think I have found some conflicting information on the web-site.

This is nothing that concerns me too much but it might be of interests to others and I'm sure the "when does the festival ends" discussion will come eventually. I just logged in for a short time to grab the new quiver (that's when I noticed this) but others might be out to maximize the wrapper quests and try get all anniversary items etc.

In the Event Schedule it says:
    Link: https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthr...vents-Schedule

    "11th Anniversary 4/19/18@10am 5/9/18@3am"

Meaning the anniversary will end 3 hrs into the start of the 9th of May, at 3AM server time (I framed the 11th anniversary info in red).

    [screenshot]

    [/screenshot]

However in the latest LoTRO Beacon Issue 57 it says the following:
    Link: https://www.lotro.com/en/game/articl...eacon-issue-57

    • LOTRO Bonus Days brings you LOTRO's 11th-anniversary celebration now through May 13th and Double Bonus Points now through April 29th!

    [screenshot]

    [/screenshot]

Note how it separates, saying that it "brings the 11th-anniversary celebration now through May 13th" (I framed that in red), then specify that the double bonus points is "now through April 29th!" (I framed that in green). So the Double bonus points is not the thing that runs through May 13th. I can only read that as it's the anniversary that runs through May 13th, while the double bonus points only runs through April 29th.

I might be reading that wrong but I'm sure it might eventually confuse others as well.

Just felt I should point that out, so it can either be corrected (if one of them is the wrong info) or at least clarified what it means, so there won't be any confusion later down the road for those that this might be very important to.

Yes, it is through the 13th. In the busy-ness of the week I failed to update the event schedule. We extended it to give folks more time.

Thanks for that - some of us old slowpokes - and some of the younger ones too :P - always need more time

So as you still haven't had time to update, I'm assuming it's ending at 3 a.m. on May 14th, please post if I'm wrong when you update the events schedule to save us double/triple checking.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes probably, I have come to understand that "through" in that context for SSG means it going on through that entire date, so the whole of the 13th and yes that also means it logically will end at 3AM Server Time on the 14th. So 3 hours into the 14th. Note again "server time". That means of course different times for Your local time but server time is the same for all. So always do a /servertime in the chat box to see what date and time it is on the server. Also take into account Daylight Saving Times if that affects some. Usually the servers are adjusted for that some days or even a week earlier or later than some countries. One of the adjustements usually happens during The Halloween/Autumn/Harvest Festival. Not sure when the other one occurs.

I hope that helps. Of course to be 100%, Cordovan should confirm as this is just my best "guess" based on previous history with the festivals, how and when they end.

    Thanks Lord.Funk

I was playing many years ago when there was a huge fuss because Turbine shut down an event 24 hours before many of us were expecting it and we were left with unfinished quests and unusable tokens or whatever. The reason was they used to use the words "from" and "to" which apparently had a different meaning here in the States. Many of us who share JRR Tolkien's nationality pointed out that his language should be used and that in England "from" and "to" are generally meant mean "inclusive" unlike Turbine's understanding. They solved this by having the first ever Event encore which has since become the norm. They have also exclusively used the word "through" for the same reason and SSG (being people who were working on LOTRO back then) have sensibly continued it.

As for servertime, I live in Georgia, so "servertime" is always "mytime" and SSG, as well as any of us who post, always mean servertime unless something is written to the contrary.

As a reminder, the USA's mainland (aka the lower 48) spans 4 time zones. There are additional zones for the territories and the portion that is not contiguous. Through, in US usage (unless that's changed), means the end of the day on that date. That said, the abbreviation '-' could mean to or through. So, it is best that they settle on one usage, currently that is 'through'.

Server reset time is Midnight Pacific Time (US), which is UTC -8 when not on Daylight Savings Time and UTC -7 when on Daylight Savings Time, aka 3AM Eastern Time (US). There is also, I think, a holdover from the old days. USA television was broadcast on Eastern Time for most of the continental USA and on Pacific Time for the western parts, so the nightly news advertisements were 9 PM Eastern/Pacific. Since I've never lived in the Mountain time zone and only briefly visited there, I don't know if they got their feed from the Eastern TV broadcast or the Western one. Likewise for the AK/HI zone, which is two hours behind Pacific Time. These days, though, I suspect it doesn't matter much.

Typically, events and bonuses start at 10:00 AM Eastern time on whatever day and end at 3:00 AM Eastern time on whatever day. For messaging, we tend to announce it after the event has begun, and use the phrase "...through XXX (date)." If something ends at 3:00 AM Eastern on the 14th, we'll say "through the 13th!" While technically that means there are a few extra hours (Eastern time), it's better than the confusion of "until" or "to", given our worldwide audience.
