The "anonymous" setting has other effects you might not want-- unless you mean a new type of "anonymous" setting that only hides the character from account-wide friending.

I guess in addition to preferring privacy, there are other issues:

-If you unknowingly friend someone with 150 alts, your friend list becomes so long it's useless. The solution I guess is to list friends by account-name only, but I'm not sure giving out account names is good.

-There's currently no process for consent. Anyone can add you as a friend without you even knowing about it. Account-wide friending lays bare your whole list of characters to anyone who knows any of their names. If you make characters anonymous that sets up some road blocks, but people can still friend that character individually- and still without consent.

That is such a hassle, having to do that because someone I don't associate with or desire to associate with wants to friend me. I like it the way it is right now, I don't have to do a darn thing.

I like this function though.. it have given me an opportunity to figure out what other characters a certain creepy roleplayer on Laurelin has.
By adding the most active roleplayers to my friend list, I can over time observe when the creep character log on/off and when another characters log on/off and what characters that are logged at the same time.
After a few months I managed to narrow it down and got it confirmed by others. Sadly that player has well established characters in two other well known rp kinships.

If we put accounts on ignore, it would make the world harder for troll and creeps, since they would be quickly exposed.
And I guess those who argue against an account ignore, has something to fear perhaps?

I'm in favor of account-wide ignore. I'm not in favor of account-wide friending.

Neither can happen, and the reason is privacy.

Turbine/SSG has decided that knowledge of which characters belong to the same account is private. There are many legitimate reasons (some of them listed above in this thread) why a person would want to hide that information.

Being able to ignore or friend entire accounts would enable people to easily determine which characters are associated with the same account.

Honestly I don't need it- my position is that if they want to find a way to do an account-wide ignore, then that sounds fine. But please no account-wide friending. I guess if they wanted an account-wide ignore they could just auto-block all of the person's alts when you block any one of them, without showing you the extra names- but again it's not something I really need, myself.
