I'm hoping they address this question as well, I'm also concerned about the naming policy after the whole transfer process has completed.

unfortunately it is what it is nothing we can do about it, whatever way Turbine do it someone will surly complain about it, do I like it !!!! I will not say, the only way they can do if you call it the right way? is if they give us all a number including our active names (mayflower will now be 1, if that the top character on your screen next will be 2 and so on) then to change our names via the token but even then someone will complain anyway.
IMO they made it this way and Turbine thinks it's the best way to it, and we need to deal with it and i accept that. Names are not on their priority list to do. they have updates they are doing so you can ask them to put updates on the back burner and get everyone their names that they want or get updates!! what would you choose!
I will may lose the name of my main which I have had forever to a level 9 RK. Am i going to cry about it? No its a game, I'll move on and keep playing. As far as I remember the 48 hr testing/open transfer info was clear enough for me when it was on the launcher. My kin and friends that play were important enough for me to look at the forums to find out more about the transfer process. It is a game people. Turbine like any company is not perfect, but what is happening is a huge task, there will be issues, there will be downtime, there may be tears, but in the end when its all over and sorted the servers will be full of life and most will be happy. /me hands out bacon flavoured potato cookies.
The naming issue has been discussed for pretty much the 9 months since the first announcement.... and although we have come up with an amazing amount of different alternatives over the years, I think the naming issue is pretty much a dead horse that can't be beaten any deader than it currently is. It's been confirmed multiple times that it isn't going to change anymore. The transfers have started, the official kickoff of the first sun-setting server transfers will happen on Monday, and they aren't going to change the naming policies any more now. Vyvyanne confirmed this to us yesterday as well:
That said, there are a number of things you can do.
1) Try and create your character on Elendilmir, Riddermark, or any server that will be scheduled before yours.
2) Transfer THAT character to the server you want to move to when you get the chance.
This will tell you whether you will be able to bump an inactive character, or never logged on character. If it transfers and keeps "Name", the name is yours. (Just delete the character later when you bring your main over). If it becomes "Name-1", you have a decision to make: Move to that server, and accept Name-1, or try your luck on another server.
You can try on Elendilmir first, create your character before Sunday night as character creation will be disabled on that server. If you get "Name-1" on the target server, and the name IS important to you, try the same on Riddermark for the week after, transferring to a different server. Of course the caveet is that your name must be available on the earlier sunsetting servers.... if it isn't then the above doesn't really matter, and you will just have to take a chance when the time comes.
I know that especially since August 3d (the date the servers were announced), the amount of level 1 name claimers on all servers have gone sky high. But you could have claimed characters as early as January, and if you wanted on all 20 US servers or 19 EU servers, just to be sure.....
The naming policy will remain in effect after the transfers, so in the future you will once again be able to "claim" the name of an inactive character if you choose to move from one server to another. There really weren't a lot of changes done to the naming policy as it existed before, the Name-1 policy always existed, just until these transfers an inactive character with the name could not be "bumped".
If you choose to move to another server later, you should probably expect to see a Name-2 or Name-3, maybe even a Name-4 as many people that have moved from closing servers may not have changed their names, AND there might be a LOT of inactive characters named Name-1, so moving to another server will have a high probability of Name-2 instead.
Between your post before this 1 and now this 1 you are actually spreading misinformation. The quote you posted of Vyvyanne's was directed towards another posters specific question pertaining to the naming policy as it stands now, NOT IN THE FUTURE.
My question was in reference to the future. As in after transfers are completed! Please don't answer a question of mine that you have no future knowledge of and or what plans they might have and how they plan on handling something, unless of course you are a mind reader? No where on these forums has this question been answered.
I would really appreciate a blue name response to this. Even if it's to say, we aren't sure how we will handle the naming policy once transfers for all servers has completed.
