    Thumbs up Not such bad things to know....

    ?Ok so here's a thread to post things in to make life on Crick easier... Either things you just happen to know or you can steal them from other threads just like this one and post them here, that's fine.

    Maybe everyone already knows them and maybe not. It doesn't matter. Just post em when you think of them.

    I'll get it started.

    1) So you're frustrated because you can't organize your legendary item tabs?
    They won't let you drag them and reorganize them like they look like they should.

    Just find the item you really want on that tab in your back pack (or put it there if it's equipped) and drag it on top of the item picture that's already on the tab you want to use.

    Presto! The item that's there will switch places on the tabs with the one you are dragging.

    2) So you can't get the field visible to click on when you're trying to get your crops in?
    Forget that right clicking!

    Press "delete" and then immediately press "u".

    Not only will it target your crops for you without you having to wiggle the mouse all over the fields, but if you have good tools, you'll be able to plant ten or more and then reap them, before they disappear for good.

    3) So now you've added user channels to your chat tabs and you have no idea which ones are what.

    Enter /listchannels to see which user channels are in what position on each tab.

    4) If you like the way your screen is arranged, but hate to do it all over again for a new character, then try this:

    Load the character which you have the best layout on.

    Type

    /ui layout save newtoon

    (and press enter)

    (where "newtoon" is just a name you make up to call your layout later.)

    Load the new chracter and type

    /ui layout load newtoon

    (and press enter)

    You'll still have to move your skill icons around and lock them into place, but now you should have your screen set up generally the way you like it.

    5) If you use Windows 7 SP1 and especially if you have an SSD and are very very low on disk space, here's some good news.
    "Update is available that enables you to delete outdated Windows updates by using a new option in the Disk Cleanup wizard in Windows 7 SP1"

    This is usually handled by the next service pack, but there aren't expected to BE any more service packs for Windows 7 (who knows...) and we've had 2 years of updates, which are now clogging up our drives... I'm willing to bet that some of us will save 1-2 gigs based on the comments on some of the articles I've been reading..
    This should have been installed already if your Windows Update is turned on. Just go to "disk cleanup" and make sure the box for "Windows Update Cleanup" is checked. The instructions are at the top of the first article.

    The only, yet important, issue with applying this is that it makes it more difficult to roll back to an earlier time, as you can not uninstall the updates. Just make sure you like the way your computer is functioning, really really well before you do this.

    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askpfepla...1-clients.aspx
    Important note: After performing this cleanup, you may not be able to uninstall any of the updates currently applied. However, if you need to rollback to a previous version, you can still manually apply the previous version of the update.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2852386

    6)

    If your camera keeps looking at your target instead of ahead of you, press "x"
    If your camera swings around and around while focusing on you, ALT-TAB out and then click back on the game to bring it back up.

    7) If you want to use an emote action but don't like what it says along with the action, you can customize by using the emote as in: /WhateverEmote (Put what you want to say here)
    It will then say your character name and then what you typed.

    If you just want to say something, but don't want to use an emote that has an included action, you can just use:
    /e Put what you want to say here.

    Pressing left and right mouse button at the same time makes you move forward
    Holding down only the left mouse button allows to control the camera angle, so if you were going forward with W and turning by 180° with the left mouse button and then press right mouse button you'd do an instant 180° turn.

    There are lots of great key-binding options people don't think of at first.
    The keys near wasd like r;t;y;f;g;h;x;v;b are all easy to access and you can combine them with all of the combination bind keys (alt, shift, ctrl and windows, which are used by pressing both keys at the same time for a+1 - Alt+1)

    Sorry for not sticking to the format :P

    GOT LAG? Part 1

    First, if you are an Nvidia user add lotroclient.exe to the list of GPU profiled programs and change the Power Management Mode settings in the nVidia control panel under Manage 3D Settings > Programs to Prefer Maximum Performance.
    (http://forums.lotro.com/showthread.php?503187-Less-than-stellar-poor-performance-with-a-GTX-670-until-I-changed-setting)

    Next, (hopes Mithgar just happens to wander in here and fix any mistakes lol)

    Try changing the setting in the userpreferences.ini file that deals with connection speed.

    In LOTRO, assuming you can get to the character select screen, you can seemingly choose the connection speed in options, troubleshoot page, but...well...read on

    First find out your connection speed
    www.speedtest.net
    wait for it to load, then click "Begin Test" Write down the numbers.

    (If the speed seems to be different than what is advertised, call the ISP's technical support or, if they are hopeless, there are some optimizing programs you can try. Just make sure to save your settings so you can go back to them if it flops.)
    http://www.downloadcrew.com/article/23452-auslogics_internet_optimizer
    or at
    http://auslogics-internet-optimizer.softpile.com/
    (Not free but free trial --->) http://download.cnet.com/Auslogics-BoostSpeed/3000-2094_4-10358299.html

    Take the higher of the two numbers you wrote down and multiply it by 1024.

