So... 2 little things in the patch notes for us...

Personally, I think putting an offensive buff on a skill I pretty much only use when I'm in a defensive role isn't much of an improvement over the current 5-set bonus (which doesn't work), but whatever.

I actually kinda like it. I run the moors a lot and the extra Ranged Block rating can be pretty nice, so assuming I ever get the 5 set bonus I won't be complaining.

I'd agree that it's pretty common-sense-defying. Offense should go with offense and defense with defense imho. Anything else is kind of silly.

It's incredibly dumb, especially considering that almost nobody will use it outside the raid.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm much more excited about Unerring Strike having sound. The BG armor is completely worthless except for cosmetics and gaining radiance access to whatever the next raid is.

It ought to be a wicked sick buff like the champs' set bonus .

As for sound... Meh... I keep in-combat sound at 1% so that i can hear people in-game/vent. I could care less.

As for the set buff... Meh... I would prefer something like 10% chance to lower all incoming damage by 5%. But we all know that probably won't happen anyway.

Maybe we should start a thread about what we think our skills should do.

Would have been more useful if the 5 set bonus just made Shield Mastery last until out of combat, no duration on it.

Adds the following to the Shield Mastery effect:

On any incoming damage, 20% chance to reflect effect: -10% damage. 10-second duration.

Debuffs mobs fairly often, but unlikely to be up 100% of the time given that debuffed mobs attack slowly and wardens BPE a lot of those attacks. Obviously, the debuff only applies if the warden is being hit, so it's a tanking incentive. Sounds powerful, but since hearing that the champ set is WAI it doesn't seem particularly OP.

Even if the Mirk 5 set bonus WAS the suggested 10 or 15% chance to reduce incomeing damage by 5 or 10% by 10 seconds... would that be enough for you to do away with the Moria/other gear and run with Mirk gear on a regular, non-raid basis?

So, why is this a bad thing? You put up SM and get a buff to melee damage which should cause you to generate more threat. Wouldn't that make grabbing and holding aggro easier? That seems like the prefect place for it. Or are guys dismissing it because our threat generating skills are more than sufficient now?

My point is that I see talk about wardens needing to do more to assist with the damage output of the group and not just spend all our time on direct threat related skills, so wouldn't this help (however small that help might be)?

    Just asking.

The issue is is that it's a small % chance to apply the buff upon use of SM, so you'd have to be using SM in the first place and then to get the buff either spam it or get lucky. At level cap a lot of us are capped for avoidance so using SM is no longer a priority.

I somehow missed the word "chance", so I can now see the lack of excitement over the "buff".

So this has been talked about long enough, let's change the subject -- how have you managed to cap your avoidance? I can do that when using SM, but haven't gotten to the point where I can forgo SM.

Trying to cap them without SM is a waste. SM can easily be applied every minute or so, and you would have to sacrifice a lot of other things to cap block/evade without it. As for parry, I can cap it with captain buff and WoS, but I rarely keep WoS up (at full health I dont need it, and a heal is better when not at full health)

As for the buff, the only time I ever use SM is when I'm full-on tanking something and need the defense, which means my damage output is abysmall, spamming taunts, PB's and HoTs, and I suspect that is the case for nearly all wardens who tank. So why would Turbine give us an offensive buff on a purely defensive skill? It defies all logic and class reason, so there can be only one explanation....

    Are you ready for this?

And this is true by the way, I'm not just pulling something out of my @ss.

    Here it is.

Turbine has 4 buckets. And in those buckets, there are cards scattered around. In the first bucket, there are 9 cards with the name of each class on them. In the second bucket, the cards have lists of types of skills (DPS, defensive, healing, buffs, debuffs, etc.). The third bucket has different types of bonuses that could apply to different classes (offensive, defensive, cooldown, duration, etc.).

Turbine devs draw cards at random from each bucket for class sets. Well, this time around they drew "warden" from the 1st bucket, "defensive" from the 2nd one, and "offensive proc" from the third one. So they came up with this "offensive buff chance from Shield Mastery."

This is also how they determine nerfs, buffs, new skills and traits, etc.

    SO NOW YOU KNOW!

And yes. This was a serious post.

Haha. Nice post, HoF. Since you didn't tell us what's in the fourth bucket, I'll make a guess. Since they could have put the bonus on something like Wall of Steel (which might make it usable in a DPS rotation over Onslaught) or Restoration (where it would see a lot more use and still be on the shield icon), my guess will explain that.

The fourth bucket has "amazing," "mediocre," and "why would anyone want this?" Champs got the first, we got the last.

That's sort of what I thought, so no need to ditch SM (which I use a lot while tanking).

Hmm, yeah I messed up with the 4 buckets thing. I was originally going to put 4 then couldnt think of a 4th one, but forgot to change it. Thanks for filling me in
But champs getting "amazing"? All they got was 1/10th of a trait they should always have slotted anyways lol... unless their bonus got changed too. I don't follow champ stuff so I wouldn't know

The description is wrong for the Champ bonus.

It's not even remotely close to maybe being right if you spell it backwards and look at it at a wide angle.

    That kind of wrong.

Any Blade-wall crit generates a pip. So if you crit 4 times + Stalwart Blade, you generate 5 pips.

    And yes...it's WAI.