First: I don't see anywhere in Vyvyanne's answer that it pertained to a certain amount of time. She said "No changes are planned". In the past, if there was some thought in a far away back room at Turbine's headquarters about it, she would have said something like: "That is something we are looking at for a later time", or something along those lines. Take it for what it is worth, but to me "No changes are planned" is pretty clear English language to me.
Also, you are forgetting one important thing:
The (free or otherwise) transfers will never end. Servers will close, yes, but the transfers will never end. There is really no reason to change the naming policy that applies to people who transfer off of servers now to a new system for those who haven't transferred off of their closing worlds yet come January 2016, or when the servers close. If you think otherwise, you are free to leave your characters sitting on a closing server in hopes that the naming policy will change, but am pretty certain it isn't going to change, and those coming BACK to the game in March 2016, or November 2016, or June 2017 will be faced with the very same naming policy as we are now.
The "Blue Names" can of course see further in the future behind the scene than we can, but personally, I think they have MUCH bigger fish to fry then changing the naming policy after over 90% of players have probably settled on their servers, and would only consider a paid transfer if they really have a specific reason for it. There are certainly no plans for it in Update 17 or 18, from the details about those that have leaked so far.
The current naming policy has one thing going for it: It works. No bugs have been reported, inactive names can be claimed if they are over 1 year inactive, same with characters that have been create but not logged on and are older than one year. There is no reason to spend time and money to change the code to the naming policy again. If it isn't broke, why fix it after all? It's a rock-solid system that works that really doesn't need any tinkering with anymore.
I will also leave you with an earlier post from Vyvyanne:
I repeat:
"We had to come up with a solution that would work for Transfers going forward."
Again, combined with what Vyvyanne has said yesterday, to me that means they came up with a naming conflict solution that would stand the test of time. Something that will work now, something that will work when in 2016 people come back to the game and find their toons still on "old servers" that are closed, and in the future when people want to transfer for a fee between the 5 remaining worlds.
Anyways, feel free to think otherwise, but I will take "No changes are planned" as "No changes are planned".
And what about failed transfers on the previous round? We have to keep waiting to get our characters/stuff back?
I'm a 5+ year player, VIP Account almost all time, expend a lot of money on this game (yes, because I like it), but when I get an important issue the customer service is literally non-existant.
I have make 3 bug tickers, they take 3+ days to answer them and just say, "wait for the transfers to open back again and try to get all back" (I have lost all my shared storage and my wallet on a failed transfer, everything I have been making the past 6 months or more).
But wait, transfers are back on monday and the world I need to open to try to get my stuff back is not! So I have to keep waiting? They asked me to wait 2 weeks, I wait, but still no one is resolving my issue (and don't think I'm the only one)
Yesterday was my day to pay my subscription again, but as they are making me wait, I will make them wait too.....Maybe someday Turbine will take care of their players, my personal thoughts is that people who plays is more important than the game, and now I'm not just talking about getting my things back, I'm talking about general costumer service and support of the last years.
Could you guys give it a rest already? This thread has gone to hell.
I never said I spoke for them. But I can find information on a forum, just like you can and just like everyone else can. At the very least, I can help them find the right information by quoting what blue names have said in the past, and in this case - with regards to the naming conflict system - that information was pretty crystal clear. Why give people false hope, especially since that issue was already put to rest and answered in the past?
If you don't like my posts, please feel free to ignore me. This way, my posts do not show up at all. But don't tell me what I can and cannot answer on this forum.
Does it not work for you, or did you forget?
I believe you should open up a new ticket and ask. Are the characters/stuff really gone, or are they stuck on a server you currently don't want to be on? If they are gone, you really should contact Turbine again. Perhaps call the support phone number this time, I don't know exactly where the automated tickets end up and how they are handled, and speaking to a person might help a lot more than tickets that can be closed. I find that to be the case with many companies to be honest, calling to speak to an actual human being is often better.
