Cool LotRO Companion 11.0 (character planner, character status tracker, lore compendium)

It's been almost one year since the last major update of this application (10.0)... So now here is version... 11.0!!

See https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthr...lotrocompanion for the previous version. You can go back in history like this until you reach the very first version. Another way is to search 'lotrocompanion' in the forum.

This version includes some major revamp of a lot of internal mechanics. The main one being a clear separation of item 'models' (read-only) and item 'instances' (the ones used for gear simulation).

    It also includes new features:

    - possibility to import item instances from the game client, using a dedicated plugin.
    - improved item edition, with support for all legendary stuff
    - quests database consultation UI with detailed search filter (for rewards)
    - accurate deeds database
    - support for stout-axe
    - support for 2 guilds on the same character

Embedded data has been updated to match with Update 25.0.2:

    - level cap at 130
    - items, relics, maps, deeds, quests
    - rating to percentage formulas
    - new factions for MM
    - new crafting tier, new guild tier

    Quests explorer:

    with single quest details display:

    Legendary items edition:

    Support the 2nd guild:

    Revamped item edition:

You can have a look at http://sourceforge.net/projects/lotrocompanion/.
Just download the distribution archive, unzip and run (readme.txt file describes how to use it).
    The desktop application is here:
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/lot...2.zip/download
The plugin is also available on SourceForge:
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/lot...0.zip/download

Some user documentation (mainly howtos) can be found here:
    https://github.com/dmorcellet/lotro-...anual/index.md
You will find the detailed procedure to setup the plugin and import game items into the application.

Works on Windows (OpenJDK Java runtime included), and also Linux and MacOS, using a shell script.

Any feedback will be gladly appreciated in this thread or at lotrocompanion@gmail.com
It's also open source on github: https://github.com/dmorcellet/lotro-companion (see also child projects lotro-core, lotro-maps, lotro-tools...).

    Additional screenshots

    Some more screenshots:

    - the virtues edition window now takes care of the 'virtuous ...' trait to give additional points (only for the equipped virtues):

    - new maps. Here is the map of Minas Morgul (thanks dynmaplotro):

    - edition window for a legendary item (in fact its a hub for 3 edition child windows: main attributes, stats and legendary stuff):

    More screenshots later!

This is absolute magic. Thank you for all your work!

Thanks a lot. That is not magic, but a lot of dedication for this game.

I'd like to have feedback on the 'import items from game using chat links' feature.
Does it work for you? It works fine for me, but I'd love to know if it works also for others.

    Useful piece of kit...but

This looks like a really useful bit of kit, as it says in the title. The but is...has anyone ever got it to work on a mac?

I've tried driving it with terminal using the .sh file but just get a bundle of Java script errors!

It used to work on a Mac but I did not test it for a while (I do not own a Mac...).
Could you please send a file with the errors at lotrocompanion@gmail.com? I will have a look and try to fix that.

Thank you for making this! I will be checking it out this weekend.

Edit: Looks like you made this in VC++ and/or Java? And GNU2 license (why not GNU3?). I'm a software developer, so I'm always interested in seeing the source code, thanks again for keeping it open source.

The current downloadable version should work on Linux and Mac using the provided .sh script.
For those who do not want to redownload the whole thing, the patched script is here:
    https://github.com/dmorcellet/lotro-...roCompanion.sh.

Tell me if you got it to work!

Its full Java and so portable Windows/Linux/Mac. May be some tricks about the path of game files if you're not on Windows.
The source code is available on GitHub (see in the first post, or in my signature).
I'm not really aware of licence details, but sure it is open-source.

Very nice. I tried this a few versions back, but manually entering everything into it made it a little too much work to keep up with for as many toons as I run. I'd always wondered if there was a way to import info from the game and glad to see that functionality in the new versions!

How do I load a character?

    This looks great.

However, how do I export a character into the companion? I have the plugin loaded and can turn on/off the chat logging.
Do I need to do everything by hand in the companion?

Once the plugin is loaded and turned on, then every item linked into the chat will be available in the desktop application.
So if you want to import all your gear, then you have to link all the equipped items (1 by message).

In the companion, create a character with the same name/class/server. Then open a character configuration. Then right click on a gear slot. You should have a chooser with (at least) the item you linked for that slot. Repeat for each slot.

Sometimes it does not work for *some* legendary items. So try with armour or jewelry first.

Sadly this is the best we can do with the current LUA API. And using the chat to grab items is really a trick!
The LUA API gives access to some description of the current gear, but it is not precise enough (no item ID so name ambiguities, no essences, no scaling info, nothing for legendary items).

    Enjoy!

    Patch error

I got an error message when I used terminal to run the patch

    /Downloads/LotRO Companion/LotroCompanion.sh: Permission denied

I tried a general cchmod command to reset the permissions for files in the lotro companion folder but still get the error message. Might be the age of my machine or it's OS, haven't been able to update from el capitan OS10.11.6!

The .sh patch will not work alone. Just replace the original file .sh by this one. Or download the full .zip again.

I've got the chance to put my hands on a Mac this morning:
I downloaded the .zip file. It unzipped automatically.
    I opened a Terminal.
I went into the directory the application:
    cd Downloads/LotRO Companion/app
    Launched the script:
    ./LotroCompanion.sh

After some time (this Mac is quite old), it opened the main window. I browsed as much windows as I could (no more game client on this one) and found no issue.

    This is a 13" MacBook Pro (2011) with Sierra 10.12.6, Core i5 2.4GHz with 4Gb memory.

If I tick all the Trait Points I get a total of 96, but I thought the current max was 94. Am I missing 2 somewhere or is this a bug?

The current max is 94. In the delivered version (which matches Update 25.0.2), it is 96. They removed the points for level 125 and 130 in Update 25.0.3.
It will be fixed in the next release.

As I wrote, above, I am not particularly tech savvy. However, I followed these instructions and keep getting the following error message in Terminal:

    Johns-iMac:~ jcs$ cd Downloads/LotRO Companion/app
-bash: cd: Downloads/LotRO: No such file or directory

The entire LotRO Companion folder is correctly located in the User>Downloads folder, and the .sh file is correctly located in the app folder.

    Suggestions?

    Aha, cool.

Excellent tool anyway, all my stats matched the game perfectly when I added all my gear etc, apart from one Softly Moonlit essence which hasn't been added yet.

Hi... No problem. Terminal is for tech men. And spaces in file names are always a bad idea (my fault here).
    Try with quotes:
    cd "Downloads/LotRO Companion/app"
or with backslash to escape the space:
    cd Downloads/LoTRO\ Companion/app

I do autocompletion with "Tab" so probably the \ was added automatically.

    Enjoy.

Thanks. "Softly" was added to the name of existing essences Update 25.1 (and their stats updated too...).
I'm planning to do a "patch" release, mainly for data update. There was a lot of updates in 25.1!

    Hello, Glumglug!

I really very much appreciate your help. I tried the new Terminal commands you suggested, and they do indeed work. Unfortunately... another problem immediately cropped up, viz.:

    Johns-iMac:~ jcs$ cd "Downloads/LotRO Companion/app"
    Johns-iMac:app jcs$ ./LotroCompanion.sh
    -bash: ./LotroCompanion.sh: Permission denied
    Johns-iMac:app jcs$

Now I see that another player also reported the "permission denied" problem, but I'm not clear what the recommended answer was. I did download the .zip file again (I couldn't download from SourceCode, but used their 'direct link' instead), but the problem seems to persist.

Thank you again for your patience, and best wishes for the new year!
