Anniversary Tokens for the Anniversary Event

Well, this is more of a rant, than a suggestion, but whatever.

Anniversary Event? Shouldn't this be one of the most spectacular events around? Instead, I find out that you really only have two options to get Anniversary Tokens - horse races, or some stupid game about smashing other people and trying not to get smashed (aka, the bipedal version of Stomp-A-Shrew). Very Lame, LOTRO. I don't have 12 hours to sit around repeatedly playing Bash-A-Player for a few tokens (if I'm lucky). Fine, so that leaves the horse races. 20 Anniversary Tokens PLUS 3 horse race tokens?!? WTH!

So... April 24th to May 2nd, that's 9 days, at 2 tokens per day, that's only 18 Anniversary Tokens (if you don't select the 3 horse race win tokens - which you must if you want the steed). So, if you don't like the ONLY event aside from horse races, you will never get anything from the Anniversary Festival.

LAME, and extremely frustrating for casual players.

FYI, if there did happen to be any other events, the Towne Criers certainly weren't talking about them (another fail if there were alternative events). :P

Re: Anniversary Tokens for the Anniversary Event - FAIL LOTRO

    How Odd.

I did win 95 tokens just by entering the many lotteries...

    but that's just me...
And I certainly ain't complaining about it.

Re: Anniversary Tokens for the Anniversary Event - FAIL LOTRO

Less than 2 minutes of my time invested in the lotto entries, every once in a while, has yielded enough lotto tokens to completely buy the whole set of anniversary rewards for FREE on two different servers. I also own 2 anniversary-cake horses. My characters on these servers range from level 6 bank toons to level cap; 5 on each server.

LOTRO did not fail. OP, you simply overlooked an extremely viable option.

Re: Anniversary Tokens for the Anniversary Event

I think you are correct in the frustration level that some players experienced with this anniversary event. At this point, though, I have to believe that Turbine has gotten the message, so now I'll wait to see if there are any changes with future events.

You are also correct that this is more a rant than a suggestion. If you want a better chance of people listening to your concerns, you may want to rethink that approach.

Another thing to do, if possible, is check the forums during the event. You may see that others already share your feelings and you can add your voice to theirs. Also, as mentioned in the reply above, Turbine did try to compensate for the event's in-game shortfalls with lotteries. I know it does not help for everyone, but some people were able to get what they wanted by entering a couple lotteries a day.

Now that the anniversary is over, all we can do is hope lessons were learned on both sides and that the game is better for it next time.

It sounds like the OP was not aware of the lotteries. And, while I think they were probably the best response Turbine had available, I don't think the lotteries completely erase the problems with the in-game events. The OP has it correct that, unless you had someone tell you about them, the lotteries were not announced in-game (Although, was it on the launcher news? I forget.). Some players just don't come to the website often.

I still hope there were things Turbine learned from the event. I hope, though, that one of those things is NOT that they can pull whatever they want in-game as long as a lottery picks up the slack. It was a fine bandage here, but it is not, for me, a sustainable solution for future.

Nowhere, it's only available during festival times.

I am really disappointed by this "festival". Oh yes, I got all the cosmetics, housing items and maps and even the horse for one of my characters. But what's really sad that I didn't have to participate in a single event despite the 3 horse races. I got ALL the necessary coins from the lotteries and still have some left. The beer brawl is the silliest minigame I've ever seen. That I was able to get all the rewards by only participating in an out-of-game activity shows how lousily this event was planned by Turbine.

Guy, the next time you're disgruntled about something you might try mentioning it while the troublesome thing is going on. Where were you two weeks ago? A week ago? A few days ago?

I hope you feel better from your rant because not only (would I guess) most of us tired of hearing about it, but Turbine already made concessions. In fact, I spent well over 500 Anniversary Tokens and still have near 100 or so left across my toons. I played the beer brawl exactly 8 times and the horse races 3 times.

Turbine more than made up for it (again, I would guess) in most of our minds. In fact, they overdid it considerably.

    Have a nice day!

Re: Anniversary Tokens for the Anniversary Event - FAIL LOTRO

I won a ton of tokens in the lottery, took no part in the event itself. Bought the furniture items for my house and nothing else. The horse is ugly beyond words as were the cosmetic clothing items. Overall, the whole event had the air of being a rushed, thrown together, last minute after thought. And with nine toons, I have an absolute ton of tokens left over on my other toons that won the lotteries.

I do sincerely hope Turbine learned from this and does much better next time.

Why is this thread popping up after the event has ended? This rant belongs about a week in the past along with all the others that said exactly the same thing.

Re: Anniversary Tokens for the Anniversary Event - FAIL LOTRO

OP, you are spot-on correct. Some of us did not have the delightful pleasure of winning *any* tokens from the lotteries they entered <---- So, those who think it is a viable option: um... it's not. I expected the Anniversary event to far out-class the Spring festival, but it didn't. For casual players, it was a bust. To that I say, "no harm, no foul." If it frees up the devs time to one day finally bring me Rohan (and a *good* Rohan!) I do not care.

As this is not a suggestion and as this topic has been covered in many other threads, I'm going ahead and closing this one as well.

Please remember that the suggestions forum is meant for suggestions.
