A "golden chicken" is what you get after you have completed all of the "Flying the Coop" deeds. Upon completing those deeds, you have the ability to acquire a "Free Range" (or "golden") chicken - which can exist in chicken play for up to 8 hours.

So . . . chicken progression goes as follows:

    (1) Go to Sandson's Farm in the Shire and complete the first three chicken farm quests. NOTE: On the schedule, there will be people at Sandson's Farm to help you through this during the "Green Eggs" (which is basically green or new chicken) events.

    (2) Go through the "Flying the Coop" deeds - travels to such places as Evendim, Lone Lands, and Trollshaws. During the "Flying the Coop" events on the schedule, there will be people around to help you with these and to provide escort to deal with chicken-murdering beasts you may encounter along the way.

    (3) At this point, you will have a "Golden Chicken" and you will be able to participate in free range events such as the Crosser of Roads deed and longer trips to Isengard, Mordor, and Dale. Or going to Minis Tirith and jumping off of that platform at the top.

There are a lot of chicken events, so I am trying to make it easier for people to see what is happening next.

I will be modifying the initial post in this thread as the month goes by.

Also, here is the next event:

    NEXT EVENT

Tuesday, August 6, 7:00 PM: Green Eggs Camp: First Steps.

Hologro will lead new chicks through the beginner quests, to get them on their way. Meet at Sandsons's Farm.

There is a set of chicken quests that one must perform before one can have a chicken that go on the "Flying the Coop" events. Hologro will be at Sandsons's Farm, northeast of Michel Delving, to help those who wish to get through these quests so that they can have a chicken worthy of going through the Flying the Coop events that will follow. Players can do these on their own at any time, but sometimes a bit of help and company is welcome.

This August - the Month of the Chicken - you can expect us (The Bounders of the Shire kinship and our associated friends and allies) to run our full range of Month of the Chicken Events.

These will allow anybody so interested an opportunity to complete the quests and deeds so as to end the month with a fully trained and equipped adventuring chicken.

The first event, as per tradition, is Li'l Meadowlarke Sweetweed's Shire Chicken Race - August 1 - if one is looking ahead.

Green Egg events actually start in late July for getting newly hatched chicken through the first challenges so as they can participate in Chicken events.

    Stay tuned.

In the past, we have offered Green Egg Camps where folks that needed other runs (or just needed to be introduced to the world of chickens) could get help at guaranteed times. There are some kins that run the "local" Free Range quests, but they are catch as catch can.

The idea has been kicked around to offer another Green Egg Camp month well prior to the MotC, but for various reasons it never gained traction. Part of the issue was some folks wanted them on holly days, but others would be too busy holly day-ing to join in. Also, we now have many fill ins on weekends (regular hobnabs, Dwarf mining, etc), call backs to holly days, and it's also hard to work around regular band playing, and even stable adventure groups. So we found ourselves in a bind as when might work for many instead of a scant few.

Since the need is still evident, I'll put my thinking cap back on and see what we can do despite all the challenges. We have done Free Wing runs with local routes, as they are a bit easier if none of the chickens take undue risks. Most Free Range runs also aren't too hard with a few tenders as long as the chickens keep their wits about them.

It's those longer runs that need large chicken tender parties to keep as many chickens as possible safe that also eat up huge chunks of time to run them to completion (Crosser of Roads, Amon Hen, Chickengard, Fried Eggs, etc.). They are the trickiest to schedule.

Still...if nothing else, let us know which run(s) you need, and maybe we can work from there.
