Faythe woke up in Rohan the other day but her player got an 'out of memory' error. Since this is a new computer, I have to wonder...
Not much doing this summer. The spouses cataract surgery used up much of my time off and made a good dent in the ole' savings account.
In the fall, we will travel to the Smokies and will visit the older son in Atlanta. He's just moved and I want to give him a chance to settle. Next spring we plan on visiting Kahnya in the Great North. He'll be coming here for Christmas.

Next year will be a large change. The Spouse plans on retiring. I say plans because he's passed the usual age for retirement and keeps moving it out. We will see.

    That's all for now.

    Hugs and Muffins!

    Hello Landrovalrim,

Faythe, so good to hear from you. I hope hubby will be well soon.

As far as me, I am still playing secret world, but I am logging in to Lotro too. Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth was one of my favorite minor characters, and I want to see his castle and maybe his daughter, too.

If anyone is interested, I have a blog now, and I am continuing the Edjumication traditions. Just google Gombur.com. Hope you like it.

    Have a good one all.

    Hey Landrovalrim,

Hope everyone is enjoying the new expansion. Its rather better than the last few, imho. Yes I am actually playing a bit, several times a week in fact.

There is some new stuff over at Gombur.com. There is an edjumication about the first world war. Yesterday was the 100th anniversary of the start of that world-changing event.

There are also a few posts by Gom and me concerning music. Gom got a hold of my cd's and stereo system, and has been rocking pretty hard, so he picked some songs that we both like and I am commenting on some back story about the music. enjoy.

I hope to have some of the old Dwarven roleplay Hockey re-posted soon.

    Take care all,

    Doc

Hi Faythe, it was so good to see you in game the other day, even if you didn't say much. I hope hubby and the rest of your family are ok. I really miss the stories about your workplace.

Well since I last posted, there are a lot of new things on my website, Gombur.com. Come take a look.

*makes Grammy's pumpkin custard and apple spice cake*

So, the spooky season is approaching? Is anyone making plans to celebrate? I'm planning on being a witch (again) as we do the various events about town. It's such an easy, comfy costume. I may top it off with my daughter's Gandalf hat, just to add my own touch. Not sure what my daughter will be. So far, she's wanted to be a 70s girl, Bastet, Sabine (from Star Wars Rebels), a skeleton ballerina, & a Monster High character. I expect at least 3 more ideas before we decide.
Sorry, I'm out of clever sayings for sigs. :(

Well even though a great deal has changed, I still wear the CH t-shirt with pride.

You all should hop in game more, the channel misses you. Or maybe it's just me, I don't know. But the Chillas definitely do.

I come back after a very long absence to see the Coffee House is still here, albeit somewhat decaf with age. While I never posted very much, I did always take a moment to read the thread. It's part of Landroval, as it should be. By this thread at least I am comforted in my effort to overcome several years accumulation of "####! what does this do? I don't remember that!"

Wow. I have not been here in some time. I hope everyone has been well and doing wonderfully. I have been absent(game and forum) for nearly a year due to a flesh eating disease in my sinus, brain, and eyes and truly it has been a long road to travel. There and back again, if you will. But now I feel as if I have cheated death and returned. I have endured much, missed much of this game and am now desirous of a wonderful historical rendition from Doc.

    ")

So, Doc, will you not regal us with a historical tale of some long ago heroic tale?

    Sincerely,

    Val

Been playing LOTRO for a while now (almost a year) and I think it's time to get to know the Landroval community.

**sits down to a table, pulls out a pipe and orders a coffee. I'll have something with just a hint of sweetness a dab of cream.**

*Leaving a company of hobbit folk outside, enters the coffeeshop, orders a Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper and sits in a comfortable chair, facing the stage where the musicians are practicing with their new instruments and re-arranging old songs.*

I do hope this goes well. The musicians have been an important part of the community for a long time. We would all be much poorer without them.

*raises a glass* To the Musicians! *takes a deep drink*

Seven years I have been living in these lands - only came into the coffee shop a few times. Mostly on account of I prefer to be in-character. This place used to be a lot more crowded. It was a sadness to see it fade. Mayhaps it deserves some attention.

I'm sort of between two games at the moment. Lotro, and WoW. (On the WoW roleplaying forums, I'm known as Bryah.) About the only thing keeping me in wow, aside from friends that still play, is the role-playing forums. I tend to be a bit shy as I'm still learning the game and the lore. However, I'm getting to the stage where I need to start meeting other players and getting involved in the social side of the game.