Based on what you said, I presume you were part of the 48 hour test. I suggest you place a phone call, I don't know if stuff disappears after some time for some reason, and obviously it seems tickets aren't helping. One thing you must know is that the tickets get answered by first line support, and they probably aren't ready to deal with fringe cases like yours where stuff actually got *lost*.
1 (855) 924-2637 is the phone number. The only downside is that they operate from 2PM to 6PM EST, so only 4 hours a day.

Thanks for trying to help. I think my stuff is locked on another server, but that's only my guess, it was more than 2 weeks ago when I lost it... I opened a new ticket yesterday, so I think sending another one won't do anything, last one I sent 2 weeks ago they answered me on the 3rd day after I sent it. Also calling I don't think is an option for me, I agree with you that speak to an actual human maybe will help but I'm from Spain so probably the call will cost me more than 3 months of vip and I'm afraid that at the end they won't help me...
Did you happen to transfer from server A to server B and then back to server A? I know you can't transfer shared items BACK for 2 weeks due to the fact that some database entries on the original server aren't cleaned up automatically. To do that, they probably have some sort of weekly script running or something.... I don't know if that is the case anyways, just theorizing out loud.
Yes. That's they case and they told me to try the transfer again after 2 weeks to recover my stuff, but now I have no idea when they will open the server again (it's from Laurelin to Evernight) and they are not answering my tickets...I can't wait forever to get it back, I paciently wait 2 weeks but seems it's gonna take a lot more than that, even I'm starting to think they won't give it back...
I wonder what is done about kinship names. If one transfers a kinship from server A to B the same kinship name can never be used again on server A because it remains in the database. Will this be cleaned up at some point?
I suppose I should thank you some what for helping me prove my point!! If the above is how it will stand in the future, then what is to prevent anyone from those closed servers in say 2016/2017/2018 from logging on 1 of thier characters that has been laying dormant (NOT ACTIVE) and transferring to an open world and then possibly taking someones name?? Those people should not have that much power, period! If you can't see a problem with this, then I can't help you.
But if Vyvyanne is really trying to make it as stressfree as possible for people to have/get or keep thier names in this huge migration period, and thereafter, then she must also think passed that time frame and protect every single person from having thier names stolen some where down the road. There is no reason a person should have to worry about thier names indefinitely!
There are a lot of characters on those closing worlds that will have way more power then they should once transfers go back to being paid for. This is why people have been asking about the future plans for paid transfers and those free transfers off closed servers, and the naming policy, and why it should go back to the way it was before. If you transfer either from a closed server or are paying to transfer, you get a -1 after your name. No 1 should be at risk of losing thier names forever/indefinitely!
This new naming policy should be viewed as a temporary solution, to help active players in possibly keeping thier name. It shouldn't be used once transfers go back to being paid for, that should be the cut off point.
Again: I would really appreciate it if a blue name would respond to this question about the future plans (when transfers go back to being paid for) for the naming policy.
Not quite sure what you are getting at. No one will be able to take anyones name unless it has been inactive for more than a year. If the name is active of the destination server, the incoming gets the -1. If there is a Jury on a long closed server then that person moves to your server where you have logged Jurny in in the past year, new comer Jurny gets the -1.
Right, and everyone would have to make it thier game life to make sure that doesn't happen, ever! Think about people that might have numerous accounts and characters on the 5 remaining servers (be it US or EU), and to expect them to log them all on year after year to make sure no 1 takes thier name is ridiculous, no? People take time off from games, it isn't thier life or thier job!
There is honestly too much here to read so please forgive me if this is a redundant question.
If I transfer one char over to another world but wish to keep the rest of my chars on my home server. What can I take with me if I have a shared wallet?
If you haven't logged in in a year, you arent an active player. If you care enough about not losing your name, even if you dont play anymore, log in once a year. On the other hand, that seems rather selfish as you are just keeping a name from someone who actually plays.
If the game isnt their life or job as you put it, why would they care about the name's of there characters they havent played in a year +?
Not sure what all the exclamation points are for. Why the excitement/yelling?
