Eagle, get out of the #%# way!

So, the eagle is a great pet in a fight. Other times though, it's in the way. In the way when I click on a resource node, or a door, etc. "You can't use that." No kidding, really!?!

Is there a setting or something I'm missing to enable me to click through it? Or one to make it follow further away? Or something?

Not that I know of. I play the Onyx Lynx but when I tried the Eagle for a while I got too frustrated with it being in the way with the same problems you mentioned.

Though I would guess that scrolling all the way in to almost a first person perspective would pretty much negate the problem.

I may not be remembering correctly, but I don't recall having the problem with the third person over the shoulder perspective being a problem before the Riders of Rohan Expansion. Now as you are following behind you get slapped in the face with every bloody tree you are running through.

Options > Key Mapping > Selection > Select Nearest Item and map a key to it .
Options > Key Mapping > Miscellaneous > Use Selection and map a key to it.

Hit delete and U in-game to test it. They're the defaults. Don't click on objects. In fact, don't click on anything. Use your keyboard. It simplifies things.

You can also do this for NPC's and fellows. There are default keys for them, but I remapped mine, so you'll have to look up what they are.

[F10] + [U] = select and talk to nearest NPC (default keys). To select fellows the defaults are [F2], [F3] etc.

To clarify a little, if you're in a fellowship with other players, [F1] selects yourself and then [F2], [F3], etc. selects the other players in your group if you want to perform an action on them (heal that player, remove debuffs from them, target the mob targeted by them, etc).