I'm hoping the community here is a lot less toxic than the wow community and would love to meet you all in game (My main is my elf guardian, Gwilwilethil)

    *Turns to the newcommer.*

Ah . . . LOTRO in general, and Landroval in specific, has a fine reputation in that regard. I don't pay attention to "World" chat, but in my seven years I've seen little to complain about among the community. There's a bad apple or two - always is. Amongst my friends we call them cabbagers. That has to do with an episode in the Shire when Tweens would break into the ale houses and throw cabbages in the kegs. But I digress.

As that signature below indicates, you will see me in-game as Meadowlarke Sweetweed - Chief, Bounders of the Shire kinship, or Eclairians Alphred Troute and Hedgerow Shrewburrow (and other assorted hobbits). Meadowlarke stays mostly in the Shire. The Eclairians are in the Rivendell /Misty Mountains area.

Welcome Gwilwilethil, and I hope your stay here is great. I have had a great time on Landroval, and haven't yet run into any issues with people. Tiempko is totally right though, there are bad apples as expected, but seems to be less here.

Gombur enters the coffee-house and brushes the half inch of dust off his favorite stool. Wilson, the Chinchilla Barista and commander of the famed Chinchilla Brigade, gives him a look that says "Where in the heck have you been???" Ashamed, Gombur has no answer. Wilson chitters something in Chinchilla-ese, and a huge tankard of Ale appears before the weary Dwarf. "On the house," says the Chinchilla.

It was by chance that I looked at the forums today, and was startled and pleased to see a few posts in what had become a sadly neglected coffee house. I am so very pleased to hear from Val again; I know you were going through hell, and glad to hear that you are recovering.
I am also very pleased to see some new faces. Welcome, Gombur, Guardian of the Seven Stars, at your service and your family's. /bow

So what happened to the Coffee House? Well, people stopped playing, moved away, or lost interest. The forums were wonky for a long time, and folks had a lot of trouble accessing and posting, and that really had an effect. I fought for as long as I could to keep going, but I gave up too eventually.

But, the Coffee House didn't die. Val referred to my historical posts in her comments. Some of my friends convinced me in August to start my own blog, so I could continue my "edjumications" and I eventually did. So instead of the Coffee House, there is Gombur.com!! Its a free site, and I can do so much more audio-visually to present history than I could on these forums.

The site is called "Gombur's Halls. The idea behind it as that one night, Radagast the Brown and Gombur got drunk, and Radagast has smoked a bit too much pipeleaf. He cast a spell on Gom which landed him in my apartment in 21st century Chicago.

Naturally, Gombur was very curious about the history of our time, and he also likes the music. So since 2014 was the 100th anniversary of World War I, we started his edjumications there. I covered the run up to the war, and the first, pivotal month of the conflict, ending with the famous French victory at the Marne. Then I started on my favorite subject from this period; one that I mentioned I was going to do when the Coffee House was still going good. Its the story of the evolution of the Dreadnought battleship and battle cruiser and the Naval Conflict in WWI.. My last post was the prelude to the great battle of Jutland.

As I said, there is a music section,. I play drums, and when I play Gom wants to know what I am playing. He has access to my cd's, and limited access to my vinyl records. (I don't think he understands vinyl; he may think its some sort of licorice! So there is a lot of music.

Finally, there is a section called "The Coffee House in exile. I am slowly retrieving posts from the five years of Coffee House stuff that is still there to be saved. I have two seasons of Dwarven Hockey roleplay (tm) There is also an explanation of the history of the Coffee House, and the Chinchilla's!

I am going to continue to post the edjumications there, if only because I can do so much more with them. But now that I know that there is still a Coffee House of sorts going, I will check every day. I will also let the people who still hang out on the Landroval coffee house facebook page know, and I will provide a link to that page.

You folks are welcome to my website, and you can reply to any of the posts. Please give me feedback. I don't make a penny off it, and I will post updates here as I finish stuff.

Finally, Val, I think there are at least 40 history edjumication posts, so you have your work cut out for you!

Thanks for the welcomes and the comments. It's good to hear that my initial impressions are likely to be the correct ones.

I'm an Australian player, in the same time zone as Sydney (the city) and usually play during the day. I hope to see you both in game at some point.

Oh ... very cool, that probably puts you playing more during my time (9pm PST to midnight). If you ever need a hand or company, give me a shout ... there aren't as many folks on during my play time. I am lucky to have one guy from Australia in my Kinship who keeps me company, but the more the merrier. LOL.