    For example 10.00 x 1024 equals 10240.00

    This will be the maximum number you would ever consider putting in this setting.

    "Do not be tempted to raise this past your connected speed rate."
    https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/184209-quot-Troubleshooting-Connection-Issues-quot-quot-Understanding-Lag-quot-and-quot-Game-Connection-Speed-quot?

    Lets try half of our number and use 5000.00 since some users have reported great success with that.

    Under the "[NET]" section in the userpreferences.ini file, change the ConnectionSpeed setting to =5000.00

    Don't forget to leave on the .00

    ConnectionSpeed=0.00 is the default setting and is supposed to mean that your connection speed is auto detected by the server, but there may be a max involved. That's the theory it seems. That, or possibly some values are not being auto-detected properly due to ISP issues.

    If you go to the character select screen to OPTIONS and then into the troubleshooting section and look at the range you can set Connection Speed to, it ranges from 28.8 to 128. these appear *cough* *cough* to be modem speeds, which were ok back in the day. Changing it to the MAX of 128 gives the value in the userpreferences.ini file of ConnectionSpeed=128.00

    It has been reported that this setting change may help not only with lag but also in loading toons. Possibly the connection is sped up enough that in some cases it can get a toon loaded that might otherwise have had other connection issues causing it to time out. Of course, that is pure conjecture, but I have no other explanation unless/until Turbine weighs in on this one. I have to say however, that when I did this on my newer computer, it seemed to make no difference whatsoever, but if you've been having load issues, anything's worth a try.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~
    It might be advisable to change the user specified port to a number between 9000 and 9010 (more recent information puts this range at 9000-9013) when you do this. That assumes you are the only computer going through the router however. If you share the router with another computer that is also used for LOTRO, set the other one to a different value, such as one at 9000 and one at 9007.
    (remember that typically when you zone ports can change)
    Also remember that occasionally another program wants that port as well, so you might want to experiment slightly.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_TCP_and_UDP_port_numbe rs
    [Note: watch your connection reliability (packet loss/dropped conn) for any port issues and follow the connection stickies in the technical forums if you ever get "Connection to the server has been lost", a toon that won't load, a client crash, etc. Follow the sticky about how to get help in the technical forums if you need to post for help.]
    Using melee skills with longer animations such as the champions brutal strikes or burglars flashing blades only requires the player to be in melee range for the start of the skill animation, afterwards you can be where-ever and still have the skill finish.
    One noted (occasionally working) easy fix was to change the engine speed from very high to some lower setting then back to very high.
    Laptops
    http://support.turbine.com/ics/support/kbanswer.asp?deptID=24001&task =knowledge&questionID=360
    If you are running on integrated graphics, you want as much ram and as fast as your motherboard will support.
    If you can plug directly into the wall socket and not run on batteries, change your power saving setting to maximum performance.
    (For Windows 8 users, this setting is not visible by default.)
    Moors
    Run in DX9
    If you have plenty of memory (like 4+?), increase the texture cache to max.
    If you have even more, consider turning off virtual memory, even if you have an ssd.
    Hitching , Stuttering "Oh dear my FPS drops for a few seconds and goes back up" Links:
    Fix for Stutter Caused by AMD Phenoms
    Overheating
    Overheating can cause a cpu to throttle it's clock speed resulting in slowdowns (this could also apply to a GPU/video card)
    Is your heatsink making proper contact with your CPU?
    Make sure you have good airflow through the case and not just a bunch of fans blowing at each other. Zip your cables together. Blow the dust out of the case.
    Try disabling AMD Cool and Quiet in the bios if you have an AMD CPU. (Monitor the temp of the CPU so you don't go past the safe temp while you test.)
    Crossfire/SLI
    These can cause issues. Try playing after taking a card out.
    BIOS
    Check your mobo manufacturer or computer manufacturer to see if there's a bios update
    Conflicts
    Always try a clean boot Try a program like Game Booster.
    Try uninstalling drivers and using a sweeper and reinstalling.
    Make sure you have the correct versions of Framework installed. (not extended)
    Windows Settings
    Change power saving settings to "High Performance".
    NVidia Settings
    Set Power Management Mode to "Prefer Maximum Performance"
    Antivirus
