Well. You shouldnt join the servers Now. Maybe they are still working on the last things. But alone the power on for all servers would take 30 minutes or more. So please be patient to prevent an crash.

We Americans (and even Europeans to a degree) get the better side of the deal not because we are greedy and don't care about other customers around the world. But seriously, no matter what time Turbine decides upon, someone will be inconvenienced. I was inconvenienced, here in the US, because I was in the middle of questing for the festival. I have 9 toons to churn through there, and this 2-hour hotfix was an inconvenience for me. While on the opposite side of the planet there are some fortunate souls who are happily asleep in their beds, oblivious that the hotfix is even here. Not inconveniencing them at all.
I suppose some of you folk would prefer that Turbine employees (ordinary folk like the rest of us who have normal daytime jobs) stay up past midnight to run a hotfix that's more convenient for those of you who complain? That is a very self-centered attitude. People who expect other people to stay up overnight so that the hotfix doesn't inconvenience them (even though its inconveniencing loads of other people, not just the employees) are pretty selfish sorts of people. Have some consideration for the rest of the human population.
Well, usually that is what Turbine does. Maintenance is typically in the wee hours of the EST morning, and the same typically goes for scheduled updates. But the situation here is the word "hotfix". It was not planned in advance. It was a result of the instances breaking after launching yesterday morning. A day after the launch -- they couldn't exactly plan this stuff in advance. And as Sapience said, their schedule is pretty tight. If they decided to wait for another time, that other time could end up being... next week... next month, which is actually next year... It was now when they can, or possibly a long wait. And then the forums would be full of unhappy customers who've waited so long for the IC only to receive it with problems. I personally ran 2 of the instances yesterday without a problem, but apparently I was one of the lucky ones. I'm not even sure what the problems are with the instances.
UPDATED: Apparently the downtime has been extended by 2.5 hours.

Restart is not the same as a hotfix. Restarts are presumably unavoidable and hopefully rare (at least in my experience). This is a hotfix, the choice of timing was when it suited Turbine best, not necessity of the smooth running of the server.
When was the last time Turbine scheduled a hotfix (not restart) for an evening during US peak hours? It certainly hasn't happened since we were brought over from codemasters. So dont think it just happens to EU players it happens to everyone.
No I don't expect them to listen, but then my comments were not aimed at Turbine.it suck but it is what it is and i honestly dont think they're going to listen to anyone and they will do it as they see fit.
Here's hoping they'd managed to squeeze in a last minute invisible horses fix... The floating players are just ridiculous.
Fixes are always great and appreciated. Please work on your communication though. A head's up will preempt some negativity.
(an aside, I'm astonished at some of the posts here that are being allowed to stand. People may not be happy with the OP's post and are fully within their rights to disagree with it, but that doesn't give them a right to be rude, CMs included.)

Hey everyone,
I'm sorry to announce this, but we're extending the downtime until 7:30 PM. We're troubleshooting a few issues over here, and we want to make sure that everything is ship shape before we re-open the game.
We'll keep everyone updated on our current status as we know more.

Dont understand why this couldnt have been done tomorrow with the rest of the maintenance that is happening then.
http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.p...-December-19thThe Turbine Account Maintenance site at http://myaccount.turbine.com will be brought down for maintenance on Wednesday, December 19th from 6:00 to 8:00 AM Eastern (-5 GMT). During this time, players will be unable to log into the game or make changes to their accounts. Players already in the game when the site is brought down will be unaffected unless they log out or are disconnected.p
Nothing mentioned is so urgent it could not wait till tommorrow, unless they are fixing more than they are telling us

EXACTLY. There are MMO type games everywhere in the world. If you pick an AMERICAN game made by an AMERICAN company, you are going to have to accept that downtime during OTHER COUNTIES prime time is a possibility. I'm sure that several European and Asian countries also make high-quality MMO type games that will not go down in those country's prime time.
A game will focus it downtime based on the largest community of players, combined with where the company is actually located, which respectively are Americans, and located in MA, USA.
So you miss a raid. Is that REALLY a big deal?
