the second, and especially the last line are key, read carefully

Well, from that I think these lines are the most important. o.O

Time is not understood, vast illusions end light
Nameless ills gather here. Terrors inside now gain a lost eyesight
What’s my name and my nickname? If you’d guess them aright,

Re: The Riddle-Game

No time for riddling today, but I did want to pop in and verify that Radagast was indeed the answer to my latest riddle.

Elvyen, that one's a doozy. I'll try to work on it some this evening if I get a chance.

G'day, y'all!

I haven't come up with any more good answers yet... but just for the sake of throwing out another guess that is obviously wrong, how about the Mirror of Galadriel?

Re: The Riddle-Game

Here's another bad guess: Maybe "in plain sight" could mean being in sight of some plains? Probably not, huh? Oh well, how about Fangorn Forest?

I'm just about ready to give up here. Unless Berephon comes charging in with his uber L33T lore monkey skills, I don't think we'll ever be able to guess it.

Hehe I guess I'd better try to clear it up a little. I hope I dont get yelled at when you guys solve it and see how tricky I've been

I’ve a name and a nickname, can you guess them aright?
The knowledge you seek, hides below in plain sight
...Living under the hills inside eternal night
...Time is not understood, vast illusions end light
...Nameless ills gather here. Terrors inside now gain a lost eyesight

What’s my name and my nickname? If you’d guess them aright,
Look to humble beginnings, up above in plain sight.

the riddle gives you the answer, just not in the way you think hehe

ehh dont be angry with me, i just tried to do something different haha

...I still don't get it. ...maybe I'm just not good at understanding things... ...hmm... I had thought of looking "below in plain sight" and "above in plain sight" by searching all over your original post, (a I mentioned before, that I was searching in your signature) are only those three middle lines important? Why are they emphasized? Because they're below that one line and above the other? I still can't decipher their meaning. I'll just wait for someone else to do the work.

Luthien Tinuviel, Nightingale

Yeah, I am kinda mad at you, Elvy. :P More mad at myself that you had to completely spell it out for me that you had spelled it out for me.

Could that be it? I had thought of her, when searching Elvyen's signature. I knew she fit the nickname part, but does she fit those 3 lines in the middle of the riddle?

Re: The Riddle-Game

you got it Lind
beginnings meant the first letters of the words in the middle 3 lines
LA you did initially have the right idea, the answer hiding in the visible words somewhere in my post.
It was a struggle to not only keep the acronym, but to phrase the lines so that they fit in with the ideas and didnt seem out of place and suspicious, AND to have it rhyme hehe

anyway I guess it wasn't as good an idea as I thought, forgive me hehe

i did try it on my brother before i posted it and he got it, I guess its just because he knows how i think haha

I just wanted to try something different

That was very interesting, I'm not angry at all. Only, a new rule should be that you have to say if yours is not like a traditional riddle in any way, shape, or form.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with that. It adds to the challenge if you're not expecting something like what Elvyen just did, as was just proven. That was the most time I've ever spent pondering any riddle in the history of this thread.

Agreed, very well done Elvyen!

Well done, Elvyen. One sign of a good riddle is that when you figure out (or find out) the answer you go, "Doh! I should have seen that!"

Re: The Riddle-Game

I felt so sorry for you, Elvyen, that I made this riddle up on the spot. (I didn't know I could do that! :O ) You must keep your sanity! Sorry if it isn't up to it's usual standards... this riddle will lead to me finally putting up a signature. If you guys have to much trouble with it, which you shouldn't, I'll put up my signature as a hint that will give away the answer. Here it is:

There is a jewel among stones,
A jewel that glitters not,
A light from the shadows,
That brought darkness to naught.

Re: The Riddle-Game

I'll take a guess, but I think this one is pretty hard. Lots of possible answers.

My guess:

Aragorn "Elf-stone". All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost.

Thanks for the concern LA haha, and the riddle! great one, and thought up spontaneously? quite impressive! I'm incapable of that, it takes me forever
I agree with Outsidersubtype and MorgothsBane on it; Elessar, Elfstone
Even if they're right, you should still put up a signature, it's high time that you got one hehe

Re: The Riddle-Game

Just popping in to offer another riddle. I don't think this one will take you long:

Two of me, shorter and darker than others,
bring renewal to children, fathers, and mothers.
Be merry! Light a fire! Drink on, and give song!
'Twill be many months ere I next come along.

Re: The Riddle-Game

you guys got it correct. Thank you for your compliment, Elvyen. I didn't know I could do that either, it usually takes me 10-15 minutes to write a riddle. However, on this one I wasn't spending a lot of time trying to make it rhyme well, which is why all of the lines didn't rhyme.

I'm still thinking about SL's...
The bright blade of Anduril shone like a sudden flame as he swept it out. "Elendil!" he cried. "I am Aragorn son of Arathorn and am called Elessar, the Elfstone, Dunadan, the heir of Isildur Elendil's son of Gondor. Here is the Sword that was Broken and is forged again! Will you aid me or thwart me? Choose swiftly!"

I don't know much about the hobbit calendar and I can't look it up right now, but could the answer be yule?

Yes, you got it; yule is the answer. Falling on the solstice, the days were the shortest of the year. It was viewed as a time of renewal and regeneration.