    Try disabling this temporarily to check for a difference and consider adding the client to the list of real time scanning exceptions.
    Always perform manual scans!!! Password stealing viruses can attach to the game client and/or the backup.
    Drives
    Get an SSD.... really. Put the OS on it and LOTRO. A 64gig SSD is around $50US. A 128gig around $99 and a @256gig can be had for around $130. Tiger Direct recently had a 240gig on sale for Memorial day 2014 at $99. Pay attention to the read and write speed, which can vary greatly.
    If you just won't/can't do that, then at least check your disk for errors and defrag
    (Never defrag an SSD. While some rare defrag programs do cause a tiny bit of improvement, and you are unlikely to significantly hurt your drive with the meantime between failures that we have today, the results just aren't worth your time.)
    1) Copying the folders onto another drive and 2) deleting the originals, 3) checking the drive for errors and 4) defragging and then 5) finally copying the folders back may work better than just a defrag, although 1) deleting and 2) checking for errors then 3) defragging and 4) reinstalling will likely always be best, if you are stuck with your hard drive.)
    Or Try THIS. Based on the results in this thread, after a previous installation, it may be that all you need to do is copy over the files to a 32gig or larger flash drive. Some store usually has these on sale for cheap, although it is of note that the speed of these can vary quite a bit, and not just depending on whether it is the newer connection type of USB 3.0 (which you may or may not have currently on your computer in any case).
    Plugins
    Just a few to consider, in no special order (assuming they are currently updated).
    I know you folks use them more than I do. Feel free to post what you use and why.
    1) DailyTasks "Simply tell it to list "unuseable" items and everything that is listed as below your character's level will be listed (and if you have alts in the right range it will list them). It also lists items *above* your level, but since it also lists the levels this shouldn't be a problem." ~a user
    (Often you can sell Task Items on the AH for more than you can vendor them for - especially end game ones, so keep that in mind, if you have the unused ah slots. Just make sure you add the posting fee to what you want out of them.)
    2)
    BuffBars "This plugin provides a bar view(icon, name, timer) or slider view(all effects on one bar) of buffs, debuffs, and pot cooldowns you have on your character. It also includes a dynamic quickslot bar that will popup when curable debuffs or low morale/power conditions exist on you character to enable you to quickly clear the effect."
    3) Alt Inventory "Alt Inventory allows you to view a snapshot of your alt's bag inventory, vault and shared storage without leaving game so that you know which character has how many of which item."
    4) LotRO Plugin Compendium (Windows) (Mac/Linux) A Java utility app that assists in downloading, extracting and updating most of the plugins from lotrointerface.com, if the plugin author has included a file to make their plugin compatible.
    5) Warden Ease 2 (I have no idea what wardens use, if anything, but this looked interesting....)
    WardenEase creates three bars that hold all of your gambits and another bar with quickslots. When you click on a gambit from one of the three bars, the quickslots are filled with the gambit building skills needed to execute the gambit. Simply click the skills in order to execute it.
    6) Palantir2 "basically a morale/power HUD with pot-able debuff indicators"
    7) Lotropad AltViewer Simplynotes (Make Notes, be happy.)
    8) Lotro Alerts "watches chat for a user specified text string and flashes a big alert on the screen" (Some bosses like to tell us when to run away)
    9) Combat Analysis
    10) PvMP+
    Good Place to compare video cards and to help see what they will require from your power supply. Several people have commented that Lotro seems to run better on a single NVIDIA card rather than ATI or sli/crossfire. If you can afford it, get a card from the seventh tier down on the Gaming CPU Hierarchy Chart or better. My personal favorite "bang for the buck" price point (that I can't afford lol) is the 760.
    VIP Mail
    If you're VIP, one of the better ways to get to your mail while out in the wild is to remap the mailbox to your toolbars.
    One way people do this is by going to system - options - ui settings - toolbar right slot 1 - and change to mailbox
    just an fyi, i have been having a heck of a time with the keybinding working (as intended). i open the menu - goto keybindings - find mailbox - create the keybinding and then click "accept" and close the window. after doing this, the keybind works great ... until i log out at which point when i log back in, the keybind is gone. i had this problem the other day when i was using cntrl+shift+m as my keybind and when i asked in world chat, it was suggest not using 3 keys - so i changed to just cntrl+m and it worked and after i logged out and in, it kept working .. until the next day when i logged in again and now it is gone. any ideas, thoughts or suggestions?
