Thank you Digero for your efforts. As for the names, I would prefer that you use the names that are listed in-game. (Lute, Lute of Ages, Harp, Misty Mountain Harp) to avoid confusion. Also, can you turn down the volume on the lute so that it matches the lute in-game? There's a large disparity between the two and makes transcribing very difficult.

    Hey,
i use Lute, AgeLute,Harp and MistyHarp if i transcribe Songs since 16.1. Anyone from my band can see which Lute/Harp they have to use. So what you do you think about this , digero?

Ok so it sounds like I'll probably stick to the instrument names given in-game to avoid confusion: "Lute", "Lute of Ages", "Harp", and "Misty Mountain Harp". That means that any ABC part named Lute will use the new lute sounds by default in ABC Player. You'd need to change the part name to Lute of Ages to use the old sounds.

I wish they'd kept the old sounds for the Lute instrument, and given the new sounds to a new instrument. But alas

I did request they swapped the names about but it fell on deaf ears. So I had to change 4148 files!

Thank you so much, Digero. Having had to struggle along without Maestro in the buildup to our Weatherstock pre-concert, we now have even more gratitude and appreciation for your wonderful program (as if it wasn't already epic in scale ^^).

I would really prefer Lute Of Ages just be called Lute. That other piece of crud won't get used often in any of my songs. I would call it New Lute. Keep LOA as Lute.

Ok I changed my mind again after listening to the new lute sounds some more. It's just ugly compared to the old lute.

In Maestro and ABC Player, the instruments will be called "Lute of Ages" and "Basic Lute". If you open an ABC file or MSX file that uses either of those full names in a part title, then it will use the respective instrument. However, if you open an ABC or MSX file that just uses "Lute" in the title of a part, it'll default to Lute of Ages.

In other words, unless the part name has "Basic Lute" in it, then any Lute part will use Lute of Ages.

Depending on how much time I have, I might be able to make that a configurable option, so you can choose to use the new Basic Lute by default for parts named "Lute".

(Still working on the new version -- I don't have much time on weekdays to work on it.)

Some SongbookBB (that's Nimelia's Songbook released this winter) features requires part names to be unique (within a tune) and have a full, recognized instrument name in order to work properly. And all this within the first 63 characters of the part name.

So it would be good to have abbreviations for the long-ish instrument names. Last i heard, Nimelia thought she'd do LuteA and MMHarp in addition to the full names of Lute of Ages and Misty Mountain Harp, respectively.

And even better if all the various tool makers agreed on terminology and abbreviations. Please.

Also, if I got it right, all of the woodworker-crafted lutes play like Basic Lute, don't they? I think it best to accept that our good old lute has changed its name and save our energy for importanter issues.

After all, even with thousands of files (4148 files are more than one file per day LOTRO has existed), updating instrument names in all of them can be done with file search and replace tools.

    Alright, new version is here!

    Maestro v2.3.0
    https://github.com/digero/maestro/releases

    What's New
    • Added the new instruments Lute of Ages and Misty Mountain Harp from update 16.1.
      • Any Lute part in ABC Player and Maestro will use Lute of Ages for the ABC preview, unless it contains "Basic Lute" (or "New Lute") in its title, in which case it'll use the Basic Lute.
    • Updated the note sounds for the Clarinet, Flute, Drum, Horn, and Basic Lute notes that were changed in update 16.1.
    • Adjusted the volume levels of all instruments to match what's in the game.
    • Slightly tweaked the volume levels in ABC Player for note dynamics (+ff+, +mp+, etc) to more closely match the game.

I added support for ABC Player and Maestro to understand some instrument nicknames that people have mentioned in this thread, when opening ABC files. E.g. for Lute of Ages: AgeLute, LuteA. For Basic Lute: NewLute, LuteB. For Misty Mountain Harp: MistyHarp, MMHarp.

Maestro will by default use the full name of the instrument for new parts: Lute of Ages, Basic Lute, Misty Mountain Harp, etc. You can of course change the part names however you want.

    Thank you very much, Digero!

My band has been calling the Lute of Ages, LOA, and the Misty Mountain Harp, MMH.

Hey Digero, I send you a PM here on the forum with some suggestions concerning the volume dynamics to be even closer to the game.

Nice work on the new instruments!

Well, I started to add my thanks yesterday, but, without a signature appendage for my posts, my "Me too" comment did not satisfy the 10-word minimum required for posting unless I included a bunch of unnecessary rambling to fill space, which I was in too much of a hurry for then (words don't come easy, do they?) but have plenty of time to do now because the worlds are currently down for the hotfix, and, moments ago, I had to stop playing around with the revised Maestro because the battery on my headphones ran out and, even though my new machine has pretty nice builtin speakers, I don't want to disturb anyone else while I'm editing tunes, and, so, I'm checking the forum while waiting for the headset to finish recharging.
