and regarding my riddle...
good guesses all, but this is a very sneaky one:D something is being overlooked. remember the knowledge is "in plain sight" :)
the second, and especially the last line are key, read carefully;)

I haven't come up with any more good answers yet... but just for the sake of throwing out another guess that is obviously wrong, how about the Mirror of Galadriel?
Here's another bad guess: Maybe "in plain sight" could mean being in sight of some plains? Probably not, huh? Oh well, how about Fangorn Forest?
I'm just about ready to give up here. Unless Berephon comes charging in with his uber L33T lore monkey skills, I don't think we'll ever be able to guess it.

...I still don't get it. ...maybe I'm just not good at understanding things... ...hmm... I had thought of looking "below in plain sight" and "above in plain sight" by searching all over your original post, (a I mentioned before, that I was searching in your signature) are only those three middle lines important? Why are they emphasized? Because they're below that one line and above the other? I still can't decipher their meaning. I'll just wait for someone else to do the work. ;)

LA you did initially have the right idea, the answer hiding in the visible words somewhere in my post.
It was a struggle to not only keep the acronym, but to phrase the lines so that they fit in with the ideas and didnt seem out of place and suspicious, AND to have it rhyme hehe
anyway I guess it wasn't as good an idea as I thought, forgive me hehe:(
i did try it on my brother before i posted it and he got it, I guess its just because he knows how i think haha

I felt so sorry for you, Elvyen, that I made this riddle up on the spot. (I didn't know I could do that! :O ) You must keep your sanity! Sorry if it isn't up to it's usual standards... this riddle will lead to me finally putting up a signature. If you guys have to much trouble with it, which you shouldn't, I'll put up my signature as a hint that will give away the answer. Here it is:
There is a jewel among stones,
A jewel that glitters not,
A light from the shadows,
That brought darkness to naught.
I'll take a guess, but I think this one is pretty hard. Lots of possible answers.
My guess:
Aragorn "Elf-stone". All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost.

you guys got it correct. Thank you for your compliment, Elvyen. I didn't know I could do that either, it usually takes me 10-15 minutes to write a riddle. However, on this one I wasn't spending a lot of time trying to make it rhyme well, which is why all of the lines didn't rhyme. :)
I'm still thinking about SL's...
I don't know much about the hobbit calendar and I can't look it up right now, but could the answer be yule?
I was going to say winter solstice for SL's but yeah LA is right, it's Yule! Hobbit equivalent of solstice right?

Yes, you got it; yule is the answer. Falling on the solstice, the days were the shortest of the year. It was viewed as a time of renewal and regeneration.
