Remove the spaces from in front of the header lines.

  2. #127
This is the header, right? What spaces are you talking about? The spaces right after the colons? ie, X: 1 should be X:1 ?

See below for what I did. It still did not work in game. I did it to both the files with the extensions .abc and .txt

    ORIGINAL HEADER
    X: 1
    T: from Skargand: beethoven 5th (2:34)
Z: Transcribed by LotRO MIDI Player: http://lotro.acasylum.com/midi
    % Original file: beethoven_5th.mid
    % Transpose: -11
    % Tempo factor: 115%
    L: 1/4
    Q: 120
    K: C

    ALTERED HEADER
    X:1
    T:from Skargand: beethoven 5th (2:34)
Z:Transcribed by LotRO MIDI Player: http://lotro.acasylum.com/midi
    %Original file: beethoven_5th.mid
    %Transpose: -11
    %Tempo factor: 115%
    L:1/4
    Q:120
    K:C

    Ah, you misunderstood me.

I meant the spaces at the front of the header lines, not the spaces in them.

Here is the code you pasted above with that done:
    Code:
    X: 1
    T: from Skargand: beethoven 5th (2:34)

    Unhappy

    WBS:

I copied the Beethoven 5th file that you corrected for me. I pasted it in both Wordpad and Notepad. Wordpad rearranged the header again and merged it all into one paragraph. Notepad was better it copied it exactly as you posted it above. I saved both the Wordpad and Notepad versions (at separate times) as Text Documents and did not put any extension (.abc or .txt)on the name before I saved it. Neither worked in game. Then I tried to save in Notepad as an All Files (*.*) document and left off the extension (.abc and .txt) and it still didn't work in game.

I went to this site for the files: http://reissendewoelfe.de/abc/
Then I tried to save it in Wordpad and Notepad as mentioned above.

Am I missing a step somewhere? Why does Greensleeves from this site play for me in game (it plays horribly--it sounds awful and not like the Greensleeves I know and love) and the rest don't play at all?

I type in the tell window /music (enter) or I can select music from my characters image
Then I type /play beethoven_5th (as it is saved) I have tried putting both the .abc and .txt extension in here at different times and it still tells me "Can't open file (gives the path).

I've experimented with some other songs from the site, too, and nothing works.

    Getting Started

The first thing you'll need to do is locate your The Lord of the Rings Online folder. in most cases this will be located in the "My Documents" folder on your PC. There are a couple LOTRO folders floating around on your computer so in order to make sure you're in the CORRECT FOLDER, take a screenshot in-game. If the screenshot was saved to the folder you're looking at, you're in the correct folder, IF NOT, keep looking.

Once you have the correct The Lord of the Rings Online folder and have it open, you need to create a new folder inside it, right there WITH the screenshot. Name this new folder Music. This is where you will be saving your ABC files to. If there is already a Music folder there with the screenshot, dont make another. Open the Music folder. If you already saved files to it you should see them there. But since you say they are not working in game either delete them all or just ignore them.

If you MUST use Wordpad, then,
    1. copy and paste the ABC you want into wordpad.
    2. click "save as" from the file tab.
    3. Click "save as Type" window.
    4. Choose "Text Document"
    5. Type a file name, DO NOT ADD ANY SPACES TO YOUR FILENAME OR ANY FILE EXTENSION, NO .txt or .abc Wordpad (or Notepad) will do that for you.
    6. Don't save yet!
    7. Click the "Save in" window and navigate to your Music folder that you have open.
    8. Now click save.

You should now see this new file in your Music folder that is open. If not you did not save it to the correct folder. Start again and on step 7 make sure the path is the same as your open Music folder. This may confuse some that are not knowledgeable about Windows and opening up folders. Should this be the case I will post another reply explaining this if needed.

If using Notepad all steps are the same except,

    4. Text Document should already be chosen for you, leave it set to that.

Now go in game and try to play it.

    Equip instrument
enter music mode ( I click my avatars portrait and choose play music)
    type /play filename
your file name should be ONLY your filename, ie. /play yesterday (NOT /play yesterday.txt)

    Song should play.

If you still are having trouble, let me know!

    Durinsbane:

In the Quote above, you said this:

What do you mean by this? "Take a screenshot in-game" -- and how do you do that?

As far as I can tell, I am saving the files correctly whether I use Wordpad or Notepad. I do not get anything showing up when I type /playlist and I keep getting the error message in the tell window that shows the path (and it looks like the correct path) and the comment that Song can't be played. I have Windows 8, btw.

At this point I no longer know why you are having issues.

The code I posted above, if copied and pasted into Notepad and saved as a plain text file (.txt), plays in-game for me.

I tried it as it was from the site you linked as well and that also worked.

    WBS:

If you are stumped, I am really stumped! I have never tried doing this before and I am trying real hard to follow all the steps and this is really frustrating for me. It doesn't seem like it should be that difficult to do, and yet I am not having any success. GRRRR!

    Here are some more images.

    In Game

The File itself and me saving it

My search for the location of the Screenshot taken In Game--In an earlier post in this thread, someone suggested loading the beethoven5th.txt file to where the screenshot goes. Does that make any sense? Also someone suggested purchasing a fix for .abc files from a website, but if the game can now take .txt files (which I can't do--so far) that would be a waste of money.

OK. I think I have now identified your issue from the screenshots you posted.

You have your music files in the wrong place.

From the screenshot above the path your files are in is "..\Documents\LOTRO\Music" .

It needs to be "..\Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\Music".

PRAISE Iluvatar (and you too, WBS!)

I had the wrong LOTRO / Lord of the Rings Online!!!!! And funny thing, the .abc files work and the .txt files don't seem to work. I am now playing!

ABC has no sound in this new updated game

Any of the links previous to 2016 do not work. I am having sound problems with the music in abc. Any ideas? I tried everything. I have a window 10 system.
Long ago I was able to play all my songs, nothing!

    Question Hmmmm

I have just started to look into playing music in game, so far its very simple and easy! some files work fine...
however... I have come across my first problem I downloaded an .abc file but it seems to have a problem
in game it says..." problem with abc notation" - Note is not tied to anything. Line 11, column 5.
I have no idea what that means...hidden extensions are showing

Now that I played it, I realise that this answer comes much too late. (Christmas was a couple days ago. ? On the third day of Christmas ?)

That notation is a bit odd. You have several tied notes that should not be tied. (Lines 11, 13 and 15)

The hyphen means the note is held until the end of the next instance of the same note. The one that gave you an error was “d-” because there's not another “d” for it to connect to.

Remove all of the hyphens, except the last one the last line.
