Player Guide: Class Changes Summary: Minstrel

Frodo: "What are we holding onto, Sam?"
Sam: "That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for."

    Quick Links:

    Mechanical Changes
These are misc changes not specifically tied to any one skill but change how you play and use skills

    Stance Changes
there is no "off" stance anymore. you have 3 stances now. inductions have been reduced to 1s (these can be reduced further with traits) with a 5s cooldown. only one stance can be active at a time. you can not turn off stances. when you log out, you should remain in that stance when you log back in.

stances now effect piercing cry and heralds strike along side melody of battle, anthem of the third-age and your Coda.

for a more in-depth explination, link here: Stance Changes Explained

    Short Version

    The Watcher of Resolve
A healing line that performs powerful buffs,
The Watcher of Resolve restores Morale with great frequency and potency.

ROLE: High Single-Target Healing, High AoE Healing, medium Utility, medium Group Support

Gameplay: the Watcher of Resolve is a main healer and heart of the fellowship. Almost all your rotation will focus on distributing the right buffs to heal when the time comes. For example, building up Snowball and being ready for when your group needs the heals. mobility is an important factor when healing group content and this line has many ways to help in reducing your induction or just giving options to heal on the move like Inspiring Echos. Call to Iroeth is an extremely powerful skill in this line and knowing what to use it on when it crucial, leaving it off cooldown is an option but it's short so make use of it. The Watcher of resolve has some of the best cooldowns, one of which being Legand of the Hammerhand, pre-emtively using this skill to make sure less bubbles gets popped will mean an enormous group heal.

    The Warrior-Skald
The Warrior-Skald delivers raw and potent damage,
    can circumvent enemy defences,
and employ deadly Minstrel skills more frequently.

ROLE: High Burst Damage, High Mobility, medium Crowd Control, medium AoE damage

Gameplay: While not the best damaging line in the game it's the minstrel best. Rotations can be very fast and demanding because of traits line Haste that means every ballad played will reduce the active cooldown on all of your cries and calls. You can plan and build up for burst damage using traits like Discordant Ballads to build of tactical damage buffs. Cry of the Wizards being the capstone will literally let you run rings around your enemy with all of your damaging skills being usable on the move. If your getting low and Need some real heals, make sure to do it after a critical hit as Concentration will make you immune to interrupts and induction setback for a short time.

    The Protector of Song

The Protector of Song casts forth powerful buffs and upgraded
    Anthems to provide combat versatility.

The change to The Melody/Echoes/Timeless Echoes of Battle effects aren't quite right. Timeless Echoes of Battle is stated as being given to both Resonance and Dissonance, which isn't accurate. Also, aren't the effects when in Melody and Resonance backwards?

Hey Bohb, I suspect you missed my post in the beta forum. Anyway, I just need you to update that the main-hand major legacy "-10% healing threat" has been changed to "-10% skill induction". Thanks in advance!

Just my opinion, and I'm still holding out hope:

But as I see it, Red DPS has been nerfed, survive-ability in solo is less. Yellow is almost useful. Blue is good to go.

    We are basically healbots again

No idea. Make a creep and come join me at grams. If you go first and draw the hunter fire, I might get to the mini to see if it's edible.

In the moors, minstrels are healbots now and involuntary primary targets again. Captain healers are severely weakened, too, and are easier to kill as well in most cases. So it´s good news for the creeps I think. Just keep an eye on the same Keeper of Animals loremasters you previously laughed at

    yay NDA lifted

I'll try my best to answer any questions here and update the gaps I've missed in the guide (LI changes)

red minstre - same ish dps but more more squishy. will stun more and a lot more skills will be used. there dps is pretty low atm but we all assume there going to be eventually balanced up to be higher.

yellow minstrel - very powerful but can't just spam heal and spam dps, they need to switch. this will probably be the minstrel way to go in moors but both dps and healing won't be as good as the others.

blue minstrel - crazy high heals (and very mobile) but not much else.

Noob question: why is Rally both listed as an earned skill by leveling, and also the tire 6 Blue set bonus? When I logged in and trait-ed all Red, I was still granted Rally. When I trait-ed all Blue, I got the same Rally. Am I missing something with my bad eyes?

    Thank you.

in the last beta is got changed to a general skill so I updated it, however, I forgot to update the trait.

the trait is currently doing nothing and I guess something needs new need to be implemented there.

I'll update the trait and say there is currently nothing there.

    In a nutshell. Exactly this.

Guess on the dps, we're waiting now to see on what the improvement will be as part of the changes announced for later in beta. It seems that we're also going to be looking at ongoing changes post-release too. Just hope that some of the more blatant kinks are worked out before live.

I'm going to miss noble cause :'( whacking things with a mace was my trademark.

With that and call of earendil gone and anthem of the wizard at the bottom of the red line, doesn't the yellow line have very little to offer damage wise ? Ballad spam + coda ?

We actually still have Noble Cause, it's just only the on-Coda effect in yellow spec. We just don't have the Skill Noble Cause anymore. Oh, and now the buff is called War-Speech. You know, because that won't confuse anyone...

HOPEFULLY we'll see some chunky dps changes before it goes live. as a whole the minstrels dps is awful in beta

assuming we do get some chunky dps balancing in the minstrels favour, ofc you'd expect red line to do the most dps (duhhh).

so if your traiting yellow for dps your probably going the wrong way, unless you want to buff your groups dps, in which case your probably doing the right thing. the line looks very good at being a kinda weird captain, healing while damaging. with the trait Change of Pace you can get garenteed crits to dps skills when you heal and crits to heals while you dps. so your actually rewarded with dps when you heal... weird... you can get some sweet aoe with coda with using this ofc.

speccing yellow but traiting red and staying is dissonance might sound insane, but you will still be able to buff your groups dps and have call of orome to use every 10s. you'll also be able to use call of the second age a lot more, maybe even enough to constantly keep up it's group buffs (need to test that!). with anthems that can stack, you *might* be able to get close to a garenteed critical on your coda using anthem of war too.

You need to ad a note that call of orome when used as ranged corruption removal is currently bugged (or was as of last sunday) and 'removes corruptions from our fellows'.
Hunter parry reponse still listed for whasit-mentioned below.