    Sounds like you don't have permission to save to the keymapping file. Is this windows 8 by chance? If so, try doing it under the default admin account and also right click the folders and view who has permission so you can change it if necessary.
    Also some other folks were having issues saving keymappings, so you might want to look through old technical help articles in that section.
    thank you for reply. yes, it is indeed windows 8 that i use. however, i am the only "user' on this virtually brand new computer. tbh, i am a bit naive when it comes to such things. i should (had better) have ultimate authority to make whatever changes i want to my own computer >< i know when Origin or Steam wants to update their files on my computer, a screen pops up asking me if i authorize such activity and i am able to make it so.
    Shire Deed/TP Route
    Placeholder for Shire TP run (obviously not finished)
    ....does not include the epic quest prologue line, at this time, but I did throw in the quests that seemed on the way.
    It sorta starts like this......
    Start at MICHEL DELVING
    Quests: Become a Bounder, Close up their Burrows, Hide and Seek (2), Take the “Refurbishing the Town Hole” quest and "Worries from Waymeet", then carry the postmaster’s mail East to Waymeet, making sure to go out the back of Michel Delving, South to SOUTH FIELDS (34.3S 74.4), for Farms of Shire Deed (34.3S 74.4W) FARMS
    At Waymeet, Wolf slayer: Do Dora’s 3 quests while killing wolves. Go North along the road and 1st R to DORA’S FARM (31.3S 72.7W) FARMS and the Wolf Den is North of the farm.
    Carry Waymeet’s postmaster’s mail to Needlehole and continue the “Refurbishing the Town Hole” quest. Take the “Daffodil is Missing” quest.
    Slug slayer: RUSHOCK BOG to kill slugs and find Daffodil. Do one complete counterclockwise circle around the bog and get the moneybag toward the end of the loop in the fenced-in dwarf camp. Return to Needlehole and continue the Daffodil quest line until you get “Collect Orders”. Do another circle around the bog and collect the orders toward the end by killing a dwarf brigand.
    Spider slayer: East along North ridge till spider valley Kill all once then go further East till road.
    Cross river then BROCKENBORINGS Visit Stables and get quests “Distant Dangers”, “The Plough & Stars”, and “Bears on the Greenfield” Use the hobbit lamp post, North side of town near windmill.
    Go to Scary. Get quests “Restless Roost” (bats), “Spiders in the Quarry”, “The Fate of Prunella Boffin”. Continue “The Plough & Stars” (and turn in the Prologue quest “Lunch for William Tunnely” if you happen to have it).
    Spider slayer: Kill all spiders in SCARY QUARRY (27.9S 65.7W) SIGHTS and in cave. Turn in “Spiders in the Quarry”. Get “Mail for Brockenborings” and take mail to Brockenborings.
    Goblin slayer: North toward EVENDIM. Both West and East sides have a goblin camp. Kill bears on the way. Get umbrella in West goblin camp all the way at the top. Jump down and head to East goblin camp and get “Sheep theft” quest.
    Finish goblin slayer, get gypsum in the cart and escort sheep. Turn in “Sheep theft” quest.
    Travel North to Oatbarton to open the stable and take horse back to Brockenborings and turn in the three quests.
    Head South and East and kill bats. Go back to Scary and turn in bat quest and umbrella. Finish spider slayer if needed.
    S on main road to BUDGEFORD. Get All Quests. The Spectre of the Black Rider can also be done if nighttime or near. Save “The Trouble with Harvest Flies” till last.
    Do quests in this order 1) “The Veiled Menace”, 2) “A Few Pages Short”, 3) “A Taste for Pork” (& continue and defeat wolves, and turn in now) Large ruined wall. BRIDGEFIELDS WALL. (30.5S 64.1W) SIGHTS 4) Get “Howling at Midnight” (vale height) Turn in “A Few Pages Short” and get “The Menace Confronted” (toward Frogmorton in the water)
    S to PUDDIFOOT’S FIELDS (31.1S 64.2W) FARMS Kill more wolves if needed.
    Harvest Fly slayer: NW until road then N. Kill all on hill with small ruin then rotate down and kill everything in the valley surrounding and fields to the West then repeat until done, or come back later, as there are not other places for these.
    S to large tower, STOCKTOWER. (33S 63.6W) SIGHTS
    SE to BAMFURLING FARM (34.3S 64.5W) FARMS
    Back to Harvest Flies one last time (you hope)
    Brigand slayer: West on road, waterfall top on left. Cross waterfall to kill Brigands until done or rotate back to Flies.
    West down the road, thru the fence on Left. OLD ODO’S LEAF FARM (33.8S 68.0W) FARMS
    S and slightly W Tree surrounded by lake. GREAT WILLOW. (33.6S 70.4W) SIGHTS
    Turn around back to road W, large hill on R, go straight over hill, NW to METHEL STAGE. (32.5S 69.9W) SIGHTS
    N on road and cross the river.Up hill on left Large tree. PARTY TREE. (29.9S 71.5W) SIGHTS
    Stone fence to West, hop over to APPLEDORES (29.4W 72.0W) FARMS
    S to get quest from hobbit & pick apples.
    Overhill quests?
    North up the river to the Bog to kill any remaining slugs and/or go back to Stock for Harvest Flies.
